Many other schools think that sports are helpful to a student's academic success and general well being. Despite the fact that some schools are eliminating sports, facts show that sports should stay in public schools. Exercise is known to boost energy and mood. In a mayo Clinic Study, doctors state that “Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed”(Exercise). Having coaches tell the athletes how to prevent injuries is just another lesson to learn. There is not a day in life where there is not a chance of serious injury. Someone can be walking down the street and get hit by a car. Does this make it a good reason to live inside afraid of what could be? Its is good to experience life and if these athletes chose to put themselves out there with the change of getting hurt, it is their decision. The opportunity to be apart of a team should not be taken away because someone wants sports to be banned due to the risk they hold. Also, not all students stray from their schoolwork. Most schools have rules saying athletes who are failing are not eligible. This is an incentive to do well. Most schools have study halls, homework can be done in the time given to them. This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.

Most sports are team sports that also teach your child teamwork. Playing youth sports is a terrific experience for you or your child. It was found that a school called premont in texas cut sports and the students success rate went from only 50 percent of students passing their classes, to 80 percent of them passing in the next semester ( Ripley 10 ). Furthermore, if we don 't do something about our nation 's grades and graduation rates we will soon be in a very serious crisis. With this information in mind, schools around the nation should make a change to help improve the grades of the students. If schools were to dispose of the sports the students would greatly benefit mentally, the district’s profit margin would increase, and the establishment could use the money to improve the structure of the institute.

Frances is a field hockey player for her school team. One day, she got her report card and saw she got a C+ in Spanish. The next day at practice, her coach told her she was off the team--Even though Frances had been trying her best in Spanish. Frances thought this was unfair and ceased putting effort into Spanish. John Witherspoon stated, “You win some, you lose some, but you LIVE, you LIVE to fight another day!” As a fan of football I have to keep this statement in my head. Time after time I would watch CAU get defeated by teams that, but I still had faith that one game we would be victorious. As the season continued I began to start seeing fewer students at the games to support our players, and I began to question my own faith in our team. CAU’s students should support and have faith in CAU’s football team, because a true fan never loses faith in their team, the players work hard and try their best, and CAU is their Alma Mater.
