Pamela Meyer I could not think of a speech off of the top of my head so I chose one of the presentations in this module. I chose to listen to Pamela Meyer speak on "How to spot a liar". Pamela Meyer is the CEO of the social networking company Simpatico Networks as well as Calibrate, a leading deception detection-training program. She worked with researchers and studied all of the published research that she could find on deception "from such fields as law-enforcement, military, psychology and espionage" (Meyer, 2011). She then became an expert herself on this subject and received advanced training in several areas such as interrogation, microexpression analysis and behavior and body language (Meyer, 2011). “With my feet still bound, I lunge for him, just as flame bursts from the barrel.” In the book, Liars Inc. by Paula Stokes, the main character, Max Cantrell, begins a company called Liars, Inc. with his best friend, Preston, and his girlfriend, Parvati. One event leads to another, and Preston goes missing. Max has to figure out what happened to Preston without getting in trouble with the police. Max lied to the police about Preston’s location, he lied about dating Parvati, and Preston lied about who he was his whole life.
In the book, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, Cadence’s physiological and safety needs are met. According to the text “We live at least in the summertime, on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts." (Lockhart 1) This shows that Cadence has her physiological needs because she has her private island to live on during the summer and she lives with her mom and her relatives on the island they have food as well as the island which is from the weather, proving her physiological needs are met. Her safety needs are met as well because in the text it said "In this room, every night.
For people to make change in the world, feel powerful, and accomplish what they want they need to at least try to accomplish these things even if it seems out of their reach. In Amy Cuddy’s speech Fake it till you Make it, she discusses how people have to fake being a certain way and doing certain things in order to reach the level of power and goals they desire to accomplish. Amy uses many different forms of persuasion through facts, emotion, personal experiences, and logical explanations to make her points more relevant and better reach the audience. Amy Cuddy persuades the audience of her argument, to “fake it till you make it” and all the aspects within that, through using visuals, personal experiences, and connections.

The video, “The Importance of Being Inauthentic,” posted by the YouTube channel, TEDx Talks, on October 22, 2013, talks about the importance of being inauthentic. The speaker, Mark Bowden, is an expert in human behavior and body language. In the video, he gives a unique perspective on how being more inauthentic is beneficial. He started off by saying that humans are creatures that make presumptions about other people before getting to know them.
I read the book We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. It is a story about a young girl named Cadence Sinclair. This book has taught me a few lessons that are important for people of all ages. Lessons such as appreciate those you love and don’t make major decision while under emotional stress or the influence. E. Lockhart also known as Emily Jenkins has written six other books including a four book series about Ruby Oliver a fictional character.
There were many ways that Heather brought attention to herself and her disability. She was the first woman with a disability ever to be crowned Miss America at that time. She also wrote three books called Listening With My Heart, Believing The Promise, and Heavenly Crowns. Her accomplishments were recognized by many media organizations like the NBC Today Show, ABC, CBS, and CNN. Her story had also been narrated by many magazines like Times and People.
