The Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit organization that focuses on informing and educating the public on various health topics such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Mayo Clinic’s website includes a reference section and reliable top-level domain, thus satisfying the accuracy criterion. Of all the criteria, accuracy is one of the most important in evaluating a site’s worth. Accuracy is similar to the quality of the content on the website (“Evaluating Information Resources,” 2018). If the information on a website contains only incorrect data, people will not rely on it. To determine if a website’s data is correct, one can search for parenthetical citations or a reference section at the end of the web page; from there, one can verify the sources judging off the fact if the information from one source supports another. While Jennifer Chinn defines authority as the criterion that “refers to how correct the website or document is” (Writing with Purpose, 2015, para. 12), it also refers to the author’s qualifications. At the end of Mayo Clinic’s ADHD web page, there is a hyperlink on the authors, the Mayo Clinic Staff. Once one clicks on the link, there is a brief introduction about the different producing, writing, and revising teams. The writing team consists of a team of scientists and medical professionals. Most of whom obtained his/her MD and/or Ph.D. By including experts and professionals in the writing and editing teams, Mayo Clinic builds credibility on its site and furthermore information contained on said site. Another determining factor for authority is the reachability of the author if the web page includes the author’s contact information. The site presents the authority criterion via a “Contact Us” option. Rather than being about the authors of the web pages, the contact information refers to a list of the individual Mayo Clinic locations. If a website did not completely understand what it was writing about, it would not include its contact information because then if readers are confused about the content, he/she could reach out to the author and ask questions. Therefore, because Mayo Clinic writers are knowledgeable about the different health topics and can answer questions thrown at them, it

When one contemplates the credibility of the CDC, it is important to know who they are and where they come from. The CDC operates under the oversight of the HSS, as stated earlier. Guttman, Boccher-Lattimore, & Salmon (1998) found that the CDC, along with the Surgeon General, maintains a higher credibility rating than state-run and funded entities. It is also stated that, “Source credibility is a cornerstone of any successful information campaign” (Guttman et al., 1998, para. 4). When one accounts for these statements, the importance of credibility, as well as the credibility that the CDC has, one can view the CDC’s document as supporting the presence of ethos.
Medical documents for example write policies and procedures based on evidence based practice leading to credibility of the
If a person needs to know about certain medical conditions and cannot afford to go to a physician, he or she may go to a governmental website and receive mostly accurate information. In fact, Rehman states that “government websites and websites of national organizations (as identified by URL ending in .org) had the highest level of accuracy (80.9% and 72.5%, respectively)”. Therefore, if internet users rely on government websites there will be a lower chance of getting the wrong facts. This is a great advantage to people who lack health insurance or live in rural areas.

The technological advancements have not only helped nurses to be better informed, but have also helped the clients to be better informed. Informed patients and families can help the nurses and HCPs by speaking up about symptoms they have noticed that the health care team may have been unable to witness or may have look past. Technology being available to everyone is mostly a good luxury, at the same time, many people can be misinformed and cause more trouble demanding treatments or care that are unsuitable for them because they read about it online. 3.
