George Washington was definitely a large figure who had history with America. He had an impossibly long list of accomplishments, but is mostly known for leading the Revolution, and then becoming president in 1789. He was against parties. He was the most popular person in America, and had a lot of expectations and work in front of him. All presidents faced a challenge, and Washington had many. He had to work with Congress to start building the foundation of the country. America was deep in debt, there was no top judiciary system, and on and on. He gathered a cabinet to support him and successfully solidified the future of America. John Adams, his vice president, stepped up after Washington. The XYZ Affair consisted of French requesting bribes, and a consequent undeclared war was going on. Adams also had to enact the Alien and Sedition Acts, against the Constitution to secure the U.S. from France. A tired Adams left the office for the last time in 1801. Along comes Jefferson, a Democratic-Republican, who literally walks backwards and turns Adams work around. He reduced the bank, the taxes, the debt, the military, and increased the power of agriculture, the number of federal workers, and introduced free trade. Did I forget to mention he doubled the size of America? After Toussaint L’ Ouverture fought and freed all the slaves in France, Napoleon needs money and friends. He looks over at Jefferson, who’s seeking to end land disputes and control the Mississippi. He tries to buy New Orleans for $10 million, but things get out of hand and he buys 828,000 square miles for $15 mil. 4 cents an acre isn’t shabby. OK, #4, James Madison. He was a good fit; a Founding Father and closely regarded by the previous presidents. But he was forced to direct his attention to the War of 1812, as British France and America began bickering
