He originally fought for Britain, but decided to fight for a free country with the Americans. In the document, “First annual address to congress January 8th, 1790,” Washington talks about how keeping peace in the colones is the best way to fight the war and keep the country together. Washington said, “To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace” (First annual address to Congress, January 8, 1790). George Washington was taking control of the war, trying to do anything to prevent havoc and keep the country together during the war. Without being prepared, the country could have been destroyed and crumbled, so being prepared created a sense of peace. If Washington didn’t fight with the Americans for freedom, we could still be apart of the British Empire and America would be different countries or territories, like the French and Mexican territories. Another possibility could have been that someone else other than Washington could have raised up and lived his legacy. After the war was successful, George Washington helped America build systems and create order in the …show more content…
George Washington spent his time after the war building a government and creating new systems to construct a stronger government. In “George Washington: On the Lack of National Spirit Letter (1778),” he explains how he sacrificed his life to build a country the next generations could grow up in. Washington states, “By a man who is daily injuring his private estate without even the smallest earthly advantage not common to all in case of a favorable issue to the dispute; by one who wishes the prosperity of America most devoutly and sees or thinks he sees it on the brink of ruin” ("George Washington: On the Lack of a National Spirit Letter (1778)"). Washington thrown any advantages he could have gotten to make sure the country was a safe and free place to come to. Washington had given up his life for the benefit of others who needed a place to live safe in harmony. Without Washington's work on our country we wouldn't have freedom or a country that feels safe to live in. We would be living under the same conditions as Britain and wouldn't have anywhere else to go after coming to America as a colony. After building our country, George Washington went on to build his legacy and influence America to
Washington wanted to protect his reputation, he worried about it often. He had high expectations to live up to and he didn’t want to disappoint his people. Although, many people at the time were quite disappointed after they talked with him because he didn’t have a lot to say and he wasn’t considered an “intellectual” (33). But what he lacked he made up for in the way he executed his decisions. Washington was a superb military leader being the commander in chief.

There are a plethora of major contributions George Washington has made to this country that have been discussed throughout this class. His contributions range from military to politics and far beyond. Not only did George Washington have a tremendous effect on the lives of Americans during his time but he also has shaped the history of this country forever. His impact has shaped the political system as well as other areas and his ideas and contributions are still upheld today. The three main reasons I believe George Washington has made a significant contribution to history are he was a leader in the American revolution, he helped write the united states constitution, also he was the first president of the united states and made many political contributions to this country.
George Washington is said to have fought through the worst of the worst encounters in wars. “I now exist and appear in the land of the living by miraculous care of Providence, that protected me beyond all human exception; I had 4 bullets through my coats, two horses shot under me, and just escaped unhurt.” George Washington (158). His humble ways also paved a way to the American people, as he never forgot for whom he was fighting for the cause. “George Washington's action as a leader in wartime demonstrated the morals and practical truths on which these nation was founded.”
When the country called upon him, unanimously electing him to the presidency, he stated: ”’ My movements to the chair of government, will be accompanied by feelings not unlike those of a culprit, who is going to the place of his execution, embarking the voice of the people, and a good name of my own, on this voyage; but what returns will be made for them, Heaven alone can foretell’" (Ibid., XI, 379-80). Although he didn’t want to lead this country, Washington understood the country needed a strong leader, like him. Given his military background, he wanted to unify the country under one strong leader.
Why George Washington is the Best American influential figure Though there are many people who could be considered America’s most influential figure, George Washington is the best American figure because of how he influenced America socially, economically, and politically. One of the biggest ways he socially influenced America was when he established November 26th as the official day for Thanksgiving. signed a copyright law that protected the copyright of authors. Then, right before George Washington passed away, he became opposed to slavery, though he owned around 300 slaves.
During the Revolutionary War, America was in turmoil, for debts needed to be paid and individuals did not have homes. After accepting office, Washington vowed to stay neutral, so that the nation would not become involved in hostility. In other words, he wished to create peace throughout the states, and therefore issued a state of neutrality throughout America. Neutrality would hinder the formation of disagreements with other nations and/or disputes between citizens. Expanding upon that, Washington warned his fellow citizens of forming permanent alliances, as that would only bring trouble to the country that thrived on peace and tranquility.
George Washington Outline (April 30, 1789 – March 4, 1797) 1) Judiciary Act - (1789) This act created the basis for the modern day judicial system. It is still very critical to the government today.
George Washington served as a blueprint for the coming presidents. George Washington was born in 1732 in Virginia and died 1799. Washington grew up in Virginia, at a time when it was a royal colony with the British monarch as the head of government by nobility and an economy based on growing and exporting tobacco. He became a surveyor but soon turned to the military as a way to realize his ambition. As a soldier he demonstrated enough courage and willpower to become the commander of the Virginia troops that garrisoned the state's western frontier during the French and Indian War.
Jared Nielsen Constitution Final George Washington George Washington was the first President of the United States of America. He was a great leader and he had a firm belief that the United States must insist on its national identity, strength, and dignity. His object, he wrote, was to keep the country “free from political connections with every other country, to see them independent of all, and under the influence of none.” According to Stephen Knott a professor at the U.S. Naval War College, Lawrence, George's beloved half-brother and mentor, had commanded a local militia in the area near the Washington family home.
He also knew he needed to build good relations with the other people occupying America, starting with treaty negotiations with Creek Nation, he paid the Native Americans for the land and they moved to federally protected land. Even Though some opposed Washington choice to start trade with Britain it was another important move on his part because it got us the items we needed and helped us cut ties with France. He made many strategic moves he made to keep America going in such a vulnerable
Washington was a thorough disciplinarian and emphasized a lot on training. He charged with his troops against Indians in the west and in a time span of just ten months his troop had fought twenty battles and lost a third of the men, as put by Ellis “it was his unqualified success” in the war (Ellis p.38). Though Washington never got commissioned in British Army yet he had closely observed British military tactics this led him to gain keen insights into military strategy and strengths and weaknesses of the British Army and this proved as a decisive and invaluable resource during the Revolution. Washington was tough, courageous and had a commanding presence which made him appear to be a natural leader to the troops and they followed him without any questions (Ellis p.
Out of the three that are listed here I think that his part in the American Revolution was the most important. Without him we wouldn’t have a leader, nor would we have continued to fight on. This was the first step to our new nation and without him we would have given up/still be under British rule. People like Washington have given people a voice and has motivated them throughout the years. He had kept our hopes up whenever we felt the need to give up and because of his role/actions we are our own
