Assignment #2 - What does service mean to me? This is a concept that I have been considering in great detail. I have always loved doing community service and giving back to the community. However, I never thought of what my life would be like without community service. The definition of service based on the Oxford dictionary: "The action of helping or doing work for someone." I agree with this definition of service, the only thing that I would add is that service should be done with no alternative motives. However in many cases, this is not the case, people do service to help them look better or to improve their resume. In my case service means a lot to me because I remember when my community building me into the person I am today. I want to give back to my community because someone helped me. Service to me is giving back to someone else so they can to …show more content…
For like my mom always says if you educate a guy you educate an individual, whereas if you educated a girl she brings the education back to the family. That is I want to do, in under privilege area to slow help the community to become stronger. To take this dream one step farther I hope to start a mentoring organization and scholarship to help girls to go off school. I hope through this program that young women have a role model to see the different fields they can enter into. For not everyone gets to here at home that they can do anything or all the opportunity that is out there in the world. In all, I can say that service learning has helped to shape me into a person that I am today and continues to makes me a better person. Service to me is a way of life and I can't image my life without service. I feel deeply indebted to the people who took the time to help me to grow into the leader I am today. Now I spend my days trying to give back to my community the way someone did for
For my service leaning assignment, I volunteered at the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival in support of the Montgomery County Food Bank receiving donations at the festival entrance. In volunteering at the event, I learned the differences in service learning, volunteerism and community service and will provide details in what I learned a about each. I will also provide details and examples of teamwork, communication and networking experiences gained while at the event. A brief overview of the Montgomery County Food bank will also be provided with information on the assignment task, measurable success and interaction with fellow students and organization directors.
Now lastly service, service can be exemplified by volunteering at places like the community service, helping with races, or volunteering at museums like the Mariners Museum, and the Living Museum. I personally can connect to the service category because you can learn a lot about doing community service and helping others out. It can also give you a new learning experience. But now, I would like to give some advice to the new members. Firstly, always try your best, this may seem like,”Oh everyone tells me this, why is she telling me this?”.
It also enables anybody to have that long-lasting and significant impact on society. Providing volunteer services gives me the opportunity to help someone in need while also advancing my life skills and wisdom. I like participating in community service because it is really fulfilling for anyone who gives back to their community. As I learn how it teaches me compassion and understanding, I also think it's crucial. This is a pillar that I consider to be of utmost importance.
The bulk of my service hours comes from my position as a CIT at Pilgrim Day Camp, which did not qualify as community service. I would like to emphasize that I was not given any money for my work at the camp. I would define community service as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. Being a CIT was completely voluntary, and my work at the camp benefitted the campers and their parents. By being a role model for young children, I positively impacted their lives and guided them through camp activities.
The final way that I feel the pillar of service can be applied to my life would be my willingness to help fellow students with programming dilemmas they may have come across while creating a program. At the studio I attended during my freshman year, I was one of the highest programmers at the time, so I was usually one of the first to test the curriculum as a student. Whenever I had the chance or opportunity, I would always try and help younger students who were struggling at the time. Helping these students learn to do something that I had learned to love and enjoy makes me feel fulfilled and lucky to have been able to serve them as I did on several
Service to me means, giving your all to you school and community without expecting anything in return. At a young age, I participated in many fundraising events with my dance team where we provided a service to others such as annual car washes, waiting tables at various restaurants, and organizing dances and activities for kids. In Junior High I was a key club member and we volunteered for concession stand duties, helped out at elementary basketball tournaments, and acted as line judges or referees at volleyball tournaments. Since my mom is a first grade teacher, I spent many summers setting up and organizing her classroom, and on my days off from school, I provided kids in my mom’s classroom with help in reading or math. As a part of Earth Week at our school, I did various jobs for people in my community.
My experience in the volunteer world has given me the direction to see many views on the world we live in today. I have gone on a week-long mission trip 4 summers in a row and 5 out of the last 6 and it has become
My education provides the foundation for my future. In order to ensure my success, I must also continue to engage in service projects. My involvement in community service with National Honor Society has kindled
For me, from the moment of the election of the Service Learning Project, I didn't like the simple fact of having to “work for free,” and the idea was transformed into a boring activity to do with the mere purpose of completing the project. However, as I started to help at the food pantry, I became aware of how wrong I was and my opinion about the social service changed, I realized how the simple fact of providing support to the most disadvantaged groups of society, was very
Service-learning involves students in a community service activity and applies the experience to personal and academic development. Service learning is more of an educational approach. Connecting real life experiences to classroom objectives. Volunteerism is an activity that involves doing something that you want that benefits the environment or the community without getting paid for it. Community service is doing something that benefits the community most of the time it’s a mandatory order for people to do from the court or school.
Volunteering should be done intrinsically. Many students find community service so difficult, time consuming, and not enjoyable. Therefore, they tend to only complete the required hours without any essential effort. To call mandatory community service 'volunteering ' is a problem because then we begin to confuse the distinction between an activity that is willingly done and something that is obligatory and perhaps not always rewarding. Volunteering should be something you choose to do because you want to do it, not because somebody made you do it.
According to thefreedictionary.com ,“community service” is defined as “services volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a
Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed service learning. It was surprising for me, because I initially expected that I would not like the experience. Being a shy introvert (and kind of socially awkward), I find it hard to connect with new people. I tend to become really nervous whenever I need to interact with strangers. That’s why the idea of talking in front of a class (composed of students I don’t know personally) was really overwhelming for me.
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Community service does not sound appealing to everyone, but at the end of the day, it creates new experiences. Visiting schools is always fun because I get to see younger kids that are having fun and it brings me back memories from my elementary school days. One of my favorite memories was when I went to a carnival that was being held at a school near my home. My job was to run a game in a classroom and help out kids with the game and then reward them. Everyone would earn a prize, regardless of if they scored or not.
