School uniforms should be enforced in school districts throughout the country. The definition of school uniforms is standardized clothing for regular school attendance worn in conformity with school policy. There are strong points and facts that can be made why school uniforms should be worn by students. School uniforms can reduce violence and crime within the school setting. My next point will be school uniforms help students believe they belong and do not feel the need to dress a certain way to fit in. The last and final point is school uniforms can save money and time. Even though many people believe public school students should not have to wear school uniforms, it is very effective for students to wear uniforms. Uniforms reduce violence and crime, they help students feel they belong, and uniforms save money and time. It has been argued by opponents that school uniforms can be a financial burden on many parents who need to buy school uniforms. Proponents have researched buying regular street outfits and school uniforms and the cost of each. The …show more content…
Every August parents start school shopping with their child. This takes a large amount of money and time from the parents to make sure their children look good for the upcoming school year. Angella Benjamin said the following about time spent on school uniforms “the time you spend going to different stores to get the clothes your child needs could be spent doing something else. There are uniform stores available. Walk in, get your supplies, and you are done for the day.” If schools had school uniforms parents would not have to worry about the time it will take them to get the school shopping done or how much money they would have to spend. School uniforms are a set price and can be used from year to year. Parents will be able to calculate how much money they would need to spend and have an exact amount for school
This is one of those debates that happens over and over again. My judgement on school uniforms is a yes and a no. It would stop bullying over clothing but it basically tells the kids that they can’t express themselves at school. School uniforms would stop distractions but the children would feel like they can’t show their differences in clothing like some kids like colorful stuff and some have traditional clothing and some like certain things that they like to dress in. School uniforms are not a bad idea but the flaw is how the uniforms affect the students minds.
Samantha Sanders Howard EBusiness Communications 5 December 2014 Some schools have uniforms and some do not. Although there are several different reasons as to why, most are similar. There are some pros to having uniforms and several cons, as expected. Some pros include not having to pick an outfit in the morning, or having to wash several different outfits for school the night before.
After many centuries school uniforms became more popular and now about 20 percent of schools in the U.S have school uniforms and about 50 percent have strict dress codes. Some people say that uniforms should be used in all school because there are many pros to it like better school behavior, but others say that there are a lot of cons to school uniforms like they hinder student creativity. I think that there are so many pros of school uniforms and that they are a great thing to have in all schools. I think that school uniforms would help all school behavior dramatically and it would stop conflicts before they come up. The cons of school uniforms are not very strong and they are not cons at all they are just pros in disguise.
School is a place where kids should be able to express themselves, not be put in regulated clothing. School is probably one of the only place kids can express themselves. Kids should not have to wear uniforms because uniforms take away our freedom of expression.
The effect on this is that kids will either want to come to school. Another reason is because students will be nervous for school everyday. That why students should not wear uniform. In conclusion uniforms is a bad idea. Another reason students should not wear uniform is because students parents might struggle for paying for uniform and and the kids might feel uncomfortable wearing uniform.
In 2007, “87.9% of the students were opposed to uniforms at MD public school” (Wharton). There is a debate between parents, students and teachers about school uniforms being enforced in public schools since the 2000’s. Many people say that school uniforms shouldn’t be worn in public schools, while others disagree. Despite the debate, there shouldn't be a need to wear school uniforms. School Uniforms should not be worn because they violate a humans right of freedom of expression.
Envision waking up every morning to put on the same outfit and walk out the door, stress free. People would not have to worry about what fits, or what is fashionable at the time. Schools would not have to worry about inappropriate clothing but at the same time, that clothing may be a way for a student to express himself. Many schools view uniforms as a solution to several problems, but many schools view uniforms as a lack of self expression. School uniforms should continue, even though children may not get to express themselves, because they prohibit violence, provide cheaper lifestyles, and promote better education.
Imagine you are sitting in a classroom filled with polite and poised children dressed all the same in their school uniforms. You feel peaceful and chaos free. School uniforms are required in a lot of public schools throughout all of america, but some aren't. This issue is affecting plenty of citizens throughout the united states. School uniforms should be required in all public schools across the united states because, school uniforms reduce the amount of distraction in the classroom, school uniforms create a positive, no violence culture and climate on campus, and lastly school uniforms end the competition between the rich and poor, weather it being about who has the nicest or most new up to date clothes.
School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).
For example, you don’t want to buy something for your child that they won’t want to wear or use, especially if they don’t help with absolutely anything. To sum up the fact, many of the people who agree on not having school uniforms stand strongly. However, they are completely convinced they will work wonders for two main justification bullying can’t be eliminated and clothing can’t boost performance in academic environments.
School Uniforms THESIS: School uniforms provide safety for all students and should be enforced. What are school uniforms? School uniforms are just clothes that everyone wears in order to go to school in some places, School uniforms first came about around the 1550s, in London.
It actually has a lot of benefits like reducing distractions, reducing peer pressure or bullying, saving money, and enhancing school pride. At first glance, fashion might seem to have very little to do with learning, but as the saying goes, the clothes makes the student. Mandatory uniform policy has made a distinct difference in many schools. School uniforms will keep students focused on their education, not their clothes. According to A bulletin published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals stated that "When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork".
In the article of Dr. Alan Hilfer from 2009, “Disadvantages of a School Uniform Policy” stated that “We need free thinking children of to become thinkers of tomorrow, not droned who will continue making the mistakes of previous generations”(Hilfer, 2009). Feelings on school uniforms seem to differ as much as the reasons for having them, hate it, or love it. Recent studies done in the University of Alabama states that: “Student Uniform use was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables. In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different academic performance” (Brunsma & Rockquemore, 1998). The problem whether schools should still be continuously implemented is a highly debatable topic.
The implication of school uniforms has many benefits that outweigh the negatives substantially. The first way in which this policy will help is that school uniforms discipline, redirect attention, and reduce overall violence between students. For example, in the Long Beach Unified School District in Long Beach California there was a school uniform policy put into place and the results were tremendous. The gang related violence had dissipated as well as the disciplinary actions taking place, and grades have gone up. All of these changes happened in substantial amounts.
Obviously, we can see that there a small difference between the school uniform and the normal clothes which are school uniform has a cheaper price compare to the normal clothes. From the financial and economic aspect, School uniform is much worthy to buy as they cheaper and this will help to reduce the pressure of their parents. If the family have a lot of children which are going to school, they can be passed down the school uniform. Next, from the sentences of Brittany Whelan (2010) and he says: ``It (school uniforms) can help them save money because they have to buy the same outfit for every day, which means five outfits that are the same, and costing the same price``. As a result, school uniforms allow college students have a less stress and have a more time for a morning routine.
