Open periods and open lunches are something almost every underclassmen looks forward to, as only juniors and seniors can benefit from these privileges. This is how T.F. Riggs High School has worked for many years. Open lunch means that students have the ability to leave during their lunch period; an open period means students do not have a class during a certain period and have the option to leave the school during that period. Students can lose their open privileges if they have failing grades at midterm or at the end of the quarter. Underclassmen should have the option to have opens as long as they can keep their grades up. If every student in high school had an open, some might not be able to keep on top of their grades because when students are given the choice to leave school for an hour, most take that chance; therefore, students are not forced to sit in a study hall where they are expected to do homework. When students have the choice to leave, most use the hour to do nonproductive tasks, unlike when they have a study hall and are required to be in a classroom getting their homework done or at least doing something productive. Not being required to have a study hall can negatively effect students who do not have the …show more content…
Having opens might make the days less stressful and give them more free time if they have a job or an activity after school. Also, students may be getting little sleep at night because they have too many responsibilities, such as a job, a school activity, or a lot of homework. Teenagers need nine hours of sleep at minimum, and getting no sleep can take a toll on their bodies. Sleep deprivation can cause mental health issues and problems concentrating. The access to an open period may let them go home and take a short nap, or allow them to go to bed earlier and get their homework done during the open
Majority of the students either agree or just don't care that freshman should be allowed to leave during lunch. From my standpoint the freshman should be able to, I know I did it when i was a freshman. Even when it was against the rules. Most still do. It will not change.
This is in fact not true. Juniors and Seniors with failing grades are forced to stay for study hall each day while there piers are going home. Study hall provides them with the extra time they need to get their work done in order to raise their grades. Juniors and Seniors must continue going to study hall until they have raised their grades .
Should Middle School Start Later In The Day? Many students around the world have school really early in the morning. Every adolescent need at least eight in a half hours of sleep each night. If you are an athlete who gets enough sleep then you would have less of a chance of getting injured.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
In addition to this, students can take care of their own dietary needs. Open campus lunch allows students to take a break from their chaotic or busy school days. Students with the option of open campus lunch can learn life lessons. If you want your students or children to be happier during school hours. Then, open campus lunches can make this happen.
During lunchtime, students generally make their way through the crowded cafeteria to sit with their friends, and enjoy their lunch while being supervised; however, many schools are now authorizing students to have an open campus lunchtime. An open campus allows students to leave school campus unsupervised to have lunch or hang out at a local restaurant or business. Having an open campus is beneficial because it allows students to gain independence, responsibility, trust, the health of students, socialize with friends, and help increase business at local restaurants. Therefore, I believe Arapahoe should continue to have an open campus for the benefit of our students. Having an open campus allows students to leave the school grounds to have lunch outside and be able to socialize with their peers.
But if we were to not have lunch, then we could either get out of school earlier and be able to eat at home, or use that extra period for more class time. We would also be able to eat whatever we want and actually know what is
Like lunchtime that which could be enough time for anyone to have some time to relax and socialize with their friends at school. At any time in which a student can get board and in any given idea of getting outside of school is fun. In any fact that it might not be a good idea, and that spending their free time chilling in school with their comrades. In any fact that their are some students are behind in their classes and have nothing but pure F or D in their grades. In any case of social media and entertainment could also be a good choice for students to have fun time in their school.
Last but not least the fairness to all students especially ones that only meal they get to eat each day is the one they
When a student has an extra day off, they can spend more time focusing on their studies and taking the time to master a concept. To illustrate, Katherine Bradley states in an article for the Seattle Post- Intelligencer that “Oakridge School District Superintendent Don Kordosky reported that test scores improved after his district in Oregon implemented the four-day school week.” In other words, students academically improved after having an extra day off. The four-day school week is beneficial because it allows students to fully grasp the lesson they are learning, and if they are having trouble with a certain lesson, during the weekend they can practice it until they can finally understand the material. This is beneficial in the long run as it will allow students to get a better understanding of the material that is being taught to them, thus leading to higher grades.
So, they can improve the odds of adolescents getting sufficient sleep so they can thrive both physically and academically. I agree with this source, starting schools later could enhance student’s school performance academically and athletically. Starting school too early are preventing many teenagers from getting the sleep they need to start off their day. I aim to using this this source to support my claim as to why students need more sleep and how it would affect them throughout the school day. This will benefit my essay by forward explaining why school should start later in the morning and why doing this will be better for the students’
Open campus at lunch time is a huge advantage for high school students, and is a great punishment as well. The student's responsibility to come back to school on time will have consequences if students don't follow it. This will help them realize that the word is run by rules and if people don't follow them, there will always have consequences. Students will be gaining responsibility for collage and the real world after that. To succeed in life people need independence, maturity, and responsibility.
These things will improve one’s health. In addition to improving one’s health, it is also better for one’s concentration. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
There are 24 hours in a day, 8 of those hours belong to school. From the moment when a student wakes up, they begin to prepare for school then go to school, most schools start around 8:00-9:00 am, so most students get up 1-2 hours earlier to get ready. Students need at least 8-9 hours of sleep to be able to function. With students having after school activities that take up around 2 hours, students are exhausted and when they get home all the want to do is relax, but some of them have responsibilities that they have to do, which gives them less time to relax from a long day of school. On top of having homework students end up staying up late getting all their work done, which cause them to be less focus the next day not allowing the
Stress has become a major issue for high school students. Many students have seven classes, participate in sports, have after school activities, homework, and need to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Some parents and outside influencers don’t see the benefits of having a longer lunch period for high school students. Students complain about how long school is now but they don 't have enough time outside of school to complete everything they are expected to. While it is understandable that some parents wouldn’t want longer lunches because it could result in safety issues and students having to remain in school 30 minutes longer than the traditional time, longer lunches would give students a chance to complete homework, get help from teachers, and eat a nutritious meal.
