We Believe: The foundation of success is built upon self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines strengthens the live of America’s youth by ensuring this foundation is firmly set, and by promoting the mental, moral, and physical development of our members. What We Do Since our humble beginnings in 1959 with one unit and a handful of kids, the Young Marines has exploded into over 280 units with 9,600 members and 2,500 adult volunteers in 46 states, the District of Columbia, Germany, Japan, with affiliates in a host of other countries. These orientation meetings focus on history, customs and courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, and military rank structure. After graduating from Young Marines Recruit Training, the recruits can learn additional skills, earn rank, wear the Young Marines uniform, and work toward ribbon awards. Ribbons signify achievement in areas such as leadership, community service, swimming, academic excellence, first aid, and drug resistance education. S.P.A.C.E.S. Summer Programs The Summer Program of Adventures, Challenges, Encampments and Schools (SPACES) allows Young Marines the opportunity to attend leadership schools and programs for junior and advanced Young Marines. The Adventures programs are designed with a historical emphasis, and are aimed toward junior Young Marines. Older Young Marines can participate in Challenges, which are concentrated sessions in areas like survival skills, wilderness training, and water-based activities. Encampments are for Young Marines of all ages, providing an experience in a wilderness and adventurous setting and meet other Young Marines from across the
