Who really is the murder of Hae Min Lee? Two high school teenagers who go to Woodland High School are suspects of Hae Min Lee’s murder. Hae was murdered by manual strangulation, but there was not enough evidence to prove Adnan guilty. Adnan’s friend Jay admitted to helping Adnan bury the body. An investigative reporter named Sarah Koenig made a podcast in 2014 about Lee’s murder. Sarah collects evidence of Adnan’s case to see if he is truly guilty or not. The podcast has become particularly popular given the circumstances of the case. Adnan should not have been convicted of Hae Min Lee’s murder, because there is not enough evidence to prove Adnan guilty. On January 13, 1999 Hae Min Lee went missing. Hae was Adnan’s girlfriend, but they broke …show more content…
Hae liked/loved Adnan. She would write about him in her diary. Hae’s friend named Becky said that “She saw Adnan to be a good boyfriend/person (Koenig “The Breakup”), but other people say that they saw Adnan as controlling. Sarah says that “Adnan did not get a ride from Hae (Koenig “The Breakup”) the day of the murder. Adnan’s friend named Jay said that “Him and Adnan never went to Leaking Park (Koenig “The Breakup”). Adnan explains that “It takes a lot time to clear out the high school (Koenig “Inconsistencies”), there for being impossible for him to kill Hae at 2:36 pm. Detectives found a map book in the back seat of Hae’s car. A page was torn out of it, and on the book were sixteen fingerprints. None of the fingerprints on the book matched Adnan. Sarah started telling people/friends about Adnan’s case. Most of them thought it was shaddy and that it didn’t provide enough evidence. Sarah says that “There’s just not enough physical evidence to prove Adnan guilty of Hae's murder (Koenig “The Deal With Jay”). Sarah thought that it was a little unusual, that the cops never searched Jay’s house to see if had something to do with Hae’s
It is surprising to me how more DNA testing was not done on Hae’s body to see if this DNA matched, something that could determine Adnan’s
In reality, their relationship had to be kept a secret from their parents. Adnan had especially strict parents that would check his car mileage and had to make sure there was no female hair in his car. Adnan had to keep his homecoming crown in his basement from his parents, which later his mom found. The stress that Adnan and Hae had from their relationship ended with Hae breaking up with Adnan. Adnan and his family are Pakistani and follow a strict religion.
Saad is Adnan’s best friend and he just further confirms that Adnan wasn't obsessed
Nothing out of the ordinary happened that day. Lastly, there wasn’t enough witnesses that heard Adnan was leaving with Hae that day. There is not enough evidence to convict him of that murder. Primarily, because the only witness they have on Adnan is Jay. Many people have their droughts on Jay people believe he killed Hae Lee.
When Adnan was in Hae'a car, he found a priority chance to strangle Hae, and then he called jay drive to school picking up him and buried Hae's body. After that, they went to Cathy's home. In Adnan's testimony, he stated that he did not stay with jay at that time because he was going to buy a birth day gift to jay's girl-friend, Sephanie. The star witness, Jay proofed that Adnan showed Hae's body to him and they buried the body. The opposing view of Adnan was murder said that Jay's testimony had changed several times, his story was incredible.
Another piece of evidence that raises concerns is why Adnan wouldn’t call Hae the next day is maybe they went through a little argument and this pushed Adnan over the edge. The prosecutor in Adnan’s trial tells us “This was not a crime about love it was a crime about pride,” “he was so wounded by her,
Usually, nothing significant happens in your day, so you don’t remember it down the line. For example, would you be able to tell me what you have for breakfast last Wednesday? Could you tell me what you did in the afternoon two Saturdays ago? Since nothing particular stands out in my life, I couldn’t tell you. Adnan Syed however, had an extremely eventful day January 13, 1999 considering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee was gruesomely murdered.
Adnan, as is said by Sarah Koeing, "Adnan was the kind of kid who would stand up when your parents came into the room, Ali said. At parties or events, he’d be the first one to ask, 'how can I help you, Aunty? Do you need help setting up those tables, Uncle?'"(Serial Transcript 11). Besides the moments when Adnan was kind to his friends or his family, it is clear as Sarah talks to him throughout the podcast that he truly doesn't know anything about Hae's murder. Sarah also spoke to Deirdre Enright a lawyer in a different, but similar, case, who said "...when you have an innocent
On January 13th, 1999 Hae Min Lee disappeared. Somewhere between 2:15 and 2:36 p.m. that day she was murdered. Four weeks later on February 9th, 1999 her body was found at Leakin Park. On February 28th, 1999 Adnan Masud Syed, Hae’s ex-boyfriend, was arrested and charged with first degree murder. However since his arrest Adnan has maintained his innocence and insists he had no involvement whatsoever in Hae Lee’s murder.
Many years have passed and if he had committed the murder there would be something indicating that. Adnan has maintained his innocence for many years, and it is weird how people do not see that he would confess by now if he had done it, but he hasn't, hee still maintains his
These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
Imagine being accused for something you didn’t do. Imagine having a friend go against you. Imagine one minute your life is on track the next minute everything is messed up. Imagine having a good friend die. Imagine being in jail while the rest of your family and friends are out living their lives.
Kayla Payton ENG 101 Ms.Lafferty September 10, 2015 Why Can’t You Tell The Truth? Jay Wilds is a graduate student from Woodlawn Hills High School; he graduated a year before Adnan and Hae. Jay knew them from school and also because of his girlfriend Stephanie whom Jay has been dating since middle school. Adnan and Stephanie been have friends since middle school, and were close they was in the magnet together, and they was also crowned the Queen and King of junior prom in 1998. Serial has everybody questioning on who the murderer of Hae is, and is everybody telling the truth or is someone lying about everything.
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
This proves that Adnan was the one who killed her. Jay and Adnan both committed a serious crime. Adnan killed Hae with the help from
