The implication of school uniforms has many benefits that outweigh the negatives substantially. The first way in which this policy will help is that school uniforms discipline, redirect attention, and reduce overall violence between students. For example, in the Long Beach Unified School District in Long Beach California there was a school uniform policy put into place and the results were tremendous. The gang related violence had dissipated as well as the disciplinary actions taking place, and grades have gone up. All of these changes happened in substantial amounts. However although Long Beach is the most famous they are not the only city who has reported these changes with school uniforms; the city of Baltimore has also done this. According …show more content…
In theory, and in actuality this plan bridges the socio- economic chasm of students that come from all different backgrounds. It costs a significant amount less than buying clothes for the year. On average school uniforms for a week cost $249 (School Uniform Statistics, Statisticbrain.com), which is less than the average American family spends per child on clothing. The average american family spends $689, which is a difference of over $400. I know that I personally spent $800+ for my wardrobe this year as most kids do, they want to have the latest trends and the hottest brands, and if you don't have them you are an outcast. But, if there was a uniform it takes the problem away completely. 90% of teachers said that it “Has addressed the peer pressure issue of “fitting in” by wearing specific brands” Also, 86% of teachers said “The school uniform has been financially beneficial for households” (School Uniform Statistics, Statisticbrain.com). Another issue that this addresses is the dress code for students, the students hate it, the teachers hate it, the administrators hate it. Well this satisfies everyone because the administrators do not have to be on high alert for exposing, and revealing clothing, and the students don’t have to worry about getting detention for wearing …show more content…
At Middletown High School North we have security guards, cameras, and faculty in every hallway but they can only do so much. If everyone is wearing the same thing the police or security guards could easily spot intruders, and take care of the threat promptly. They allow for easy identification of the students as well as the faculty. All while making the intruders stand out. Not only does it help against intruders but it also helps with threats that are inside of the school. For example, with school uniforms you cannot conceal any weapons on your person, and if you are it makes it easier to spot. According to the University of Houston “ First, they potentially provide direct improvements in safety by making it easy to identify unauthorized visitors to a school, preventing the use of gang colors and insignia, and reducing theft since students no longer bring expensive clothing items to school (Stanley 1996)” (Imberman, 2). This may very well prevent the next petty theft or even columbine from ever occurring. To further that statement, president Bill Clinton made a few speeches about school uniforms, “I believe we should give strong support to school districts that decide to require young students to wear school uniforms. We've all seen the tragic headlines screaming of the

One of the reasons of why we should keep uniforms is the fact that it would ‘cost less instead of buying clothing all the time throughout the school year (5). Students also wouldn't have to worry about getting sent home because if there outfit isn’t dress code appropriate. ‘There is also studies showing that students can focus easier because there not paying attention to what everyone else is wearing and they can actually focus on what their school work(6). Also another good thing about school wearing uniforms is the fact that you won't be able to wear gang or inappropriate words or pictures on a shirt. Even though the students have to wear uniforms depending on the school they are still allowed to accessorise there uniforms with a scarf or a different color sock and they can accessorise their
The school near my house (Northglenn Middle School) now has a uniform. I have seen the school become a nicer looking place and more leaks in the dress code would be patched. I would like to take a bit of time talking about the benefits our school could have by introducing the uniform. First of all as I said earlier the dress code would be easier to patch. Second, students could become less critical of others’ clothing.
To begin with, students shouldn’t wear uniforms because it violates a student’s right for freedom. For example, quoting, “https://www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/school-uniforms/” by Marian Wilde, “School uniforms violate a student’s right to freedom of expression...makes a target for bullies from other schools, are difficult to enforce in public schools, and are a financial burden for poor families.” This means that some families aren’t able to afford the school uniforms. Which, leads to many students getting bullied for not having uniforms like their
This can lessen the bullying over who has the best styled clothing, or whose clothes is worth more. This can lead to students making bad decisions to get the clothes they wanted because what they had was not good enough. Without implementing school uniforms, someone who is being bullied and judged by their, and is lost and do not know where to turn to, might end up ending his life or someone else 's. This is not acceptable. This is not how the leaders of tomorrow should be raised and taught. Action can be either provoked now, or after names are carved into concretes and memorials have been taken placed.
Envision waking up every morning to put on the same outfit and walk out the door, stress free. People would not have to worry about what fits, or what is fashionable at the time. Schools would not have to worry about inappropriate clothing but at the same time, that clothing may be a way for a student to express himself. Many schools view uniforms as a solution to several problems, but many schools view uniforms as a lack of self expression. School uniforms should continue, even though children may not get to express themselves, because they prohibit violence, provide cheaper lifestyles, and promote better education.
Imagine you are sitting in a classroom filled with polite and poised children dressed all the same in their school uniforms. You feel peaceful and chaos free. School uniforms are required in a lot of public schools throughout all of america, but some aren't. This issue is affecting plenty of citizens throughout the united states. School uniforms should be required in all public schools across the united states because, school uniforms reduce the amount of distraction in the classroom, school uniforms create a positive, no violence culture and climate on campus, and lastly school uniforms end the competition between the rich and poor, weather it being about who has the nicest or most new up to date clothes.
Through the use of uniforms students are often unable to distinguish the backgrounds of classmates. Students are no longer bullied for the way they dress, or being teased because they are wearing last year’s outfits. Uniforms take the focus away from how a person dresses and turns it towards education itself. Schools
School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).
School uniforms, school uniforms have been debated among the states with tons of studies that say they help with school issues and other studies that contradict school uniforms have no significant change. In order to save money schools shouldn’t be adding more costs to school, school should be cheaper, its fundamental to all kids to learn and not for the parents to be spending more money on school uniforms especially with families on a tight budget. The issue of school uniforms has been around 1969 ever since the US Supreme Court issued a law that kids could protest if it wasn’t disruptive. Bill Clinton also supported this because he didn’t want to see kids fight over expensive clothing.
Many students that know uniforms will be beneficially, but don’t agree with school uniforms will continue to disagree with implementing them. It can be easily agreed that school uniforms may take away their self-expression in school, but what matters more in school is the way of learning. It can also be agreed that many students do not accept the self-expression of their classmates and make fun of them. Students, parents, and school administration should be able to recognize the benefits that school uniforms come with.
It actually has a lot of benefits like reducing distractions, reducing peer pressure or bullying, saving money, and enhancing school pride. At first glance, fashion might seem to have very little to do with learning, but as the saying goes, the clothes makes the student. Mandatory uniform policy has made a distinct difference in many schools. School uniforms will keep students focused on their education, not their clothes. According to A bulletin published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals stated that "When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork".
In the article of Dr. Alan Hilfer from 2009, “Disadvantages of a School Uniform Policy” stated that “We need free thinking children of to become thinkers of tomorrow, not droned who will continue making the mistakes of previous generations”(Hilfer, 2009). Feelings on school uniforms seem to differ as much as the reasons for having them, hate it, or love it. Recent studies done in the University of Alabama states that: “Student Uniform use was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables. In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different academic performance” (Brunsma & Rockquemore, 1998). The problem whether schools should still be continuously implemented is a highly debatable topic.

Eradicating gang association amongst the school grounds can definitely lead to a safer and better learning environment for the students knowing that they'll be safe when coming to school.
Did you know that when students wear uniforms that the work better and get things done quicker? Imagine yourself in school worrying about what you’re wearing simply because it isn’t the “name- brand” things. With uniforms you don’t need to worry about that. Wearing uniforms can prevent gangs and gang colors from happening at school. In schools there are “gangs”, and they are often interpreted simply by the clothing that they choose to wear to school.
