When things get out of hand, there is always someone to blame, right? In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the blame is not really placed on anyone. When the reader’s questions were left unanswered, readers have started pinning the fault on characters. Many people could take the blame for the death of some special kinsmen and beloved children. Ultimately the Capulets and Montagues are behind it all. Many believe it was the parents, because right off the bat there is a quote; “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes. A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life, Whose misadventured piteous overthrows” (prologue.5-8). The quote states that the lovers took their lives, due to their parents feud. Juliet did not want to, legally could not, marry Paris. The whole cause of the huge confliction is due to the parents. They did not want Juliet to marry Romeo, because he is a Montague. They thought Paris would be a better match for Juliet. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris, Capulet freaks out. In Shakespeare's play capulet states, “Thursday is near; lay hand on heart advise. And you be mine, I’ll give you to my friend; And you be not, hang, beg, starve, and die in the streets, For, by my soul, I’ll ne’er acknowledge thee, Nor what is mine shall never do thee good. Trust to’t. Bethink you. I’ll not be forsworn.” (III.v.192-197). After her father storms out, Juliet looks to her mother for help. All Lady Capulet says is, “Talk not to me, For I’ll not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee” (III.v.204-205). Juliet, not knowing what to do, asks her nurse, who is her closest family member, who she should be with. The nurse who was originally on team Romeo and Juliet, has now decided Juliet should be with Paris. In the 1996 version of Romeo & Juliet by Baz Luhrmann the Nurse gives Juliet a big speech.
