By definition, a family is a group of people who are related to each other by blood. But a family is so much more than that. A family is people who you love more than yourself. A family is a group of people who eats dinner together every night. A family is people who you would travel an eternity for, just to be with them one more time. Odysseus from Homer’s The Odyssey leaves his home and family in Ithaca to fight Troy. However, his journey home is challenged by the Gods and turns into a perilous adventure where all Odysseus wants is to see his family again. However, in order to do so, h emits conquer many almost insurmountable tasks which could only be achieved by his immense love for his family and homeland. In Homer’s The Odyssey, Odysseus returns home out of loyalty to his family because he continuously thought of them, even when he had the chance to remain in paradise forever or just give up. Throughout Odysseus’ journey, he constantly thinks about his family and mourns his loss of them. After leaving Circe’s Island, Odysseus lands his ship on The Land Of The Dead in search of Tiresias, who, according to Circe, will tell Odysseus his destiny. While in The Land Of the Dead, Odysseus comes across his friend Elpenor, who reminds Odysseus of his family back home. As Elpenor and Odysseus talk, Elpenor remorsefully reminds Odysseus, “Now hear the grace I pray for, up in the name of those back in the world, not here- your wife and father, he who gave you bread in childhood,
