The third Republican Debate is now in the books, after the top 10 leading GOP candidates debated for more than two hours. There are now less than 100 days until the first ballots are cast. This debate was a very important for many of the candidates campaigns because they are now approaching the “make-or-break point” of their campaigns (Diamond). Only a few candidates rose to the occasion and gave a strong performance that could boost their standings in the polls. Other candidates did not leave very happy from the debate. Among the winners was Marco Rubio. Rubio proved Wednesday night that he is ready to be President of the United States. The debate started off with Rubio being criticized for his “low voting attendance record in Senate” (Diamond). Rubio returned with a polite attack. Rubio said, "The only reason why you 're doing it now is because we 're running for the same position, and someone has convinced you that attacking me is going to help you. I 'm not running against Governor Bush, I 'm not running against anyone on this stage. I 'm running for president." …show more content…
The conservative did what he does best on Wednesday. He chose the best moment to respond as he “patiently waited his turn” (Diamond). When he fired back, he “brought the crowd to raucous applause” (Diamond). As the audience roared, Cruz said "The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don 't trust the media." Rubio brought the following question up during the debate that excited the audience even more, "This is not a cage match, and you look at the questions: 'Donald Trump are you a comic book villain? Ben Carson can you do math? John Kasich will you insult two people over here? Marco Rubio why don 't you resign? Jeb Bush why have your numbers fallen? ' How about talking about the substantive issues people
Nicholas Kristof’s “3 Peerless Republicans for President: Trump, Carson and Fiorina”, deems the leading candidates from the Grand Old Party unfit for presidency, and the public’s fixation with them a temporary affair. Multiple previous controversies being detailed, and the use notably bleak statistics help undermine the contenders while urging voters to look elsewhere. Kristof utilizes harsh diction with a simple, yet critical tone to denounce the trio, and further his own
In this healthcare debate Ted Cruz was pretty clear with his answers for the questions he was asked. On the other hand Bernie Sander seemed to be not very knowledgeable about certain topics and repeated himself multiple times during the debate. Ted Cruz won this debate because he actually answered all the questions with factual information so that the audience understood his answer clearly. Another factor that helped Cruz in this debate was his wide range of information, facts, and statistics for each of the topics brought up in the debate.
“My purpose is to be president,” Kasich responded. “And those who are wondering about Donald Trump, if I go head to head with him in Ohio, I beat him by 18 points. I intend to go all the way, I intend to be the nominee, and I intend to beat Hillary Clinton by more than 11 points.” Kelly pressed on to question Kasich’s candidacy asking if he stealing votes from candidates that had a better chance of beating Trump. “I’m not sure who those people are but people counted me out, they said you know, he will never get to New Hampshire and we went to New Hampshire and we finished second,” Kasich said.
Extra Credit: CNBC GOP Presidential Debate CNBC’s GOP Presidential Debate this year was held at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the moderators focused their questions greatly on the economy, current national budget, tax reforms, immigration policies and their disagreements with the Democratic party. The Republican candidates that participated in this debate included Ohio governor John Kasich, former governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, Florida senator Marco Rubio, business man Donald Trump, retired surgeon Ben Carson, former HP CEO Carly Fiorina, Texas senator Ted Cruz, New Jersey governor Chris Christie, and Kentucky senator Rand Paul. With tensions growing between candidates and political parties, I feel that the moderators for this debate seemed to personally attack the candidates when questioning their reasoning behind their answers.
Presidential election brings a lot of attention to candidates running for the office and public is listening and watching every move they are making. Public is also analyzing their thought process. News and media is analyzing their moves and trying to break it down for public. This year’s presidential election is nothing less and candidates have been under fire. San Jose Editorial group is also breaking down stands of this year’s candidates.
Presidential candidates should answer how they truly feel and what they know about a topic instead of dodging or attacking the question like an ex-girlfriend. We Americans put our faith in the president to keep the country flourishing, safe, and great. In this democratic debate, Hillary Clinton used the red herring fallacy and the ad hominem fallacy. In the end, everyone can see right through her answers. All that people have to do is pay attention to how she answered these questions and they would be able to understand they are
Former Texas Governor and two-time Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry came out of hiding after suspending his campaign to speak at Value Voter Summit Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C. Speaking as a non-presidential candidate, Perry called on all conservatives to stand by a candidate that wouldn’t divide the party. Without mentioning names, Perry renewed the rivalry against the Republican front-runner Donald Trump. During his brief run, Perry would tried to take on Trump, but that led to his poll numbers dropping, which ultimately led to Perry being the very first candidate to bow out the race earlier this month. “We see in our politics today a lot of agitation,” Perry said to the 2,500 social conservative attendees on Friday,
Rubio in New Hampshire With Iowa and New Hampshire voting draw near, Florida Senator Marco Rubio is focusing his message on being the only candidate running who can relate to everyday people. “It is not enough to simply nominate someone who is upset and angry about the direction of our country,” Rubio said adding it is not enough just to tap into the anger and frustration like the current front-runners Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are doing in the campaign trail. Without mentioning his rivals Trump or Cruz, Rubio pointed out that voters cannot just “elect any Republican.” Making several stops across New Hampshire on Friday, Rubio shared his plan for a New American Century in his last stop in Merrimack, NH, before he takes off to Iowa for the last week making numerous campaign stops as well as partaking in the last debate before the Iowa caucus
The Democratic Debate on Tuesday, October 13 was set to be a great Las Vegas show. It was doubtful that this debate would be anywhere near as fun to watch as the Republican debate with it’s over the top characters Trump, Fiorina, Christie and Bush but it did give an important idea where these particular candidates stand on issues that worry the everyday American. Anderson Cooper introduced the candidates as they took the stage - Chafee, O’Malley, Clinton, Sanders, and Webb. As the candidates introduced themselves and Cooper starts the debate with an awesome question to Clinton, “Will you say anything to get elected?” Clinton explains that any changes in her positions have more to do with learning more about the issues and that as a progressive candidate she likes to get things done.
Jordan started her speech by saying, “Now that I have this grand distinction, what in the world am I supposed to say? I could easily spend this time praising the accomplishments of this party and attacking the Republicans -- but I don't choose to do that”(Jordan 5). This creates a sense of trust, which develops ethos. She also has no bias in her speech,”Even as I stand here and admit that we have made mistakes…”(Jordan 14). This rebuttal demonstrates how she tries to convince the crowd that her argument is not
Further, the candidates have also been selected because of their apparent strategic differences, specifically as displayed during the opening two GOP presidential debates. In the opening debates, Rubio appeared aggressive, desperate to separate himself from a saturated GOP field; on the other hand Huckabee appeared reserved, eschewing conflict and attacks even when opportunities to do so presented themselves. The candidates debate performances, when juxtaposed, suggests that they are employing different strategies, which is likely to be manifested in the candidates’ online communications, among other
The Iowa Caucuses can majorly affect politics. The first look of what candidates, real Americans are backing plays a major role in how the rest of America sees the candidates. The media attention Iowa gets also influences the rest of America. After the 2016 Iowa Caucuses the tops candidates are now what names are shown in news articles to catch people’s attention, since those candidates are now seen as the leaders even though it is still early in the election (Clark, 2007; Andrews, Bloch…, 2016; Collinson, 2016; Naft,
On September 26,2016 the first presidential debate commences between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. One of the topics that was extensively debated on was the Criminal Justice system and the issue of systemic racism in this country. Donald Trump took the stance of Law and Order in order to solve the issue that are prevalent in our society today. In contrast, Hillary Clinton approach was one of Criminal Justice Reform. By analyzing the candidate’s responses in relation to outside reliable sources we can the verify which running mate is truthful.
First the Republicans write legislation singling out one specific group, educators, to silence. Now they change the rules to limit debate and questions in the House! What are the Republicans afraid of? Is their creditability and integrity so questionable that they feel compelled to silence all potential opposition? But, maybe it is not opposition they fear, but reason!
The debate between The Democratic versus The Republicans was interesting because they went in depth about the main issues happening around the country. The first topic in which they were discussing about was the American military spending. The Democratic talked about that America has to cut their military budget because they are spending almost 500 billion dollars. They were arguing that the U.S military needs to cut the budget because we were spending so much more than China and Russia combine.
