Alan Turing (Alan Mathison Turing) was born on June 23, 1912, in Maida Vale, London, England, and died June 7, 1954 in Wilmslow, Cheshire. (“Alan Turing Biography”) Even as a child he showed signs of very high intelligence that some of his teachers recognized, but not all of them respected it. (“Alan Turing Biography”) When Turing attended an independent Sherborne School that was well known at the age of 13, he realized his interests in both math and science. (“Alan Turing Biography”) After Sherborne, Turing enrolled at the University of Cambridge, or King’s college, in Cambridge, England, learning there from 1931-1934. (“Alan Turing Biography”) As a result of his dissertation, which is a long essay on a particular subject, he proved the central limit theorem. (“Alan Turing Biography”) After this he was elected a fellow at the school when he graduated. (“Alan Turing Biography”) 1n 1936, Turing wrote a paper, “On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem,” that presented the idea of a universal machine that would later be called the “Universal Turing Machine,” and after that the …show more content…
(“Alan Turing Biography”) Turing first addressed the problem of artificial intelligence in his 1950 paper, “Computing machinery and intelligence,” and presented an experiment known as the “Turing Test.” (“Alan Turing Biography”) The Turing Test was an effort to create an intelligence design standard for the tech industry. (“Alan Turing Biography”) The test has significantly influenced debates over artificial intelligence over the past several decades. (“Alan Turing Biography”) In the last seventy-five percent of a century, the Turing machine model has been proven to be of priceless value for the development of the science of data processing.
