Voltaire once said that “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you can't criticize”. The government in the novel is finding more ways to limit the power people have by restricting what they can read and watch. Ray Bradbury’s, Fahrenheit 451 is a literary work that greatly presents the ways that government is censoring society in the novel. His novel, written in 1953, takes place in Los Angeles, California. It was meant to expose the censorship during the time period. His novel explains that the job of the local fireman was not to put out a fire but instead initiate them. Bradbury throws simple objects or action done by the character that shows government involvement. First, the reader can acknowledge the plainest symbols of censorship through the burning of books. Bradbury initiated his novel by stating, “ it was a pleasure to burn”( Bradbury 1). That statement is basically announcing that fireman takes proud and what they do. Enormous amounts even get an adrenaline from burning books. Secondly, demonstrating the use of symbols to show censorship is the use of television. Television seems to play a big part of daily life in the society the novel took place. The author emphasizes that “The characters became obsessed with the television. Some trusting what their television families were saying more so than their real families”(“ Censoring the pages of knowledge”). The television is the novel cover whole walls in the homes of the characters. Montag television covers three entire walls in his house. Mildred his spouse is trying to encourage him to cover the fourth wall. If civilian are not watching new about war then it a tv show called the family. The Family became of people everyday life. The show has reached the point where people completely ignorant of the world around them and their responsibilities. Finally, another symbol that is specified in this novel is the use of the snake. The snake is a device used to pump citizen stomach in case of attempt of overdose or any abuse of any other substances. In the case of Mildred when Montag had to call emergency because she overdoses on sleeping pills. The process involved pumping the blood out of the person and install administered blood in them.a very reliable source goes on and states that “Her poisoned, replaceable blood signifies the empty lifelessness of Mildred and the countless others like her”(). These people don't have any say over there life
