Howard University, one of the top best HBCUs in the nation. Although it is an HBCU, historically black college or university, it is one of the best culturally diverse institutions in the world. With people coming to this college from many places such as: Asia, Africa, India and even many of the Caribbean islands. All with goals in mind, to receive one of the top educations in the nation, graduate, and succeed in life. Howard University has a lot to offer from a variety of majors, to many division 1 sports programs. It contains activities such as basketball, track and field, soccer, football and more. Then again the mission of this college is to serve and educate black communities. However, they have more missions because they also serve and educate ethnic diversity in the faculty at Howard. Diversity of people comes to this HBCU to gain the knowledge they want to learn in whatever specific subject they are interested in. Also, the diversity of people come to this HBCU to graduate so they can receive they’re degrees in the fields of choice. This division of sports program contains basketball, track and field, soccer, football and more. This HBCU has many victories and accomplished many milestones for sports at Howard University. Howard University basketball team at Howard University won the NIRSA Championship about 2 years ago for the Basketball club. It was a big accomplishment for Howard University which made a milestone. In the football sports program, Howard University was undefeated in the year of 1993. They’re record was 11-0 and they was ranked first in the nation. In the sports program of track and field, they put in an impressive performance every year they compete against other colleges throughout the nation. Howard University soccer team succeeded in many things. Howard soccer team had an impressive long record. The soccer team reunited Howard University in tumultuous time by winning the NCAA championship in the year of 1974. However, Howard didn’t just want to win the NCAA championship title, they wanted more than that.

When high school students have to make a choice about which university to attend, many colleges may come to mind. Some students prefer to attend a college in their home state. One university Texas A&M attracts thousands of students a year. Because of its rich history, traditions, and how it has evolved throughout the years, Texas A&M will be the only choice to consider for many students.
During Colonial Era, there were nine founding colleges: Harvard, William and Mary, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth, Rutgers, and Pennsylvania. All nine colleges existed in the British colonies. The colleges were established mainly for theological, social and political purposes. They mirrored Oxford and Cambridge schools, which was the collegiate system of higher education. This system mixed both student learning and living experiences.
Fresh new high school seniors are ready to embark on the journey of choosing of a college to attend. These students are filled with fear of choosing the right one or else their lives "will be ruined forever". Of that number combined 78% are African American, 12% Caucasian, 1.8% Hispanic; 1.2% Asian. In 2014 81% of students were African-American while Caucasians were 6%. So from 2014 to 2015 in one year it has grown 6% in Whites to attend this institution. What I can expect from looking at the other years growths in numbers and predict, is that it will continue to increase in diversity of other races as well. The level of education at both can be summed up with the idea that, “Howard is the Harvard for HBCUs.” Both have IVY League Schools, HBCU Ivy League schools consist of Howard University, Spelman College, Fisk University, Morehouse College, and Tuskegee University. PWI Ivy League schools consist of Yale Uuniversity, Harvard University, and Princeton University. At both HBCU and PWI, there Ivy league schools provide a more rigorous college experience, gifting students with an experience and opportunity to learn at a higher level. The experiences at each college areis the same for each race.

We put out a terrible routine however you would've never guessed by our fans reactions. It was such an amazing feeling seeing our fans still go crazy and supporting us even at our worst. Columbia athletics has really made an impact on my life. Without sports, I would be a completely different person. Thanks to Columbia I have grown as an individual.

Students attend college to broaden their knowledge in an environment dedicated to education and research. There are hundreds of colleges and universities around the country that provide great programs to strengthen one’s education. Choosing a college is found to be extremely difficult, considering it is the first step of adulthood and forming a career.
While I was searching for the college I wanted to begin the next part of my life in, I decided I wanted to attend an HBCU that was in a large city. Not only does Howard University fulfill both of these, but Howard also has all of my passions and interests in and outside of the classroom. I am interested in pursuing a Sociology degree within The College of Arts and Sciences. I want to organize my studies with a focus around the black community and urban development. The required and elective courses such as Problems in the Black Community within Howard’s Sociology curriculum will allow me to shape my classes to do this.
