Before the start of this class, the pursuit of the triple aim within the context of a smaller health system has been somewhat elusive for me. However, this semester’s class has provided me with fresh perspectives and practical ideas on incorporating the principles of the triple aim into a smaller organization.
The practice I work for has a one hundred year history of providing patient care in a community-based setting and over the course of this one hundred years, our organization has learned to flex and change with the times. The current climate in health care represents another cycle of change for our group.
The financial state of our group is consistent with many other healthcare organizations. Specifically, we are experiencing flat or
In the film Escape Fire the Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, there were many insightful examples of why our Unites States healthcare revolves around paying more and getting less. The system is designed to treat diseases rather than preventing them and promoting wellness. In our healthcare industry, there are many different contributors that provide and make up our system. These intermediaries include suppliers, manufacturers, consumers, patients, providers, policy and regulations. All these members have a key role in the functionality of the health care industry; however, each role has its positives and negatives.
We continuously strive to improve the health of the community we serve and become the provider of choice for Health Care delivery and education" (Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, 2012). The biggest gripe that anyone should have with this is just how generic it sounds. This mission statement does nothing to make this organization stand out from any other ones in the area. On top of this, there was no vision statement to be found. Even though it does mention is it a safety net hospital, there a good chance that the people they serve would not understand what this means, It is something that needs to be stated in plain terms.
Also, it is important within the medical industry to have a tenacious program planning system. As a result, well-organized services are effective and dictate how information is gathered, how the information is measured, and lastly how one-to-one care is given. Lastly, managers will be held to the highest standards and the results will make a significant difference to Veterans and eligible beneficiaries. The Saint Leo core values of excellence co-inside with Veterans Health Administration’s social, economic, and political views collectively working hard to up-hold their promise to the mission, vision, and goals of the industry and to those we serve. The mission statement for my current place of employment is “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. In recognition of this commitment, we will strive to deliver high quality, cost-effective healthcare in the communities we serve.” Within the facility mission statement there are also 4 value statements that sets the foundation for the mission statement. These 4 value statements are: 1.
Medical Group Practice Models There are four main models of medical group practice. These are Highly Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). All these models have a common goal of improving care accessibility and affordability but they achieve this objective by the use of different strategies that control utilization of health care services. PPOs are the least restrictive model because it gives the member the freedom to choose preferred health care provider but is also the most expensive model. On the other hand, HMOs model is highly controlled by physicians and thus are the least cost model.
The continuum of care is a range of programs of health care services broken down into three levels. This continuum focuses on matching a patients need with the proper area of needed service. The three levels are primary, secondary ,and tertiary care. There is also an extension of tertiary care called Quaternary care as well. The primary care level of service focuses on a general health provider who will help examine the patient and if need be refer them to a specialist for further evaluation.
The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin philosophy are behaviors that “act with a purpose, collaboration, health, integrity and innovation” (Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin). The intended
Given the pressure surrounding service delivery in the healthcare organizations, the board of members and senior administrators are seeking practical ways of refining the way they set priorities under resource constraints versus the increasing demand. The ethical challenges surrounding the practice environment pose weighty concerns among the healthcare leaders on effective decision-making principles and approaches that could help them in setting priorities. Accordingly, strategic planning plays a critical role in healthcare organizations. Perera and Peiró (2012) consider strategic planning as an entirely valid and valuable tool that guides organizational practices. The process needs to be programmable, rational, systematic, holistic and integrates short, medium, and long-term aspects to help healthcare organizations to focus on the relevant enduring transformation for the future (Perera & Peiró, 2012).
The four spheres of political action in nursing are government, workplace, professional organizations, and community. They are all interrelated and interconnected. The government enacts policies that govern and affect all spheres. Healthcare policies are often made to ensure access, quality, and affordability of care. It determines the scope of nursing practice at a state level.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital has a current mission and vision statement, along with a group of core values with an emphasis on being a leader for improving the health of children. The current mission and vision statements are well formulated. Yet, there is room for improvement. By expanding the mission to incorporate reaching a global pediatric population through invaluable research, education, collaborative efforts and community involvement, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital vocalizes the intent to improve pediatric health on a broad scale through work accomplished by the institution. In addition, changing the vision statement from the present wording allows for a dynamic change from a statement conveying a desire to lead versus a statement
For instance, optimize cost and clinical outcomes, and for a hospital and physician to work under a cohesive structure. Now we will discuss the
How do you believe your current or a past organization follows or strays from Sinek’s approach to why, how, and what? “We are a distinguished leader and innovator in the education and development of the next generation of physicians, scientists, pharmacists and health professionals; we discover and translate new knowledge in the biomedical and health sciences; we provide cutting-edge, collaborative patient care of the highest quality; and we improve the health of the communities we serve.” MCW In my opinion MCW follows Sinek’s approach to why, how, and what. The mission statement reveals why the organization exists—to educate and development the next generation of healthcare professionals by translating new knowledge to improve
Previously, majority of healthcare systems were driven by other goals such as ensuring enhanced care access, containing the costs of healthcare delivery, and promoting patient convenience/customer service in a bid to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare. However, the financial collapse had far-reaching consequences for the healthcare systems as it
A health triangle is the representation of the three elements of health, and they’re physical, mental/emotional, and social health. Both you and a teenager can improve and have a healthy/balanced triangle by taking care of those three elements. Some ways to do that is doing physical/mental/social activities such as running, hanging out with friends and family, and even doing puzzles. It is important to have a health triangle—especially a balanced one—because it can make you physically fit and healthy, it can improve your mental/emotional health, and improve your social life.
