Why Students Should have a Longer Lunch Did you know that kids in France have a two hour lunch break? In Germany they also have a two hour lunch where kids go home to eat hot lunches with their families. They get a break, exercise, and a home cooked meal. Germany is ranked 1st and France is ranked 8th in the world for education by U.S. News. American school systems limit lunchtime to an extent that kids have to scarf down their food which is very unhealthy. They eat boxed lunches largely made up of packaged foods. They also don’t have enough time for a good break or exercise. So it would be good to have a longer lunch period for students. Longer breaks during lunchtime have been proven to help kids concentrate and study more. During lunch breaks …show more content…
It helps because we can get fresh air, run, and get our blood flowing. It also wakes us up and keeps us alert. When I am in the classroom for too long, I can get tired or anxious to go outside. Researchers from the medical college of Georgia did a 15 week study where they saw significant improvement in test scores with regular exercise (Livestrong.com). Healthy foods have become a rarity in today’s lunches. Box lunches are generally full of packaged junk food and school lunches are questionable. When are fish sticks considered healthy, and that is on almost every school menu. Healthy foods like fruits and vegetables give the nutrition that kids need to stay focused in class. Short lunch breaks also encourage kids to eat quickly. Eating quickly is unhealthy. Kids feel rushed and either eat more than they should or don’t eat enough. It seems that the lunch break in today’s American school system fails to support a proper balance. The focus is on maximum class time not maximum quality of the time in class. Usually when schools want to maximize class time, time from lunch is the first to go. It seems Germany and France are good examples of how education can be excellent with a longer lunch break. I know I would benefit from a longer lunch break. If I don’t eat properly I get tired. I also get restless if I don’t get enough
Every year, more and more food is wasted and school lunches because nobody thinks they are good anymore. The quality of food goes down, less students eat, and more wish they could go and eat somewhere, anywhere, else. If schools were to add off-campus lunches, however, that would all improve. While off-campus lunches may promote unsupervised behavior, going off campus for lunches is a viable option because it is cheaper for the school, cheaper for the students, and makes sure everyone will eat.
To start off, what if I asked if you have ever felt that your school provided lunch wasn’t all that great? If I had asked a student, chances are they’d say that they don’t eat their school lunch by choice. But we’re just seventh graders that don’t know a lot of what really goes on when it comes to our lunches, so I intend to show you some research that I found from credible sources that proves that school lunches need to change. First off, let me give you the gist of what it says on an infographic about school food vs prison food where both would probably be fairly unappetizing for the person that was eating. The prison food tray has 3-4 ounces of meat, one beverage, one serving of fruit or dessert.
Healthier lunches would help control kids weight because over the years obesity has grew in the population of kids and adults. Public schools in the United States has gone to health foods to control the weight of people in the population. Eating healthy is a good thing but I don’t think students should force someone to do that. With healthy lunches students will pack their lunch more ,and it will cost the schools money.
The government has been taking more and more control over what we have been consuming. They have too many worries going on in America to try to judge us on how we eat. The government shouldn’t have any involvement in how we eat and what we need to do to limit obesity in America. The Government may have control over our meals and diets, but they also don’t understand it is recommended for men to consume 2,700 calories and 2,200 for women.
Should School Have Open Campus Lunches Seventy percent of all high schools in America have closed campus lunches. At U.S. Grant High School they are one of the schools that do not allow students to leave campus for lunches. When students do leave the campus, they get an one hundred dollar truancy fine the first time. The next time is five hundred dollars.
One of the reasons that people agreed is some parents are paying unhealthy school lunches that their kids are eating. In the article it stated “Less Fat, More Veggies”, it said, “It recommends meals containing fewer calories, less fat and salt, and more fruit, vegetables
On a typical school day, students sit through 7-8 hours of nonsensical busywork before they can even leave the building. Most high schools in America have a strictly structured day planned out for their students. To begin the day, students sit in class for a few hours. Then they are exposed to some of the worst food known to man, cafeteria food. Not to mention that once they are done scarfing down the sodium-rich garbage called food, the students have to sit in class for a few more hours before their freedom is regained.
Shoyo School Rules ★1. Ketchup is illegal in the school cafeterias. Using too much ketchup in school lunches is seen as "Too American" and students will soon forget the taste of Japanese cuisine. However, if someone orders a plate of French fries, they can have a small plate of ketchup and the sauce cannot be used with other food. ★2.
For example, sometimes the school will serve spaghetti in little plastic bowls with meatballs. But unfortunately, the meals are so popular that by the time students come to fifth lunch about an hour later, all the food is gone. Or, if there is still some left, it is soggy and lukewarm under the dull heat lamps. The consequence is that some students have to pick another meal, or they have to eat an unsatisfactory lunch that will leave them hungry for the rest of the day, like eating one roll of cheap, and usually stale, mini donuts. Finally, there are mental benefits of having first lunch over
If a school has unhealthy lunch, the kids might be happy for the time, but their life won’t be happy in the future when they grow up to be obese. All of this information proves that schools are a lot healthier now and they should keep it this way for many years to come. This healthy food also gives kids enough energy to get through the day. If they eat unhealthy lunches they won't have enough energy to make it through the day so they won't learn as much as they could if they eat healthy school lunches. In the end, schools are better off with healthy foods rather than unhealthy foods for many
These school lunches are something that almost every child in the United States experiences. With the regulations in place for school lunches, they may be considered healthy, but at many times they are not considered to be delicious. Many school lunches are being thrown away by students simply because they dislike what they are forced to put on their plate. The worst part of all of it all is that the students are well aware the lunches are good for them. In short: The guidelines of a healthy school lunch should be relaxed because many schools cannot afford it, more students no
Snacking has proven to increase energy rates, which would help students’ and schools if used right. Snacking would keep students minds focused on their work and what is going on in the classroom. Although some time may be lost during the extended breaks, it would be made up. There is no point for students to sit through a class on an empty stomach and not be paying attention. This would all be solved by students being able to eat in class because it helps the mind focus and stay on task.
We learn what happens in the real world, like we learn what our parents go through when holding cash and buying lunch somewhere other than school. According to Sammie Yee a reporter, the text states, “Having the opportunity to eat off-campus can teach students time management and discipline”. The evidence supports the reason it's a good learning opportunity because it teaches us students time management and discipline. Off-Campus lunch is a good learning opportunity and can have benefits. There are plenty of benefits to off-campus lunch.
Studies show that overweight students tend to have more problems with learning and paying attention (Miura). Many parents also fear that children would have the chance to skip school of get into drugs and alcohol while they are loose for their lunch break. People of the communities have also expressed their fears of increased traffic and increased risk of traffic collisions (?9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch?). Not only can open lunches cause health problems, but they can lead to other dangers such as a car crash or
Another reason why school lunches should be free is because Children need nutritionists to grow. Lacking in the nutrients they need can decrease their learning abilities. There are many evidences that shows children who are hungry are not able to focus, so they have a low attention span, behavioral issues, discipline issues in the school. So nutrition is critical for a child 's brain and for concentration and learning at school. Having breakfast and lunch can increase their chances to succeed in school and in life
