If you were able to rule anything, what type of leader would you be? A tyrannical leader who only thinks of himself or an ethical leader who cares and takes care of his people. Well, some people only think of themselves, and one of those people is named Macbeth. Macbeth is a play written by Shakespeare; it presents tyrannical leadership. Macbeth is filled with tyrannical leadership because of the murders he committed to become king. He thinks he is able to become king because of the prophecy of the three witches. Macduff then kills Macbeth making him the new king who does not present tyrannical leadership skills. In the article, “Ethical Leaders vs Tyrannical Leaders,” the passage summarizes how being an ethical leader has more positives than being a Tyrannical Leader. Directly stated in the article, “The tyrannical leader manipulates and coaxes through fear and threats; or seduces through charisma and handouts. These leaders encourage loyalty to themselves, rather than to the project or the company.”- Fernando Galindo Cruz This connects with Macbeth because it shows that Macbeth was manipulating himself by continuing to murder people on his own free will, knowing that he didn’t want to do it in the first …show more content…
In the article, “Ethical Leaders vs Tyrannical Leaders,” it shows that tyrannical leaders don’t care or fear anyone, whether it’s their enemies or allies, and that does not show or present good signs of being a good leader. The article states, “Someone who produces results without caring about ethics — without caring whether the objectives sought are good or bad and how people are treated in order to achieve them — is an operator, not a genuine leader.” This is connected by Macbeth not fearing or caring what Banquo can or will do to his throne as king. This shows how Macbeth is starting to become more and more a tyrannical leader throughout the
The main character, Macbeth, was a good Thane. Macbeth had all the qualities, he was loyal, a good leader, and a good soldier. Although he met all of these qualities he was selfish, wicked, strongly ambitious, and hungry for power. The thought of being king is great and the work to get there is hard. Unfortunately Macbeth’s
Most people in power in the world are corrupt due to money and political positions. Not so unlike in Macbeth, a play by William Shakespeare, where the main character Macbeth after three witches give him, a prophecy saying he would be king and his friend Banquo’s sons would be king Macbeth begins his ascension to the throne through unnecessary means of which lead to his own downfall. Ultimately the pursuit of power not only led to the downfall of Macbeth but to those around them. From the beginning of the play, we can immediately see the cycle of corruption taking hold of the characters, mainly Macbeth. In the first scene Macbeth is in battle and is fighting the rebel traitor who is the thane of Cawdor.
In Act III of Macbeth, a play written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth has become King and now rules over Scotland, causing tension in with his subjects. Macbeth has become a power-hungry tyrant, as he strives to stay King. “...I hear it by the way;but I will send./There’s not a one of them but in his house/I keep a servant fee’d…” (3.4.153-155). After hearing of Macduff’s treachery, how he went to England to rally troops, Macbeth stated that he will get more information, as he has spies in every house.
The play entitled Macbeth by William Shakespeare portrays Macbeth, a loyal and brave thane to the king. When a prophecy reveals he will become king, Macbeth is overcome with ambition and greed. Convinced of this prophecy and the encouragement from his wife, he is able to kill the king and take the throne. Although Macbeth was able to obtain the throne, he was was overwhelmed by power and guilt leading to internal conflict, which suggests that success is not desirable through cheating and corruption and ultimately cost more than its actually worth, Macbeth`s reckless pursuit of killing and becoming the king is representative of the power he has and what he is able to do with the power he's gained; therefore. His relentless ambition for king reveals the guilt behind power.
If you value humility and being altruistic, you will be sincerely disappointed in the outcome of Macbeth along with modern day rulers’ real life decisions. Shakespeare’s character Macbeth was a powerful ruler who became extremely egotistical when he was given power that wasn’t his. Along with being egotistical, he is very selfish when it comes to making decisions that only benefit him. This is shown in modern day scenarios; for example, Hitler and Nayib Bukele. All three narcissistic men do things to benefit themselves to endure power.
The main characters in Macbeth that are in control are expressed to be, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and the three witches. Macbeth shows ambition but is also easily influenced. He follows through with what needs to be done to achieve his goal. Macbeth is in control of his actions but never follows control of the outcomes. “If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me, Without my stir.
In Macbeth written by Shakespeare there is a main character named Macbeth and three witches told him in the future he would be king. When Macbeth hears that he killed the current king and one of his friends that could be king. Eventually he was king and then felt guilty about the killings and went crazy then got macduff's family killed. When Macduff heard that Macbeth killed his family he killed macbeth. Throughout the play, Macbeth’s actions are being controlled by the emotions of greed, fear, and jealousy.
Despite prophecies made by the Three Witches that foretell his invulnerability, Macbeth’s flawed character shines through and his impending doom is met. Turning to outside sources, the articles “What Makes a Leader” and “The Focused Leader” by Daniel Goleman describe the impact that certain traits have on leadership, and unfortunately for Macbeth, he does not possess any of them.
Because Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s decision to murder Duncan, Both face the guilt of the power they abused portrays on the shadows that reflect on them as well as the natural consequences they will face. During the first half of the play, Lady Macbeth expresses her unnatural feelings and this is demonstrated through the corruption of power when she want’s to hire people to kill Duncan because she thinks that Macbeth is too scared. At first, when Lady Macbeth hinted “Their drenchèd natures lies as in a death”(1.7.78). This demonstrates that Lady Macbeth is characterizing corruption of power due to the fact that she want's to kill Duncan, therefore she can be queen of cawdor while Macbeth is king.
Control is a recurring theme in the play "Macbeth" as it warns the audience of the reprecussions of trying to control your fate. The first key event where control features in a significant way is the witches prophecies. They tell Macbeth that he will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland which establishes the importance of fate. Shakespeare conveys the witches as agents of evil that are deceptive and dangerous, "oftentimes to win us to our harm/the instruments of darkness tell us truths," showing that they use truth itself to influence a horrible outcome (Macbeth 's tragic demise.) Their message is compelling and attractive and we can clearly see their effect on Macbeth as it greatly contrasts to that of Banquo.
Later in the play, one of the witches’ prophecies states that Macbeth should fear Macduff from taking his power as king. Since Macduff is currently out of Scotland, Macbeth decides to target Macduff’s family and servants instead. This decision contributes to displaying Macbeth’s poor leadership qualities by showing that he is impulsive and that his actions are fueled by anger and fear rather than logic or strategy. According to Forbes “Five Similarities Between Leadership and Parenting”, accountability is one of the most important qualities an effective leader has. “Showing up on time, taking responsibility for your actions, and feeling an obligation to uphold your word by doing what you say you will, are all qualities that parents want to instill in their children…” (Forbes).
“Remember the difference between a boss and a leader: a boss says go- a leader says let’s go”-E. M. Kelly. Macbeth (written by Shakespeare) is seen as a good leader by most of the people that have read the poem because he is brave and courageous. Machiavelli’s The Prince, would disagree with people’s idea of Macbeth being a good leader because he has morals and no ambition for violence. Everyone thinks they have morals till the want something.
A common theme in Macbeth is that power and corruption come hand in hand. Frequently, people with power lie and go against the better welfare of their people. Tragic hero, Macbeth, and political mastermind, Joseph Stalin, end up corrupted by trying to control and obtain power. They both wanted power and superiority so they did everything they could to get higher and higher on the totem pole.
William Shakespeare, playwright of Macbeth, shows the importance that power and corruption can hold on a person’s humanity. In order to prove the true effect of personal gains, he uses the main character, Macbeth, to show how evil people are willing to become. Personal power has the ability to be essential to greatness, but at the same time is able to destroy a person’s true nature. Believe it or not, Macbeth once was a man of honor. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth was loyal to King Duncan, a strong military leader, and a respected husband.
At the beginning of the play Macbeth, the main character Macbeth learns that he will become King. When he realised he could be the leader, the power he desperately craves motivates him to alter his character. “Tis unnatural, Even like the deed that's done.” (2.4.6-14)
