Improving the Dietary and Physical Habits of America America stands as one of the world’s leading consumers in the fast-food industry; they also hold the title for one of the most obese countries as well. Over the years obesity has emerged as a critical health crisis for the United States, gaining the attention of many with minimal execution. Doctors with the American Medical Association have declared obesity to be an epidemic disease. Throughout the past 30 years, poor diet and lack of physical activity have contributed to the death of millions. The goal of executing a healthy lifestyle serves to minimize the risk of heart disease and instill healthful diets that maintain healthy body mass, in avoiding obesity. What is obesity? Depression can be very detrimental to a child because they are so vulnerable and susceptible to bullying in school. According to Benna Crawford from www.livestrong.com, exercising reduces anxiety and depression all the while strengthening one’s muscles and building self-esteem. Creating a support system is very important in achieving weight loss goals; everyone needs to be held accountable. The Truth of Obesity Fast food has been around for decades and it is an industry which will continue to grow, it is because of this main reason why so many Americans are now obese. Along with the lack of education and knowledge that many Americans are decrease their life span. However, obesity has never been such a vast problem as it stands today with its large population of uneducated and fast food hungry Americans. With this massive epidemic that is taking over America, comes many health issues and its targets begin with the children who become addicted to unhealthy but satisfying meals suffering from overweight, high cholesterol, and blood pressure to name a few.
OBESITY: Overweight and Obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat throughout the body that may affect health. While it could lead to other diseases it can also impact mental health, as well as social and economic engagement. Overweight and obesity affects many Australians. It starts in the early years and increases with age.
The high obese population can be explained by culture, portion sizes, food companies and restaurant policies, diets, and traditions. Obesity is not only an individual issue; it is most importantly a national matter. It raises both individual and collective problems related to economic and demographic dynamics. Therefore, based on the alarming rate obesity is growing, it is crucial at this point to find a solution in order to slow down and hopefully stop this epidemic. Comparing diets of different countries and taking a look at the background story of American nutrition and regimes, it is clear that the American diet is very different from other nationalities and has worsened over the decades.

Obesity Epidemic in America Americans in the United States are gaining more weight at a rapid pace which eventually leads to a high chance of becoming or being obese. The World Health Organization defines obesity as the “abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health”. (WHO, 2012). This trend dramatic has become known as the obesity epidemic as it continues to sweep the states. Centers of Disease Control conducted studies and results showed that since 1980, one third of our adult population has become overweight.
Over the past century, America portion sizes and waistlines have grown exponentially. In 1975 the largest soft drink size was seven ounces, today a child’s size is 12 ounces. Also in the seventies high fructose corn syrup was invented and became a common ingredient in fast foods. Technology has contributed to our laziness and the ease of not leaving your couch to order more food. Obesity is a big problem caused by portion sizes, processed food and sugars, and technology.
Obesity is an ever-growing epidemic in the United States. Weights have been rising in the United States throughout the twentieth century, but the rise in obesity since 1980 is fundamentally different from past changes. (Cutler, Glaeser and Shapiro) Though it is not entirely clear what is to blame many scientists and researchers have a theory. The rise of obesity in the U.S. can be contributed to high priced fruits and vegetables, low costing processed foods, widespread increase in poverty, and a sedentary lifestyle.
Obesity is a medical condition that affects much of the global population. This medical condition can bring about other medical problems and issues if not treated properly. Obesity is a complex condition with many risk factors that can cause a person to develop the condition. These risk factors are environment, genetics, sleep, etc. Obesity can bring about serious health issues such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and mental health problems.
There are various defects displayed by our bodies that are linked with obesity. Such health conditions include heart diseases, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, huge unhealthy cholesterol content in our system, asthma, sleep apnea, gallstones, kidney stones, infertility and even cancerous tumors. Discrimination among the social class is also evident among those with obesity conditions. It affects one emotionally since one becomes subject to lower wages, lower quality of life and likelihood of depression. Obesity has a great effect in the community in that it hampers with the economy, national productivity and even national defense.
Obesity is an epidemic in the United States that has risen steadily over the last 30 years. Obesity effects all populations in the US, from young and old to people with disabilities. . For children and adolescents age 2 to 19 years, obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) at or above the 95th percentile of the sex-specific CDC BMI-for-age growth charts. For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years, the prevalence of obesity has remained fairly stable at about 17% and affects about 12.7 million children and adolescents for the past decade. On the other hand, more than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese.
Obesity has gained a lot of attention in the recent years especially in the 21st century. Right now in America, there is an ongoing epidemic. The cause is not by viruses or bacteria, but by human nature. There is no one way to solve this serious problem. With growing body sizes and serious medical problems associated with obesity, it is a problem that needs to be addressed and changed.
Obesity is a major problem in the United States, and with all the special privileges given to its people, America has become very lazy. With portion sizes rising and physical activity decreasing, it is easy to see how the rates on obesity has risen over the years in America. Obesity is a major problem that needs to be resolved because it affects all people of every gender, age, and race are at risk of being obese.
