Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, “Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves the lives and the world around you, the greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring to your own life.” This quote clearly explains what service truly means to people that care about others from their heart. National Honor Society is an organization which recognizes students’ achievements not just with exceeding grades, but with service, leadership, and character. Serving others is an important and valuable pillar of the National Honor Society. Additionally, helping others has impacted my life and will impact my future in positive ways. The pillar of service is an important quality that can define a person’s love and devotion for others. Helping others is not a one-way street. Service opportunities make a difference not only to those who receive the help, but they also help shape the volunteers themselves. When people decide to notice, decide to act, decide to make a difference, they have taken the first step in changing the world. Service does not have to be something extravagant, it can be a simple minute of helping a peer or neighbor do a task. Every act of kindness can make a difference in …show more content…
In addition, it has been influential to my life. Service does not just benefit the person doing the task, but it also impacts the individuals receiving the aid. Several people may not know it, but serving is something that can be done every day. I have shown qualities of service through school activities and my community. For instance, participating in Key Club and my church youth group for many years has kept me involved in serving. Furthermore, by having the opportunity to be part of the National Honor Society and being able to showcase my qualities, I can see that the National Honor Society is a benefit of being involved and working hard in high
Now lastly service, service can be exemplified by volunteering at places like the community service, helping with races, or volunteering at museums like the Mariners Museum, and the Living Museum. I personally can connect to the service category because you can learn a lot about doing community service and helping others out. It can also give you a new learning experience. But now, I would like to give some advice to the new members. Firstly, always try your best, this may seem like,”Oh everyone tells me this, why is she telling me this?”.
It allows them to assist others without an expectation of a reward and to have a positive and enthusiastic spirit. I have participated in community service activities such as, assisting the national forest service in removing invasive species of The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, coaching kindergarteners for K-Ball, organizing the blessing box for my church, and assisting with the Reading High School Alumni yearly banquet. Each of these projects has allowed me to help my community in different ways. Removing invasive species in The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem allowed the national forest service to gain more intel on the various species of invasive plants. By helping coach the kindergarteners for K-Ball, I was able to practice another one of my skills being leadership, and teach the kids various skills that they will use not just in sports but hopefully as they go through life.
I certainly do, but service is to be about how you act towards others without gaining anything in return. One way I have done so is by helping at my local food pantry or by volunteering to help set-up and take down tables at Ducks Unlimited Events. Those these events may be small or may come with little to no compensation, I find that the reward is in giving and allowing others to feel safe in taking what you have to offer them. Speaking of safety, have you ever dealt with a rude leader that made you feel your opinion was unsafe. Maybe it was a group project or worse your boss.
Service to me means, giving your all to you school and community without expecting anything in return. At a young age, I participated in many fundraising events with my dance team where we provided a service to others such as annual car washes, waiting tables at various restaurants, and organizing dances and activities for kids. In Junior High I was a key club member and we volunteered for concession stand duties, helped out at elementary basketball tournaments, and acted as line judges or referees at volleyball tournaments. Since my mom is a first grade teacher, I spent many summers setting up and organizing her classroom, and on my days off from school, I provided kids in my mom’s classroom with help in reading or math. As a part of Earth Week at our school, I did various jobs for people in my community.
The first reason why I should be in National Junior Honor Society is because of my leadership skills. The first example of my leadership skills are applied to my youth group in the Cecilton Parish. I am the treasurer and help with the Ideas for fundraising. We, as a group held a spaghetti dinner for the church and I managed the money and the setting. Pursuing this further, I actively show leadership in school.
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. Based upon my last two year at Matawan Regional I now have a 3.9 GPA and am ranked in the top 20% of my graduating class.
Moreover, I have worked very hard throughout high school to better myself and those around me in the many ways mentioned above. I also serve as a role model, both inside the classroom and out, by pushing myself to accomplish goals even I do not always believe I could, always respecting others and listening attentively to the opinions of people around me, and making an effort to enrich the lives of others. I am hopeful the National Honor Society will help me develop this further, and thank you for taking hte time to read my application.
It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
Today I am deeply humbled to be recognized as a potential member of the National Honor Society. To me this means I have exemplified everything you look for in a student who goes above and beyond, not just in academics but in athletics, the community and at home as well. I have not taken this selection for granted, as I believe would be a great asset to the National Honor Society. I am hardworking, honest, reliable and quite charismatic too. I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship.
National Junior Honor Society is the start of everything. This group helps set me up for my years to come. Being in the NJHS it helps me get into the one in high school, which looks really good one college applications. Having national junior honor society for both middle school and high school would give me a better chance to get into a college I really want to get into. I’ve always wanted to be someone who could help or make a change in this world, instead of just trying to get through life easy.
In all, I can say that service learning has helped to shape me into a person that I am today and continues to makes me a better person. Service to me is a way of life and I can't image my life without service. I feel deeply indebted to the people who took the time to help me to grow into the leader I am today. Now I spend my days trying to give back to my community the way someone did for
Since kindergarten, I have been involved in BSA (Boy Scouts of America), which brings much community service with it. The one instance that stands out most in my time in scouts was my eagle project. I chose to benefact a local ministry out of Binghampton that services inner-city youths by refurbishing a basketball court in the backyard of one of the clubhouses. Because it was a herculean task, my inability to delegate tasks was confronted. Seeing the finished product was rewarding; however, the real satisfaction came from the faces of the children who got to use the new court for the first time.
I have learned that even things like feeding someone a light meal or giving them a place to stay, has a dramatic effect on the people you help. Even though I only did a little bit of work, setting up tables and silverware,I think that this experience helped me understand the importance of the values the Gospel encourages. I have seen how the effect of practicing those values helps other people. I think that service experience brought about some justice. Before, the homeless men and women would probably be living on the streets by themselves without anyone to talk to or food
Volunteering has a lasting effect on the community due to the hard work and effort the volunteers put into to completing the task at hand. Howell’s article explains, “Whether it’s the money communities save by the hours volunteers dedicate, the partnerships that bring organizations together, or the much-needed services volunteers provide, community service projects have a measurable impact”. This quote stats that anyone can serve their community anyway a person see fit. Many homes and people’s lives have been effected by natural disasters. The destruction from natural disasters is one of the leading causes for people to help rebuild and help one another out of the goodness of their heart.
