Leo Galland says in Huffpost Healthy Living, “ That the number of medication - related death in the U.S. is estimated at over 200,000 a year, making medications the third or fourth leading cause of death in the country (Huffpost Healthy Living Pg. 1)” This means that taking medications is dangerous and another reason why letting the body heal itself will make a difference. This quote is not saying for people to stop taking their medications it 's only warning you like when your parents warn you about the use drugs. According to this evidence, medication is not needed for a simple cold medication is needed for something like internal pain of a
Health care personnel and quality improvement professionals are focusing their attention on identifying factors that are causing high rates of readmissions. This focus is being driven by the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program which was implemented as part of the Affordable Care Act. “Effective October 1, 2012, organizations with high 30-day readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and pneumonia could see their annual hospital Medicare payments reduced by 1%, according to a final rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)”. (Clancey, 2013) Hospital readmissions are an increasing problem in hospitals across the country. Readmissions are not only costly but they jeopardize the health of the elderly who are at risk for loss of function, hospital-acquired infections, and other poor outcomes when hospitalized.
The program has also done a great job highlighting the importance of decreasing infant mortality rates and the number of preterm deliveries. Hence, both of these numbers decreased as well. Healthy People 2020 has made a big impacted on the awareness of preventive care specifically in the area of immunizations, screening for colon cancer, and management of hypertension (Healthy People, 2017). The program provides comprehensive national goals and objectives for improving the health of all Americans over a ten-year period. Each year the progress of each indicator is
These national goals are aimed to encourage good health and prevent disease in an attempt to improve the overall health and wellbeing to all the populations throughout the nation *** * Healthy People 2020 designed a dietary guideline that is proposed for medical professionals and policymakers to help Americans obtain a healthier diet and regular physical activity. These guidelines help provide an adaptable framework of daily nutritional needs so the individual can achieve a healthy lifestyle that can also work with their budget. The national goals that are related to my chosen diagnosis are promotion of health and to decrease chronic disease risk by establishing healthful in order to maintain a healthy body weight (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion [ODPHP],
Some of the most important information that has come from these studies is the information pertaining to an individual’s risk of cardiovascular disease due to diet and lifestyle factors. According to Willett (2015), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among all Americans despite an overall decline in mortality in recent years (p.6). Decades worth of research has allowed healthcare professionals to encourage prevention and promote awareness about the diet and lifestyle factors that research has linked to an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases. This research has also helped to improve prevention, early detection and
positive steps for the future The new report outlines cost effective interventions to assist people living with Parkinson 's to achieve a better quality of life, while simultaneously reducing the cost ofthis condition to the community. It also provides practical strategies for reducing direct health care costs. This includes avoiding unnecessary hospital and aged care admissions, and decreasing lengths of stay and medical specialist consultations. To reduce the costs of Parkinson 's to the community, Parkinson 's Australia the national peak body representing the needs of people living with Parkinson 's, their families and carers is advocating for the Federal and state governments to commit to a National Action Plan. This plan will include:
Dear Editor, there are many reasons why it’s important to get vaccinated. One reason why it’s important to get vaccinated is because vaccines will keep your body healthy. Another reason why it’s important is because you put the health of other people at risk if you get sick. Lastly, it’s important to get vaccinated because you’re putting yourself at the risk of dying if you don’t. Vaccinations will keep your body healthy.
Healthy People 2020 are objectives established nationally to improve the health of all Americans (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2010). The improvement on Adolescent health is a topic addressed by healthy people 2020 that is supported by the work of school nurses. The goal in addressing adolescent health would be to “improve the health development, health, safety, and well-being of adolescents and young adults (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2010).” School nurses contribute to the overall continuation of approving health in adolescents. Specific objectives apart of Healthy People 2020 that school nurse can address include increasing the number of adults in the children lives with who they can discuss serious issues, increasing the number of adolescents that consider school work to be important, and lastly decreasing absenteeism from school due to illness or injury (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2010).
With service to the people in our community we define and practice the kind of person we want to become, and this reflection people will see the good in people naturally. I want to educate staff when someone has a reportable disease it should be reported to Infection Control Nurse, I want to teach nursing staff some of our patients who do not have insurance please send then to the Health Department, it is based on income, and that is for anyone who lives in the community. I would recommend anyone who plans to prepare for a family go to the Health Department for maternal planning the care is exceptional, and every child should have to go through the health department, their examinations is outstanding. It taught me insight of the history of Public health nursing on how far we have conquered obstacles and learned to use critical thinking to adjust to events or situations. The nursing profession is changing so fast and we must go further beyond our means of education to continue to grow as leaders in our community.
Preventative care is a huge benefit of universal health care as people can go for regular checkups at a physician 's office to see if they have any problems. Using the preventative care method we are able to catch diseases in their early stages and eliminate them. This will lead to less major emergencies that will have to be looked at in the hospital reducing the costs greatly. In America preventative care is used way less than it should be due to the cost of insurance, “Nationally, Americans use preventive services at about half the recommended rate” (CDC, 2013). Americans not going in to get checked on regularly can cause small illness or diseases to spread or get larger.
The national initiative stimulates disease prevention and health promotion by creating goals and objectives once they obtain these goals they coordinate them with the preventative health service as well as educational activities in order to help support the public to improve their overall health. • How does it influence health? Healthy People 2020 aims to improve major health issues in many individuals. They not only focus on disease prevention they also focus on emotional, physical, mental and social functioning of each individual. I personally feel that Healthy People 2020 influences health by supporting their prevention and promotion areas with evidence based practice information.
It was introduced after the sudden death and highly increase of diabetics in 2008. The objective for this program is to evaluate the success of this project in prevention of diabetic cases in Rio Grande Valley region. This assessment will also evaluate the intervening variables that confines the scope of program even after sufficient funding from the Health Care Department. Program evaluation and performance metrics for the healthcare emergency awareness segment work together to agree with the strengths and flaws of the program to be evaluated, taking into deliberation for goals of programs, impact of execution, and long-term sustainability. The mission is to prevent of diabetes and its implications through awareness programs, educational system, and early detection through free health
Years of potential life lost is a calculation of the “weighted total of the number of deaths by age, with the weight for each age determined by the particular method of valuing potential remaining years of life (Gardner, J. and Sanborn, J).” In addition, years of potential life lost is used to “emphasize deaths at younger ages (Gardner, J. and Sanborn, J).” According to Changing the U.S. Health Care System, “the two largest contributors to the disproportionately high YPLL rate among African Americans are cancer and heart disease (2014).” Cancer is the most important contributor to YPLL because it is the “second leading cause of death but accounts for the largest YPLL per 100,000 for both males and females (Healthy People
A sitting based approach is more likely to be effective then asking an individual to take responsibility for their own health because a setting based approach allows for Joint achievement between the action areas for example if the local pool owner of Arnhem supported the “healthy heart is a better start program” by reducing prices for students of Shepherdson college, students to be able to access this facility at a cheaper price and therefore strengthening community action and enabling potential prevention of cardio vascular disease. Although there is a possibly of some students not partaking in this sitting based approach to health, the program involves many effective health promotion strategies which gives the students all the resources and support they desire. Sitting based approaches encourage the involvement of everyone this is evident in the “healthy heart is s better start program” as there is a combined school total of scores and if they reach their set goal, rewards are received such as activities and day
The government wanted clean teeth, but instead got disease and death. The government wanted us to remain healthy and have fresh teeth with every drink of water, but we got sick and most had died yet they still continued with the fluoride. The people of America are sometimes too naïve to figure out what the government does to us, and some are actually smart enough to stand up to them and call them out on their mistakes. The main cause of death in America, when it comes to disease, is cancer. It ravages the American landscape and takes thousands of lives a year.
