Disability is an impairment that corresponds to a person’s development, intellectual, mental, physical, sensory, and/or a combination of these. Having a disability can really affect one’s life activities, whether it occurs since birth or sometime during a person’s life, it’s something that we should not discriminate against because it is something that does not come and go easily. Although this is not a topic that most people cover or talk about, it is very important because it involves the Human Rights. And they should be treated right because we are all human beings. All the media does is imitate or mock people with disabilities but there are some people who actually has the audacity to defend disabilities with the purpose of the Human rights. However, that is only on social media because in reality, the society doesn’t show any attention, unless there is an incident that blows up on the news relating to disabilities. So how is people with disabilities treated in the media and reality? Media’s representation of disabilities is not what most people think it is, the media is there to create reckless beliefs and stereotypes of certain subjects and assuredly is completely wrong about people …show more content…
Not long ago, during the Grammys 2016, Stevie Wonder called for disability rights because he himself believes people with disabilities should be treated right around the world. “For many people with disabilities and those who care for them, daily life may not be easy. Disabilities affect the entire family.” (CDC.12). Families who have a member with disabilities can cause the whole family with stress - emotional, financial and even physical problems. So the fact that they are not being treated right creates a bigger harm for these families and caretakers who are trying very hard to help
As Baynton discusses disability as a justification for inequality, I view it in the sense of a social concept of disability that sets the platform for discrimination and violence against the minority groups. This concept has been implemented in U.S. history to allow discriminatory practices against the minorities to occur. Basically, women, individuals from different races, and ethnic minorities were labeled as disabled as well to interpret inequality as a positive concept. For example, there was justification for slavery in which African Americans did not have the required intelligence which made them incapable of equality with other Americans. This assumption was ascribed to physical causes and differences that were visible in their race.
This specific group of people are portrayed as uneducated in negatives ways. These medias are showing stereotypes which is why we think the way we do. Shows only expose negative things about this group of people. This makes people who are not disabled think they are better in all shapes and forms. Stereotypes strips the power away from the groups of people they are attacking.
For many, their physical disabilities have shattered their lives. For many Americans, they have suffered. They have been exposed to stress, confusion and as O’Brien says

It is important that someone with a disability be given an opportunity to participate in activities like anyone without any form of discrimination. We need to be as accommodative as possible. Another consideration is making sure that the emotional and physical needs are being meet so they are given the same opportunities as people who do not have disabilities. Physical and emotional wellbeing are important for a person’s functionality. It is ethically important that we are able to participate in work, education, society
The media portrays people with mental disabilities as wrongful and bad human beings. There are countless movies, television shows and media outlets that portray having a mental disability. The shows often illustrate them doing irrational things, such as killing others, hurting others, and making it seem like they are not a human being. A few examples of this would be the movie/television show, “Fight Club”, the main character has dissociative identity disorder, along with the movie that recently came out “Split”. There are even some adolescent movies and television shows that have some of the same depictions on mentally disabled people.
This essay will also explore the models of disability and the way the media influences the social construction of disability. This text will then look at the problems disabled people face due to the stigma from the public and
It is important that we treat people who have disabilities as we would any other person we come in contact with so that they are treated equally and fairly. It will also teach the
The only interaction I have with disabled people is an uncle, church member, and a few students, however, the majority of these individuals are only mildly disabled. My uncle is considered disabled as a result
In society today it seems as if the word retarded is used entirely too loosely. Many people who live with disabilities deal with stereotypes daily, many do not fall under the ‘mentally retarded ' category yet are placed there by peers and other public personnel. The numerous disabilities are stereotyped mostly the same, but they are all so different from one another. The portrayal of these stereotypes is carried out in many ways one of the most widely held being the media, another is the general word of mouth (picking, teasing, and torment) or even discrimination. Media is a big part of society today whether it be social media, television, music, and the internet, in general, it affects people daily.
and it's time to make people realize that just because they merely have a disadvantage when it comes to certain tasks and by the way for those people putting so much harsh on those who are different, disabled people are quite successful. There is so many reasons on why people who are disabled that get the little respect they need so dearly, are being described as having less than ideal physical or mental characteristics. The majority of people getting describintized for the person you whether they might have a learning disability or
Entry 3: Currently, in the 21st Century, society has become very fixated on the body. How a person looks, their body shape, how they dress, communicates, and even how one walks. The media bombard us on a daily basis on how to attain the perfect body. Consequently, what does this mean for the person with a disability, but only more exclusion.

6.The lives of people with disabilities are totally different than those of people without disabilities. People with disabilities go to school, get married, work, have families, do laundry, grocery shop, laugh, cry, pay taxes, get angry, have prejudices, vote, plan and dream, just like everyone else. 7.There’s nothing one person can do to help eliminate the barriers confronting people with disabilities.
They face these obstacles by the support of their family and friends like for example I personally saw in my school there was a girl in my class who got blind in class four and wasted two years of her life hoping she would get better which was great obstacles faced by her and her family, even though her eyes were not cured she had this passion for studying so she again enrolled in my school and started to study again and there were lot obstacles faced by her and her family but still she came through as for she was talented and she never lost her faith and studied hardly and thus eliminating her one of her many obstacles. Well in my view also these people are special and we should not look at them with sympathy but treat them as a normal being and also help them in facing their obstacles. We should not socially exclude the disabled people. If Beethoven had given up earlier would we have been able to hear his ninth symphony, he also didn’t hear his ninth symphony as he was deaf but still he gave this world a beautiful piece of music, he
