The first amendment is very important for United State citizens. Freedom of speech is one of the most important rights. Freedom of speech grants us rights to say what we want without getting in trouble with the law. This law is important because it allows us to express our opinions. Freedom of religion is another right that is very important.
Based on the first amendment which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”. We the citizens of the United States have the freedom to choose and practice our religion, freedom of speech, freedom of press and freedom of petition. Although this amendment seems to be beneficial for the general public it actually does more harm than good. I do not believe that there is in fact a such thing as freedom. Freedom means the power to act, speak or think as one warns without hindrance or restraint. In today’s society we don’t not have freedom because of laws.
The first amendment may seem like something that is generally understood among all of those who use it, but this may not be the case. While most citizens of the United States of America would certainly say that they understand and can comprehend what the first amendment means, an underlying lack of knowledge, upon what is presumed to be the most important of all the amendments, can still be discovered. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The specific piece of the first amendment that is particularly important
They stop the national government from interfering with the essential rights and civil liberties of citizens and they also accentuate how limited the national government’s power is. For instance, Amendment I guarantees the freedom of religion, Freedom of speech where the government cannot interfere with people’s personal beliefs. Another common amendment today is the 5th amendment which gives people the right to choose not to testify in court if they feel their own testimony will incriminate them, it also protects citizens from being subject to criminal prosecution and punishment without due process and protects people from being tried for the same case twice. Government’s power is limited through the bill of rights through the 3rd amendment which requires the owner’s consent when it comes to housing troops in their private homes which was something that was problematic during the American Revolutionary war. The Bill of Rights were added to the constitution due to the fact that citizens were unhappy because the constitution did not list the basic civil liberties of citizen’s and their individual freedoms.
Ratified December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights was created to ensure the safety of citizens rights across the United States. The Bill of Rights acted as a compromise between the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists, which would then lead to the authorization of the Bill of Rights. If it wasn’t for the Anti-Federalists demand for a Bill of Rights, it would’ve never been added to the Constitution, which would most likely lead to another abusive and corrupt central government. One very significant right listed in the Bill of Rights is Freedom of Religion, This right is critical to America because for some people religion is their gateway to happiness or is the basis of their life. According to The Debates in the Several States Convention on the
The Importance of the 1st Amendment In 1787 our founding fathers assembled the constitution of the United States of America. Of this which contains the most important document to the American citizen, the Bill of rights. The first Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” These freedoms granted by the Bill of Rights are often known as freedom of expression. These rights are most important to a truly free society. The first amendment provides us with new ideas and dismisses the fear of punishment
The most important thing is that it simply provides citizens with the framework for our criminal legal systems. This Amendment is very important because it states American Citizens’ rights and what they are upheld to follow when they have been accused of a crime. This Amendment also prevents a defendant from sitting in prison longer than they are going to have too, which are using up other American tax dollars. I like this Amendment because it is impartial and without delay (unless for necessary reasoning). It does not give too much power to the jury nor the defendant.
The fact the founding fathers of the United States, risked their lives traveling on a dangerous journey in a hope of finding a place where they can express themselves freely without any punishment indicates how valuable this Amendment is and it is sad that it is not
This is a negative right, since it prohibits something rather than entitles it. Under this clause, the U.S. government is prohibited from establishing one religion above others. This is usually interpreted to mean that the Founding Fathers were trying to avoid the imposition of a 'state religion. ' Just like the Free Exercise Clause, though, there are times when it seems that religion and government can 't get out of each other 's way. Fortunately, the Constitution includes a process for resolving these questions: the U.S.
A Constitutional Perspective on The Preservation of Liberty To establish which amendment in the Bill of Rights is the most influential to the preservation of liberty, one must first determine the true meaning of the word liberty. The Oxford dictionary defines liberty as “The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behaviour, or political views.” Not only is this one of the core values ingrained into the base of our American culture, but it is also one of the main characteristics of a successful community (“First Amendment.”) Many societies argue that citizens do not have basic rights, the first amendment does the best job at protecting the nation's rights from the government by giving individuals freedom of speech, religion, and freedom of petition. The First Amendment has five freedoms guaranteed for the American people’s such as the right to religion, speech, and petition.
The 1st amendment is fundamental in a democracy, it gives each individual their opinion about a certain subject and gives the people the "power" to speak out when they find something wrong. For example, they can speak what they find wrong with our Representatives, without the retaliation or censorship of the government. You might think that you can go down the street and say whatever you like without anybody telling you can't. Hold your horse right there be aware that you can say what you want but there is certain things that the 1st amendment doesn't cover. The Supreme Court has some cases where it decided where the 1st amendment was appropriate and where it wasn't.
It also gives us the freedom of religion where different religions are allowed to practice in the United States and not be frowned upon and it gives us the right to assemble and petition the government if needed when the government isn’t doing what it is supposed to. 13. Is the Constitution still important to our nation? Why or why not? (2 points)
There are many views and opinions of the state of the United States on this subject. It has long been a puzzling issue that never seems to seize. America should have religious freedom, because it is a constitutional right to Americans. Prayer in school, gay marriage, and governmental control, are among some of the main issues in this topic.
