I’ve been friends with Carson for 13 years, and he is as close to a brother to me as one can get. Throughout these 13 years, i’ve seen him grow and gain skills that I think will help him excel at Dartmouth. Carson and I have been in scouts together since we were tiger cubs, now as Boy Scouts, we’ve been through a lot of stuff and have had some amazing experiences. One of the biggest parts of Scouts is working towards getting the rank of Eagle Scout, which is a very strenuous path. Carson set his goal toward achieving Eagle when we were young, and has persisted towards that goal since. Getting Eagle takes a lot of time and work. From getting all of the merit badges on subjects like lifesaving and environmental science, to planning and carrying
Each year he continued to progress and at end of his 8th grade school year he was awarded a scholarship to attend Cardinal Dougherty High School. This would be the commencement of most successful time period of his life. As Alton described to me, this was a “hectic” period of his life and it made him nervous but he would
What is courage? John Wayne said that “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.” The word courageous does not accurately describe United States Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell. I have admired Marcus’ life for a number of years. His life and experiences help keep me motivated during challenging times.
"Yeah Jenna! Just hold on tight, and have fun!! " I shouted up to the frightened looking girl, clinging for dear life to the zip-line harness. She kicked off, and woosh! Over the river, laughing and yelling, until another counselor caught her at the end.
My time at Camp Green Lake has made me realize the unjust actions of this place. There are many things that need to be fixed and changed. I want to make sure I can convey what’s going on in camp Green lake. Everyday I’m forced to dig holes, and if I don’t I get punished severely.
To be among the esteemed students who are being considered for the National Honor Society is a privilege in itself. To be a member of this society, one that prides itself in strong leadership, excellent character, and a dedication to service is increasingly desirable. This organization is known for recognizing students with exceptional grades and characters, and I hope to further the impression it has made, as I have worked diligently to stand out among my peers. I dedicate myself to my schoolwork, and I feel that my results are a reflection of that. Last trimester, I received a grade point average of 3.9.
The Platoon Leader would barely survive. In fact he flat-lined for 10 minutes. Later that night, I carried my mentor and friend to a Blackhawk for his final flight out of there. Two nights later a memorial was held for our fallen comrade. I had never seen a group of Battle hardened men cry like this before.
“Scouts Honor” by Avi is a realistic fiction short story about three 9 nine-year-old boys who are trying to get to the next level of boy scouts. To make it to the next level they have to camping together and are trying to prove who is the toughest out of all the boys. In the beginning of the story they try to prove who is the toughest out of the three of them and who will stay the longest. They go to New Jersey for their overnight camping trip and are not very prepared. After losing Max and not having enough food they realize that they cannot face these challenges that they encounter.
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Getting good grades is a priority to me. Having a XX GPA and being a Distinguished Varsity Scholar for the past 3 years didn 't happen by luck, it happened because of the sheer dedication I have towards my school and
Well...I was 6 when Child Protective Services came to get us. I lived with my mom and my three sisters, the youngest was Donna she was 5 & Lizzy was 7 and Mary was 10. I remember most of my family lived in the same neighborhood like my two Aunts and my uncle and grandpa and grandma. There was an occasional gunshot, sometimes there was a fire truck rushing down our street . We lived on top of a hill at 1015 Norwich in Grand Rapids.
The book “A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier” is an autobiography about a boy named Ishmael who went through so much at a young age. This book should be read because it’s a story you could relate to and give you a perspective of how society is today than it was before and how it has affected people across the world. On the (front cover of the book) Carolyn See from the Washington Post says “Everyone in the world should read this book… We should read It to learn about the world and about what it means to be human.” She’s right, reading this book will provide you with facts you never known and could change the way you see things today.
Upon becoming an Eagle Scout, I may plan to stay in Scouting by advancing as an Assistant
The transition from childhood to adulthood occurs when an individual is able to recognize the impact he or she can leave upon their community, gaining life skills doing so. An accomplishment that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood, would be best demonstrated by the process and completion of a leadership responsibility when I performed my Eagle Scout Project. I joined the scouting program when I was very young, and have been very active since ever. Becoming an Eagle Scout has many challenges that a young Boy Scout must undertake, including the completion of a community-based project, which is an important step in obtaining this notable rank. The Eagle Scout Project is designed for the scout to learn different leadership responsibilities.
From the moment I was born I was considered a military brat, I was born in Hawaii at tripler hospital because my mom was in the army and stationed there, my biological father was in the marines. When my mom remarried when I was 7, she married a man who was in the Navy. Everyone thinks being a Military brat just means you know more than other people because you 've been more places and seen more things and you get a lot of stuff you want. This is not true at all. Coming from a military background means you never have stability, you are held to a higher standard than all the other kids, and sometimes it makes you want to be in the military and only focus on that.
This year I went to Girl Scouts Camp and I had a lot of fun. I did a lot of things that helped me face my fears. When I was going to camp my mom took me to Family Dollar so I could get some snacks. Afterwards my mom took me to Wendy’s. When we left Wendy’s my mom took me to the place where all the Girl Scouts were supposed to meet.
I didn’t focus on merit badges required for the Eagle Scout Award. My dedication took off during the summer after 10th grade, when I was asked to cover for the Senior Patrol Leader during his absence at Camp Goshen. I was allowed to pick the merit badges, in which I wanted to take part, and the camp offered a large number of Eagle required badges that I could choose. I worked very hard to complete as many requirements as I could for rank advancement during that camping experience, and it broadened my outlook by challenging me to learn new things and stay on track.
