WWI was one of the most brutal wars. The Western Front campaign overshadows the Gallipoli campaign when considering Australia’s involvement in and commemoration of World War I. Australia had only been a country for less than 13 years before it entered the war. The Western Front campaign took place around Belgium and France on the 1st of July 1916. On that first day there were 57, 470 casualties (troops killed or wounded).
1. Alliiances probably had the biggest impact for the start of World War 1. Without alliances other countries probably wouldn't have gotten involved. 2. Militarism was most likely the second cause of the war.
28th of July, 1914 marked the beginning of one of the most gruesome and brutal events in our history, the First World War. The war led to the deaths of 9 million soldiers in uniform and 10 million innocent civilians. The war would go on and last for 4 years. The war resulted in many empires crumbling while some nations gained power. During the war Australia played a huge part in the defeat of Germany, with over 400,000 Australian soldiers enlisting and going to war.

Causes of World War I World War I was the bar fight of all bar fights and was expected to end quickly. Unfortunately, the treacherous battle field held soldier's longer than expected. At first, Europe had been flourishing with colonies worldwide and had developed in technology greatly.
The Causes of WWI In June 28, 1914 a Serbian nationalist named Gavrilo Princip shot the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, while he was visiting Bosnia. Gavrilo Princip was a young man apart of a nationalist group called the Black Hand. This murder set off a chain reaction that set World War I into motion.

The final factor that influenced the start of WWI was imperialism, the act of collecting colonies for their resources. As fewer areas of the world were left to colonize, countries were competing for existing colonies, and seeking to expand their borders with neighboring nations. Countries started taking interest in the resources in these colonies so by taking the colony first they could extract the resources and sent it back to their own country. Since multiple countries were doing this, it created some tension between each country. During this time european countries sought to acquire land within africa.

Historians have long questioned the absolute cause for this war, having since pinpointed it on the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Furdinand. The Austro-Hungarian government blamed the death of the archduke on Serbian secret society known as the Black Hand. At this time, there was a nationalist movement in Serbia which caused their government to become unstable. Countries began to become influenced by the assassination and the declaration of war on Serbia in 1914.

Germany and several great power went into war which was mainly in Europe due to several reasons, these include Nationalism, imperialism, militarism, alliance system and several major crises and incident that happened during a period. Some believe that the outbreak of the world war one was mainly responsible by the Germans because they did things like start the alliance system and extreme nationalism which made them make an alliance with Austria-Hungary and become a German state.
