All he really did was sit back and listen to all the delegates of the congress. It was said that he spoke “very modestly in a cool but determined style and accent” (8). This demeanor made many people look up to him as a natural leader that thought things through enough to understand that when he did speak his words would have an impact. Another way that people could see his character was when he was nominated for President. When nominated he was very hesitant to take the role because he did not know if he was the best possible candidate for the job. This shows that he wanted the best for the country and wanted the United States to succeed. He was a prominent leader in the military as well as government. George Washington started out his military campaign as a major in the Virginia militia. His military experience led him to becoming the head of the Continental Army. During the start of the Continental Army John Adams stated that, “‘by his great experience and abilities in military matters’ the colonel was “of much service to us’”(97). Not only did he become the head of the Continental Army, he also became the first President of the United States. He started out as a representative in Virginia’s House of Burgesses, and then progressing to be a delegate in the first and second Continental Congress. He led the United States to declare independence from England and continued to lead until the United States gained independence. Everybody respected him as a leader and followed his example, he motivated many troops and his military experience helped shape how successful the army was. George Washington did not just stand behind the lines and tell troops where to go. Washington would be at the front of his troops leading his men. An example of his great military leadership was at the Battle of Trent when George Washington marched the Continental Army to Trenton, where he led an offensive attack on the British, which was highly successful. While these were major reforms, neither of these things required much strength or leadership skill, like that which Lincoln displayed. On the other hand Washington showed excellent leadership skill. His prowess as a military general was proven “on the field of battle”(Weston 4) during the Revolutionary War. His moral compass was another admirable trait of the leader Washington. Washington set the precedent for future presidents through the “tradition”(Weston 3) of only running for two terms in office.

Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.

Washington could persuade friends, enemies and the colonies to work together towards a better and brighter future for not only for themselves but for future generation. He and the other founding fathers attempted to set up a government that would allow individual rights but yet still hold enough power to defend its citizens from danger.
The United States was the biggest superpower in the world and needed a miracle for them to win and take over the lands.
