The Renaissance or “rebirth” was a period of great scientific, artistic, and cultural advancement in Europe that gave way to many groundbreaking discoveries, such as the discovery of the heliocentric solar system (Document C), the portrayal of art in three-dimensional form (Document A), the discovery of the composition of the human body (Document D), and many other revolutionary achievements that enriched the society of Europe and their awareness of the real scientific world. During this time period, people began to understand the difference between science and religion and they developed a new understanding regarding their view of their own humanhood, or in other words, there was an evolution in man’s view of man. The year, was 1350. Things in Florence Italy began to change. People began to become more and more self-sufficient, and started to become educated. The population was made up of about 85% serfs. But, some of the freed srefs began to migrate and pick up activities such as trade.

Study of the classicals, mostly the Greco-Romans, were increasingly popular among the people of Europe; humanism was then starting to take shape. In the Renaissance the values and purposes of education was emphasized by humanists, who wants to use it to improve society, economic increased, and above all, to be able to restore religious beliefs.
This piece of evidence shows that when the re-introduced idea of humanism was brought to the people during the Renaissance, it was very influential at the time, but people were still not fully on board with the new idea. Although these ideas were very progressive at the time, they did stir some opposing and confusing ideas from others. The Renaissance is widely viewed to be an era of different cultural changes that brought us widespread of new educational reforms. For the first time, education was considered to be an essential part of a society. To the popular thought of the Renaissance, the people who were educated in the Greek classics and with a standard knowledge of mathematics, philosophy ,and literature would be the ones who would bring the advances of human civilization. However, as the Renaissance went on, the popularity of education declined, and education once again became a luxury for only certain people. The Renaissance was a period in time where everything started to change after the middle ages. During this historical period humans stared evolving by becoming smarter and inventing useful recourses that have changed the world. The renaissance was a life changing period which brought more joy to the world after conquering the dark ages. The Renaissance changed man’s view on the world by using Art, Science and Literature to make humans brighter and because of the rapid information they were gaining. Art during the Renaissance grew rapidly because of Leonardo Da Vici, and Michelangelo who changed the way people painted and drew by creating strategies which made art more interesting.
The scientific revolution is important because it brings to light two fundamental ideas “observation and evidence”, this forced man to compare the physical traits of human forms, this brought about the differentiation between blacks and whites. According to West philosophy in collaboration with science helped bring theory to reality. Philosophers Bacon and Descartes believed that philosophy brought a new standard of knowledge and that observation and evidence were at the center of the scientific method (West pg. 52). Birth of Venus The Renaissance was a period in time that sprang up in Italy directly after the Middle Ages. The term renaissance means “re-birth.” In Mediæval and Modern History, Myers defines the Renaissance as the reentrance into the world of that secular, inquiring, self-reliant spirit which characterized the life and culture of classical antiquity. Western Europeans’ started to form their own kind of literature and art which created a new culture.
As the world took a shift in ideas from the classical into the Renaissance period, these ideals changed not only in thoughts, words, and deeds, but also transformed the artistic expression of the world forever. This paper will discuss this transformation as it relates to the growth of scientific knowledge and how it is used in art. We will visit three works of art from three major stylistic periods. The periods that we will draw from are the Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods. We start here with the Renaissance.

Starting in the 1400’s Europe society moved on after the Black Plague. This led to some dramatic changes in the way people thought about society , god , and the individual. The word Renaissance means “rebirth.” In this case , there was a rebirth of Greek and Roman philosophy , science, and medicine. For centuries , learning had been controlled by the church.
The first article being examined for this investigation is “Renaissance or Prennaisance” written by Lynn Thorndike, published in the Journal of the History of Ideas in 1943. Thorndike was an American Historian, he studied at Wesleyan, and Columbia universities, getting his doctorate in medieval history in 1905. Thorndike taught for many years at Northwestern and Columbia universities before he retired in 1950, but he continued to write academic articles, most famous of which is the one about to be examined. One value of this article is that it provides a view on the Renaissance that is much different from the common idea of the Renaissance, Lynn provides a unique point of view towards the Renaissance that had never before been thought of. Renaissance and Reformation of Humanism Humanism is an attitude of thought which gives primary importance to human beings, and its outstanding historical example was the period of Renaissance Humanism from the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries; rediscovered and developed by European scholars of classical Latin and Greek texts. During that time, much of the wisdom of the ancient world was lost or destroyed, in which intellectual life was dominated by religion and theology. It is often called the “Dark Ages” for this reason. In opposition to the religious authoritarianism of Medieval Catholicism, strong emphasize was placed on human dignity, beauty, potential, and every aspect of culture in Europe, including philosophy, music and the arts.
