The JonBenét Ramsey case is an unsolved murder case of a six year old beauty queen that occurred in Boulder Colorado in 1986. Several errors were made by law enforcement in the initial hours of the investigation. The district attorney eventually convened a grand jury to investigate the case.
On December 26, 1996, at approximately 5:00 AM, a mystery stirred at the Ramsey residence in Boulder Colorado. A after a christmas party the following night, JonBenét Ramsey’s mother, Patsy Ramsey got up early in the morning to find a ransom note addressed to her husband John Ramsey. The note said JonBenét had been kidnapped and they demanded a ransom of $118,000 in exchange for JonBenét’s safe return. The ransom was almost the same amount of John

The autopsy revealed JonBenét was strangled with a “garrote made from a tweed cord” (####). Also, JonBenét had a fractured skull which the Medical Examiner believed a broken paintbrush handle was the item that caused the injury. The garrote was tied in a manner where the person who did so had an advanced knowledge of knots. The Medical Examiner did believe there was a possibility JonBenét was sexually assaulted; however, no evidence of rape was found. Before JonBenét death she had eaten a pineapple. The Medical Examiner determined ”the time of death was between 10:00 PM on December 25 and 6:00 AM on December 26” due to the fact when her body was found it was in advanced entered advanced rigor mortis and she showed signs of decomposition. Based on the fact of the decomposition investigators believed she was killed closer to 10:00 …show more content…
Supposedly, the tests determined the “DNA belonged to an unknown male”. The DNA was checked through the FBI’s DNA database; however, there was match to the DNA. As of 2008, Patsy Ramsey has since passed away and the Boulder County District Attorney office made an announcement that due to “developments in DNA technology the Ramsey family is-no longer considered to be involved in the murder of JonBenét Ramsey” (####). Also, John Ramsey received a letter of apology from the Boulder County District Attorney who apologized for the public trial the Ramsey family faced after JonBenét’s
Some think the family wrote the note since it seemed to have been rewritten several times, but the intruder was most likely trying to write the best paper without giving any hints to as who it might be. The note gave them the option to have their child returned as said by CNN Library,“JonBenét's mother, Patsy, says she found a ransom note demanding $118,000 for JonBenét's return,” ("JonBenet Ramsey"). The note had a time on it, the family couldn't call the police, but had to wait for a phone call. The majority think that since they never got a call, the family must have done it, but instead, it could have been the killers focusing on the escape. Hive provides us with key information about the note, “The ransom note warned the couple not to contact the police but to await a phone call between 8 and 10 that morning,” ("JONBENET RAMSEY").
Some may find this piece of evidence not important, but the night of her death Jonbenet did wet the bed; Patsy HATED that Jonbenet was wetting her bed. That night she could’ve got so mad at her and accidentally did the deed. The ransom note was analyzed and Patsy’s writing was said to be a possible match to the note, but it was inconclusive. Patsy also found the note, which was placed on the back of the stairs (the part you see while walking up). This is odd because she claims to have found it while walking down the stairs and it would essentially be impossible for her to see the pages.
1996, JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in the Ramsey's basement. It all started with a ransom note that was found by the mother, Patricia (Patsy) Ramsey, early that morning. The ransom note was not any typical short note left by a murderer, it was a two and a half page note. On the note, the killer demanded $118,000, one hundred thousand of it being in one hundred dollar bills and the rest in twenty dollar bills. The killer stated , "She is safe and unharmed and if you want her to see 1997, you must follow our instructions to the letter."
Patsy found a ransom note and called 911 at 5:52AM. Patsy reported to the police that her daughter had been kidnapped and that she found a ransom note demanding 118,000 dollars. The note stated the child would be killed if the police were notified, but Patsy called anyway. When police arrived on the scene
“During an afternoon search of their Colorado home, Jonbenét’s body was found by her father in the wine cellar, and she had been tied up and covered with a blanket” (Gordon, 5).. The police immediately brought the body to the autopsy to find any clues of who and how she died. “According to the autopsy, JonBenet had been struck on the head with an unknown object with enough force to knock her unconscious, before being strangled to death” (Solin). The autopsy doctor found DNA samples in the child's underwear and in her fingernails “The DNA left in a stain found in the child's underwear reportedly does not match DNA samples provided by dozens of family and
Perhaps even a family member of JonBenét Ramsey. It was around 5:00 a.m. on December 26, 1998, and Patsy walks down the stairs. She finds a two and a half page ransom note lying on one of the last three steps. This note is written with one of Patsy's notepads and a writing utensil in the home.
JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her home December 24, 1996. Although police found a ransom note demanding $118,000, the money would never be necessary, because JonBenet’s body was found under a blanket in the basement that afternoon. Evidence was not preserved correctly with moving her body. There were no signs of forced entree and the ransom note left was suspicious matching the family's bonus.
He looked over the ransom note and surveyed the mansion very roughly. He was in the basement and saw a door with a lock on it but decided to not go in. Little did he know that he completely missed the opportunity to find JonBenet. Behind that door was the little lifeless body of JonBenet that had been brutally mudered. As French finished his “search” of the home, more police arrived.
Semen was found in JonBenet’s underwear and it was said that it was from the father or even 9-year-old Burke. When Patsy called 911 to report a missing persons report for JonBenet, there were voices heard in the background of the phone call found by in. A deep voice, believed to be the voice of John Ramsey, says, “We’re not speaking to you.” Patsy is then heard asking, “What did you do?! Help me, Jesus!”
Nobody knows exactly what is true and what is not. In 2006 John Mark Karr was arrested after confessing to the murder of Ramsey, however, fingerprints did not match samples that were found. The police that discovered the body of Ramsey later on spoke that the parents of the victim were suspicious and didn't seem to react how you would think. This led to a family theory that Patsy Ramsey, mother of the little girl, accidentally killed JonBenet in a fit of rage after a bed-wetting
JonBenet Ramsey December 26th, 1996 in Boulder Colorado six years old beauty queen, JonBenet was murdered in her own home. The Ramsey family had went out for dinner at a friends house the night of Christmas. Once they arrived home, JonBenet was sent straight to bed. That was the last time Patsy and Jhon saw her alive. The next morning Patsy found a ransom note.
In the murder of Jonbenet Ramsey a 6 year old beauty pageant girl who lived in Boulder, Colorado. On the day after christmas of 1996, Jonbenet’s Mom Found a ransom note that said that they kidnapped jonbenet and was asking for money to have jonbenet back. They called the police to tell them that jonbenet has been kidnapped and that they found a ransom note. After a while the dad John Ramsey found jonbenet’s body strangled in the wine cellar in the basement. He looked in the wine cellar first which was where her body was.
When I looked at the handwriting of the ransom note and the handwriting of Patsy, there are some similarities, within the letters. Any individual can make their handwriting look sloppy, but there will always be similarities. I believe Patsy could have been irritated by something that JonBent could have possibly done, which caused Patsy to hit JonBent with a forceful object that could have caused serious brain damage. Instead of taking JonBent to the hospital she decide to stage a crime sense of a kidnap and murder instead. If Patsy did murder her daughter she got away with the
Based on the research of the twenty-year-old unsolved mystery of who killed six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey one or more persons in the Ramseys’ family committed the crime. JonBenet murder continues to grab headlines and troubling questions still arise in her murder. In addition, there have been accruing opinions and questions in response to which member of the Ramsey family murdered JonBenet. The parents had a wonderful Christmas with their families and friends, but the narrative becomes a mystery once they arrived at home that night. It was also said the police officers who arrived noted there was no signs of a break-in.
After being examined the autopsy reported that she had a fractured skull, had been sexually assaulted, and had been strangled with a garrote made from one of her mother's paint brushes. The conclusion of her death was homicide, and the cause of death was asphyxia from being strangled and craniocerebral trauma. When the Boulder Police Department started to investigate they strangely did not interview the Ramseys and when they did they were interviewed separately. For four years the reports from the investigation always came up short. The Ramseys were suspects and although the Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter didn’t file charges against them in 1999, the public still finds the Ramseys guilty.
