Legend by Marie Lu takes place in the future when the western coast of the United States, the Republic, is at war with the colonies. The point of view alternates between two characters, 15-year-old Day and June. After the death of June’s brother, the only family she has left, June goes out to hunt his murderer. She is told that it is Day, the most wanted criminal, who has done it. But, as time goes on their paths cross and secrets unravel. The theme of Legend is that betrayal never comes from your enemies. June promises to hunt down and kill the person responsible for the death of Metias, her brother, no matter what. She figures that Day is responsible because he was there when Metias was stabbed. “Day killed my brother… The fingerprints on the ID tag are the same prints found just last month at a crime scene linked to Day,” (47). When she makes connections she finds out that the boy who helped her is Day. “He had grabbed at the ghost of a necklace, the ghost of some trinket or thread. And that’s when I remember… Day’s pendant,” (138). June figured that he was reaching for what …show more content…
She cannot believe that she didn’t realize that he was Day. “I’ve acted like an idiot in front of Metias’s murderer,” (141). June thinks that she was tricked and has shamed the memory of her brother. June hates herself for letting Day kiss her. “Maybe Day didn’t kill Metias, I tell myself. Maybe it was someone else. God-- am I making excuses to protect this boy now?” (141). She likes Day so much that she tells herself that it might not have been him who killed Metias. “For a moment, just a split second, I'm on Day's side. I glance up at Commander Jameson, who stares at me as if she's reading my thoughts. It makes me uneasy,” (65). Even before knowing Day she was on his side for a second, but he betrayed her. June wanted to kill Day, but instead she liked him and that made her feel
The lives of Olga Polites, and her family, were rattled to their very foundation when a beloved family member was savagely murdered. Prior to this tragedy, Olga had stood, adamantly, on the side against capital punishment. Throughout the course of her article, she explains how her stance has been shaken. Such a heinous act, occurring to her so personally, had changed her views. She states that, instead of viewing the shooter as a person, she was “indifferent… to his personal plight.

The novel Legend by Mari Lu stands out from others. Mari Lu uses a protagonist and antagonist to add a conflict in her novel. Doing this shows that “narratives contain a primary protagonist, who is the focus of the narration. In contrast, antagonists are usually portrayed in a negative fashion, and thus, viewers may feel a sense of counter empathy toward them”(Magliano 1). The antagonist should be at least the equal in strength of the protagonist, and preferably stronger.

Through the actions of these characters, violence is an exploited flaw that has been the last resort for Luella Jones, Harrison Bergeron, and Montresor. In the story “Thank you, M’am”, the protagonist

Vengeance has been an ongoing problem for many centuries. In the long run, with the new generation, they have been following the same pattern to get revenge, without knowing the reasons why. If no one is willing to stop and think it over, to evaluate if it’s worth the risk, then the act of vengeance will be ongoing at the cost of many lives. Many people do not realize that having to avenge the death of a loved one will take so much time and patience in their lives. In the short story, “An Act of Vengeance,” by Isabel Allende, the issue involves a young girl who gets raped by Tadeo Cespedes, whom also killed her father on the same day.

Artemisia Gentileschi's depiction of “Judith slaying Holofernes” is my favorite over Caravaggio's “Judith beheading Holofernes” because of the absolute bloodletting portrayed in her own version. In my own opinion, Artemisia Gentileschi's “Judith slaying Holofernes” is the most powerful Baroque painting considering Gentileschi's dark past. Allow me to provide such back story of this woman, and her undeniable genius. Artemisia Gentileschi had been born July 8th, of 1593. She had been an accomplished Baroque painter, despite her being a female painter in the 1600's.
