This is a difficult question to answer. I can recall being spanked as a child and think it was appropriate for my parents to do, especially in situations where it was for my own benefit. However, I think I would not use this as a form of discipline or parenting myself. The “Spanking” law is ambiguous in which there is no clarity on what permissible corporal punishment is and what child abuse is. This uncertainty can turn harsh for some, as seen in the case of children living at a religious commune on Prince Edward Island who were regularly beaten to keep them from siding with the devil.
