The people of Kaivotopolis have decided to secede from the United States of America because they feel their rights as citizens are not being met. Overwhelming governmental control and police brutality have led citizens to believe that the leaders do not, and probably will never have their best interests in mind. In today 's changing world, a society must be willing to evolve, not have guidelines set in stone for over 200 years regardless of the people 's pleas for change. The people of Kaivotopolis believe a meritocratic, innovation-driven society with a strong education system is an overall better society than the United States. Kaivotopolis 's government will have much less control over every aspect of life and be open to the people 's …show more content…
A meritocracy is a form of government in which people are elected into office and given specific jobs based on their abilities. In Kaivotopolis, governmental jobs are broken into three main committees: political leaders, justice (or the jury), and law enforcement. People are elected to fill these committees in processes similar to China 's Imperial Examination System as outlined in the web page "Political Meritocracy Is A Good Thing (Part 1): The Case of China." These exams intensely test candidates on material in their prospective fields and bring up specific court cases where candidates must give their own ruling as if they were judging the case themselves. Only those with answers deemed satisfactory will proceed to the next phase of election- receiving public approval. The candidate must give a speech to the people, proving his or her qualifications for the job, and then be voted into office by using the "majority rules" way of voting from the American …show more content…
In dystopian novels like Divergent and The Hunger Games, characters fought through severe governmental control and discrimination to take back their freedoms. The people of Kaivotopolis have come to a much simpler and less bloody solution to end their displeasure with the current United States of America. Rather than cause war and endanger thousands of lives, they have severed their ties with the US and have formed a new republic. Kaivotopolis is a meritocratic, innovation driven society that allows its citizens to have a major part in both government and education decisions. Its citizens believe this is a superior society compared to their current one because the leaders are implementing strategies used by the world 's top countries that have been proven the most effective. Overall, the founders of Kaivotopolis believe they will be much happier in this new republic and hope one day that the remainder of the US citizens will realize that it truly is a modern day utopia and follow in the founder
In some cases, the elections are opinionated, where the judge nominee is associated furthermore has the support of a political party. Each state procedural law has its own requirement for the standards for the election of their judge. For an example, the state of California elections, any qualified lawyer is qualified to run for a seat in the judicial office at election. The procedure is that of a non-partisan which provides that if a vacancy was to arises between elections, then the governor has the approving authority to appoint the judge. Election of judges in the procedural law maintains the supervision of justice consistent with dominating the social ideology.
The people established the nation, so they have the right to decide what happened to it. The topic at hand is citizen working with their government. Both Arthur’s 5th movement and Noveck’s movement demand more a more civilized approach to the government. Arthur’s solution seems to appear well on paper. Similar to Noveck’s idea on an open government.
Many Americans today many not be the most familiar with ancient Greek and Roman history but our founding fathers certainly were and in “their quest to match the deeds of the ancients the founders became our heros… [t]he founders drove the ancients from their pedestals and occupied their places” (ix). Carl J. Richard seeks to highlight the influence the ancients had on our founders. I believe that Richard is very effective in accomplishing his goal of demonstrating what lessons the founding fathers learned from the greeks and the romans as well as how those ideas shaped the foundations of the American government. He accomplished this through his use of clear and specific examples throughout greek and roman history and he showcases direct connections
In todays current society, the Federal Constitution provides that the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives is prescribed in each state by the state legislature. Congress is allowed to grant power by holding elections, which is where power is matched, by the state to control over the election process for state offices. Overall, state qualifications to vote are set by the states, subject to certain restrictions in the Constitution and its Amendments and the authority of the federal government in enforcing the Fifteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. The authority has limits based in the Constitution and its Amendments. States may not use certain factors in determining qualification.
Throughout the twentieth century, citizens of many countries have fought for their personal rights and freedoms. But not all places have experienced expansions of freedom, and they stand as a threat to the free lands--they stand as an example of what could easily be. This fear is exploited in two short stories that are set in very different places: Ha Jin’s “Saboteur” which is set in communist China and Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” which is ostensibly set in mid-century, small-town America. In both “Saboteur” and “The Lottery” short stories, the citizens allow themselves to be controlled by a larger force, be it their political government or their traditions. It was obvious that all of the citizens have choices on where they should stand--
The Electoral College is a system where each state is given a number of electoral votes determined by the number of the representatives in the state combined with two electoral votes for the number of senators, and three electoral votes from the District of Columbia, totalling five hundred and thirty eight votes. The people then vote for their candidate as president and the winning presidential candidate in that state wins the electoral vote for that
The Electoral College is a process that was established by the founding fathers of the United States to elect the President of the country. It was established as a compromise between the election of the President by popular vote and election of the President by vote in Congress. The Electoral College is composed of three parts: the selection of the Electors, the Elector meeting where they cast their votes, and the counting of the votes by Congress. In this paper, I will discuss the composition of and procedures within this Electoral College system in detail. The Electoral College is composed of a total of 538 Electors, of which 270 votes are needed as a majority to elect the President.
“The mode of appointment of the Chief Magistrate of the United States … I venture somewhat further, and hesitate not to affirm that if the manner of it be not perfect, it is at least excellent” --Alexander Hamilton. Our contemporary presidential election system is referred as the electoral college, which provides the president to be determined by the candidate which receives the majority of the electoral votes. Furthermore, the electoral college has been persistently disputed whether it should be kept or eliminated, being there are various proponents that oppose it stating it goes against the will of the people or is undemocratic. However, the electoral college promotes candidates to build campaign platform for the national interest, thus
The Electoral College is the process to which the United States elects the President, and the Vice President. The founders of the Constitution came up with this process. This was done to give additional power to the small states, and it was done to satisfy them. It works by the citizens of the United States electing representatives called electors. Each state is given the same amount of electors, as they are members of congress.

Technically under this system we do not directly vote for our President/Vice President. Instead they select a group of people who have pledged to vote for their chosen candidate. These groups of people that
seldom lifetime appointments. Since most of the appointment systems in place are interim positions or at least not lifetime terms, statewide gubernatorial appointment systems are not terrible judicially independent as with the Federal Supreme Court. It is subject to a lot of abuse though, as is the case with the Federal Supreme Court; therefore, it is lacking in the judicial independence aspect of the scale. The final method to be analyzed is merit selection. Merit selection is a relatively new method of judicial selection, and it has a plethora of variations because of this.
When meritocracy is shown in the political world, the country is governed by people chosen by their own merit or status. Whereas, when cronyism is shown in the political world, the country is governed by people with connections or money. The presence of either cronyism or meritocracy can affect the fairness of a society. When meritocracy is present, there is no doubt that fairness is established.
We chose an oligarchy for our type of government, for our economic system we chose a mixed economy. We chose an oligarchy due to the fact that the island we created was small with a very low population. This would work best for the island due to the fact that the population is small and would be easy to control and rule over the population. Also this would make the system much easier since there will not be little to non government building and meetings would be much more easier to setup. The reason we have chosen a mixed economy for our economic system was due to the fact that there is an oil rig located near the island and thus it would be efficient to import and export oil.
The ideal should be a meritocracy where hard work and innovation is rewarded in order to combine personal interest with the interest of the society, in other words if we want to earn more money or a better condition we have first to work to improve the one of the others by our work. The other system that inspired me was democracy and how to improve it because unfortunately we can 't all rule so we have to elect our representants but the critical point is how to avoid that when they reach what they desire, in this case political power, they separate themselves from their election program for which they were voted. I do not consider bad in themselves the benefits that a politician receive but in how they are used so the deal should be extra wealth in exchange of more control from the people, the fundamental goal is act to improve the
