In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee wants to show courage in her characters in the story. Atticus (the father) wants to show his son Jem what courage is. He states in page 149 line 8-10 “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand”.
