Nutrition Topic: Nutrition Organization: Topically Specific Purpose: To inform my audience the importance of proper nutrition I. INTRODUCTION A. Attention getter: Did you know that more than two thirds of adults are considered to be overweight or obese in the United States? If obesity rates stay consistent, about 51% of the population by the year 2030 will be obese. B. Relevance: Having a well balanced diet can help us reduce risks of heart disease, diabetes and chronic diseases. C. Credibility statement: I myself enjoy having a well balanced diet. I have learned through my own experience and also research that by consuming proper nutrition my body gets the nutrients and energy it needs. D. B. What is a well balanced diet? 1. Each and everyone has different estimated amount calories they are suppose to intake to maintain their energy based on their gender and age groups. So usually recommended fat intake for everyone is about 20-35%, for their protein is 10-35% of their diet and carbohydrates intake is 40-65% 2. Foods from all different kinds of groups should be eaten. We should consume whole grains such as wheat, rice and oats. They have many nutrients including dietary fiber and several vitamin B and minerals. Protein foods such as lean meats, poultry, seafood that are rich in omega- 3 fatty acids, beans, peas and eggs are good protein sources. (U.S department of agriculture, 2017) 3. Vegetables that are dark green, starchy vegetables red and orange vegetables. Fruits that are fresh canned, frozen and in dried forms are in the fruit groups. Foods in the dairy group made from milk contains calcium which keep our bones healthy, the best choice should be fat-free or low-fat. Such as yogurt, natural cheese, and milk.
