In the book The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, August and Rosaleen are extremely different in their upbringing and the way it affects them. Due to the knowledge she gained growing up, August is “so intelligent, so cultured” (78), while Rosaleen’s limited education makes it so she could “get some manners” (75).
