Like other specialty in nursing, a GCNS has a few key roles to perform. One of the key roles that a GCNS needs to fulfil is to mentor and clinically educate junior nursing staff with evidence-based practice in evaluating and using research finding to implement best practice of care with the patient and their families; and another one is to collaborate and participate in the interdisciplinary care of the aging population which is the most fundamental practice of a GCNS (Conley, Burket, Schumacher, Lyons, DeRosa, & Schirm, 20).
