Teens should be able to I hunt Killers because this book teaches them the importance of friendship, loyalty to family and doing what a person believes is right. One reason this book shouldn’t be on the banned book lists is because it teaches teens the importance of friendship. In the book I Hunt Killers Jazz goes through a lot in his childhood years, like when his dad taught him how to dissolve human body parts with 2 types of chemical cleaners. Jazz also was 12-13 years old when his dad got arrested by sheriff G. William as Jazz calls him in the book, which is why most people think of him as dangerous and unsafe. “Howie had been the …show more content…
Like when Jazz doesn’t listen to Sheriff G. William because he thinks that the murder was caused by a serial killer not a normal killer, and because of that he goes investigating himself and ends up finding out the pattern of the killer before the Sheriff. “He paused at the door and turned back. Oh, and Jazz? Howie? I catch you two pulling anymore shenanigans and i will not be inclined to go easy on you. Hear?” (Lyga 52). This evidence shows that the Sheriff G. William doesn’t want Jazz’s help with the case and wants him to forget about it and to not interfere. But Jazz goes to the crime scene and tries to find more clues and he does. The clue has the victims anissuals of it. Teens should be able to read I hunt Killers because it teaches teens that even though someone disagrees with them and doesn’t want them to do something that they believe is right, to do it
In his analysis of Catcher in the Rye’s ban history, Norbert Blei makes valid points about how preventing teenagers or young adults from reading the book makes no sense. When growing up, education wasn’t too important, so neither was reading. This was true until he found Catcher in the Rye, which lead him to other great classics. It had a positive effect on his life because he was allowed to read it, and as a teenager he could relate. He then goes on to explain how he believes that no one should have the power to decide when a person is prepared or too immature to read a book by censoring it.
By banning this book in schools, rebellious teens would want to know what the book contains and will try to find a way to read it. Also, by banning this book, students may never know what life was like for slaves or what life was like for whites during slavery. The lessons learned in this book are helpful and can guide children to achieve goals. Do not ban books that will give children the sight, speech, and
Should “Call of the Wild” be Banned? Did you know that Jack London’s “Call of the Wild” won the newbery medal in 1931? Even though this is true some still say that wonderful books like this should be banned from schools so that today’s youth cannot read them. However I disagree and say that we should let today’s youth read these books and that they should in fact not be banned from schools across the country. I believe this for several reasons; kids need to learn to be more mature, this book teaches many valuable things, and finally “Call of the Wild” and other books that are getting banned from schools are timeless Classics that everyone should have the privilege to read and enjoy.
The rarest form of murder is the one of serial murders. It is defined as the murder of three or more individuals with a ‘cooling-off’ period in-between. Serial killers have intrigued people for years and we still don’t fully comprehend what drives them to murder countless people. John Wayne Gacy, also known at the famous “Killer Clown” became a national phenomenon when his 33 rape and murder victims were uncovered in his home and other areas. The purpose of this research paper is to consider John Wayne Gacy’s abusive father, internal struggle with his sexuality, and constant need to be accepted and praised as possible reasons that led Gacy to murder 33 teenage boys.
All books that young adults read have power. Their power results in their ability to sway and to change the reader in so many ways, not the least of these is morally. These books can create a moral sense in the young by demonstrating what is morally right and what is morally wrong. They can raise and resolve ethical issues. The reader may not agree with each resolution, but is certainly forced to think about issues he or she may never have thought about before (Smith 63).
In the United States, every year there are around 2,000 gang-related homicides and in the realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, it explores the issues of gang violence, and teenagers in gangs. Around 40% of all members in gangs are teenagers, who are getting involved in some dangerous things very early in life. In the novel The Outsiders, the “Greasers” which is a gang of all teenagers, fight other gangs and commit serious crimes such as murder. We as a society need to pinpoint why teenagers join gangs and stop them beforehand. We also need to help people get out of gangs if they are already in one.
As any young man matures into adulthood there comes a moment where he becomes more independent, parting ways from those who hold significant value. Dalton Trumbo enlarges this idea in his novel Johnny Got His Gun as he focuses in on the relationship of a father and his son. Trumbo uses several techniques in a manner that is able to highlight and characterize this relationship including point of view, selection of detail and syntax. With the use of third person limited, Trumbo is able to depict the relationship of love and wistfulness in an effective manner while also creating a dramatic atmosphere. With third person, Trumbo is able to establish a background and add a dramatic feel to the plot with statements such as “His father had always preferred his company to that of men and he had always preferred father’s company to that of the other guys.”
There are certain instances of juveniles being tried as adults and sometimes ending up getting a life sentence without a chance of parole. I find that pretty harsh because there have been some cases where the juvenile meant no harm, they were either confused or brought along by gang members and they end up being charged along with the gang members for just being with them when a crime goes down. I believe that juveniles do not deserve to be given a life sentence because for one they are still maturing, they can learn from their mistakes and make amends, we still have to combat crimes like intended murder committed by a juvenile with extreme punishments especially if they are well over the age of 16. In the article published by the New York Times on March 14, 2012 “Juveniles Don’t Deserve Life Sentences”, Garinger discusses that juveniles deserve a second chance since their brains are still developing.
What if your loved one was savagely killed by a teenager with no remorse? Juveniles should be convicted as adults for ferocious crimes because even though they are “kids” they kill innocent people and should get punished for the crime they committed. Teenagers commit gruesome crimes like murder and knowing what they are makes the situation far worse. In the article “Kids are Kids-Until They Commit Crimes” the author Jennifer Jenkins talks about the teenagers that committed gory murders against innocent people that didn’t deserve to die like a road animal. For example, a 13 year old shot to death an english teacher.
“The state of kids publishing is such that it’s perfectly reasonable to be concerned about what agenda-driven and/or prurient content they’re peddling.” (Hemingway) This means it is very reasonable for everyone to be concerned about what the kids and young adults are reading. If parents are not concerned about what their child is reading, their child will follow many bad influences from books they have read. There are many influential books such as The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton that should be banned.
Johnny Got His Gun Dalton Trumbo’s novel, “Johnny Got His Gun” tells all about a father and son relationship that many people may envy for. Trumbo characterizes their relationship with a respectful tone, yet Trumbo also makes the love and trust the father and son share very apparent throughout the novel. Trumbo is able utilize literary devices such as third person point of view and a lack of formal punctuation, using syntax to help the reader have a better perspective on the relationship the father and son partake in.
“I conceive a knowledge of books is the basis upon which others knowledge is to be built” (George Washington). Above the quote communicates the idea that knowledge and information a person may receive is all because of books. Even those books that have been banned because of their content. For example, The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963 for the most part takes place in the south; in Alabama. In fact, segregation has always been stronger there, making it a place most likely for death, violence, and hate toward African Americans.
In Cold Blood: Educational or Inappropriate? When brainstorming inappropriate subjects to discuss with children at school, topics such as murder, violence, inappropriate language, or affairs may come to mind. The question is raised that if it benefits the child to converse about these matters, should books about adult themes, like murder be allowed in schools? Many novels, including In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, arguably should be banned, because it contains gruesome details about real life murders.
A Crime Against Humanity Drugs. Murder. Prostitution. These words should never be discussed in a classroom, particularly when they will influence the audience to participate in them. Truman Capote's nonfiction novel, In Cold Blood, discusses all of these horrid issues through the chilling account of the Clutter family murder on November fifteenth, 1959.
Juveniles should be convicted as adults for violent crimes because it is not fair for juveniles to commit big crimes and get away with it so easily. If they want to act like adults, they should be treated. Some teens commit crimes and don't have a really good excuse on why they do it. In the article “On Punishment and Teen Killers” by Jennifer Jenkins she explains how the teenager that killed her sister, husband and her unborn child excuse of killing them was that he just wanted to “see what it would feel like to shoot someone”, which is no good excuse for what he did to this family. Another example from Jennifer's Jenkins article she states how “undeveloped brain” has nothing to do with teens committing these crimes.
