believe a possible theme would be to always be prepared. Throughout the book, we can see that Columbine was completely unprepared. They did not have a set plan of what to do so students and teachers were running around panicking. This is one of the reasons that there were so many casualties. The author often says that Columbine was not prepared for this. b.) Eric Harris was about the average height and skinny. He had a clean cut, short military hair style. His face was pointed and long. Eric’s mental state would best be described as insane. He suffered from depression and was fascinated by Nazi terrorism. Doctors have concluded that Eric was mentally ill. c.) To me, this was difficult to read at some points. For example, in some parts it was extremely …show more content…
d.) I do not think this book glorifies Eric and Dylan. It may seem that it is by detailing all the work they put into it, but the author does that to portray how dedicated they were to doing something so awful. The author does a great job of portraying the awfulness and brutality of the shootings. All the chapters following the shootings really show how it drastically affected the students of Columbine and so many others. These chapters will hopefully cause anyone who is contemplating this idea of mass murder to think twice about it. e.) I do think the author does an effective job of characterizing them as typical teenagers. Had I not seen the video before I read the book, I would assume that they were normal teenagers. I think this makes it very confusing to why they committed this awful crime. At the beginning of the book, the author describes Eric as a ladies man who could get any lady he pursued, and Dylan got a date to prom with his crush. The reader could ultimately assume that they were normal teenagers that didn’t have any serious problems. That is why it’s so confusing to why they did what they
Kristina and Trey gathered all of their little belongings mostly caring about the lockbox containing about $3,600 of the finest mexican glass a.k.a meth. Rushing out of their little apartment as soon as possible after seeing a wanted picture in the newspaper of kristina stealing money illegally with a fake id. She thought it was odd that she had very very little remorse about getting up and leaving without saying goodbye to her baby that wouldn't even recognize her, her mom which she stole her identity and money from. It didn't phase her and she kept loading what little belongings she had into Trey's mustang. They rushed onto the snowy freeway still tweaked as usual, but exhausted from no sleep like usual and running from the police and the mexican drug lord that they owe and weren't planning on paying back.
Mark Ames examines the social climates of Reaganomics and Clinton's Columbine. Creating a convincing argument by comparing workplace and school massacres as modern day slave rebellions. Like “Going Postal,” slave rebellions are also tremendously misunderstood in the way the media portrays it to the viewers vs. the real event.
Theme 1.1: Envy. In Knowles’s coming of age book, “A Separate Peace”, there are lots of mishaps that happen and the beginning of these mishaps is when one of his main characters, Gene, starts thinking malicious things about Phineas, his friend. It started out as a small inkling of envy, suddenly later on in the book, it turned into something that resembled a fractious disaster. As the chapters progress, Gene shows the readers his way of thinking towards Phineas, by describing his “unexpected excitement” (27) when Phineas was about to receive a scolding from Mr. Patch-Wither, the substitute headmaster of Devon during the summer session. Surprisingly, when Phineas (aka Finny) further explained why he wore the school tie as a belt,
“Two ruthless killers picking off students indiscriminately”(Cullen 149) was Dave Cullen’s words agreeing with the Rocky Mountain News article about the tragic shooting. The media treatment and Dave Cullen’s treatment showed a clear contrast between what both of them thought about the killers. Through out the book he expresses many times that everybody had came to many conclusions with the right facts but the wrong answer. It was clear through the diction of the book that the words goth, TCM( Trench coat mafia), or just the word misfit were not able to fit Eric and Dylan. Eric and Dylan were “misfit geniuses” or so he took from the Eric’s journal talking about The Pastures of Heaven.
Michael walked up to the door and knocked tree times. He nervously pulled down his arm sleeve. Charlie answered the door in his pajamas. “I was wondering, you know under the circumstances, if I could crash at you place” Michael asked shifting from one foot to the other. Charlie sighed and opened the door wider to allow his brother to slip past into the apartment.
Yash Patel Mrs. Choi AP Literature October 2015 1984 Dialectal Journals for Part 2 Text Response 1. “In front of him was an enemy who was trying to kill him; in front of him, also was a human creature… He had indistinctively started forward to help her,” (Orwell 106) This quote shows that even in this time where they live in a life where they are being manipulated, Winston is still living in a time where he is experiencing hatred, but still maintains what keeps him normal or humane, which keeps him separated from everyone else. This hate is showing that people still have hate for each other and still want to kill each other but it also shows the true human he is by helping her when she was threatened.
The very first page of this book we are presented with a letter from Alex, who is obviously leaving home. The letter I believed was a really cool way to give us the background of the story we needed to know on a personal level. This was our first look at Alex. He seems excited to be out in the Alaskan bush. Not too many people would be excited about that.
I believe the biggest misconception I had about school shooters is their feelings, or what I assumed is a lack of. What I have learned about the feelings of school shooters is that there is typically a guiding factor or initial issue that festers in someone. Said issue causes this person or group of people to act out. From what I have observed, these students typically have the brightest futures yet remain the most misunderstood of all students. Most of these students who carry out shootings killing themselves in the end, giving them a lifetime worth of attention they were clearly seeking without any repercussions for their actions.
The passage opens with an examination of Eric’s thoughts in the months before Columbine happened, which can be viewed from numerous passages Eric left behind in his journals. Eric continuously talks about how he will need to suppress his emotions in order to be able to go through with the attack. Cullen is quick to use pathos in order to get readers involved with Eric’s emotions, or lack of, at that time. He takes readers on a journey into Eric's mind as he displays some of the most apathetic lines Eric ever wrote. Cullen points out that “It was a mark of Eric’s ruthlessness that he comprehended the pain and consciously fought the urge to spare it” (276).
Even the prosecuting attorney for his case stated, “I don’t doubt for a second, never have doubted, that had he not been caught, Eric Smith would have killed again,” (When Children Kill By: Diane Kratz Feb 11, 2013 Aside) According to Phil Chalmers, a teen violence and youth culture expert, there are usually specific reasons why teens kill. They include being bullied at school, depression, lack of guidance or discipline and even mental illness are just to name a few. (Inside The Mind Of a Teen Killer; 2009 Nelson, Phil Chalmers). Eric Smith appeared to have many of those
“Tell me all about it.” I gripped the phone so hard my hand hurt. “Tell me everything about Prague.” “Oh, Jennie, it’s incredible. So beautiful.

The Characterization of Cole Matthews Appearance is one way that a writer shows what a character is like. It’s the features a character has that tells something about them. It’s important because a character’s appearance can give the reader clues about what they’re like. When I pictured Cole Matthews, I imagined him to be tall, have green eyes, and brunette hair that was put into a quiff.
Watching the film we observe, questioning whether their motive, the absolute cause of their horrific actions,
