One similarity between NPs, other APNs and PAs is that, they all play a very important role in health care and patient centered approach of care is their objective. Also, their practice is based upon their education, training and certification in collaboration and under supervision of physicians. The last past eight weeks have provided an opportunity to achieve several program outcomes that will prepare me as my role of nurse practitioner. This course NR 602 has provided me with an opportunity to meet the MSN program outcome #6, the MSN Essential VII, and the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies # 8. These program outcomes will institute a base upon which care can be delivered with quality. Program outcome # 6 examined ways to apply legal, ethical and human caring principles to situations in advanced practice nursing. There were several case studies that afforded a chance to implement this outcome.
In this discussion, I will be identifying the nine provisions of the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses. Furthermore, I will describe each provision in my own words. According to the American Nurses Association (2015), the Code of Ethics was established to be a guide for “carrying out nursing responsibilities in a manner consistent with quality in nursing care and the ethical obligations of the profession”. In my own words, I believe that the ANA Code of Ethics can be described as an ethical network of values and obligations that nurses must abide by to protect the public and produce the best quality care. In total, there are nine provisions found within the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses.
Recently the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) became a very important profession due to the major changes in the healthcare system and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) goals that focus on providing patients with affordable but quality care, improving patient health outcomes, expanding care to the underserved areas, and lowering the costs. It became apparent that over the years nurses played an important role in healthcare system. High-quality patient care relies on having a well-educated nursing workforce. Research has shown that lower mortality rates, fewer medication errors, and positive outcomes are all associated to nurses prepared at the baccalaureate and graduate degree levels (American Association of Colleges of Nursing | Creating a More ... n.d.). In a study, researchers found that A 10% increase in the proportion of nurses holding BSN degrees decreased the risk of patient death and failure to rescue by 5%.
The purpose of the NLN is to support the education of nurses, provide testing services and grants for research, all with the purpose of achieving excellence in nursing (National League for Nursing [NLN], 2013). This organization impacts nursing by supporting nurse education in the development of nursing faculty. Additionally, they encourage research to advance nursing education through evidence-based teaching practices, and the instruction of nurses (NLN, 2013). The NLN role in Nursing Excellence is to influence public policy on nursing by providing backing for education with the expectation of excellence through growth, improvement, and understanding (NLN, 2013). Working with state office leadership to develop policies and procedures based on evidenced based practices is crucial to the health of the public. The director attends county board of health meetings to professionally represent nursing and converse with board members to identify interventions to assist with addressing the needs of their community. These responsibilities highlight the need for all public health nurses, especially those in leadership roles, to have a BSN degree. As pointed out, the opportunities for a nurse transitioning from an AD position to a BSN position are diverse and endless. Patients, healthcare facilities and the nursing profession benefit from advanced degree nurses.

Safe practice involves many different aspects, such as the patient’s comfort, pain level, physical health, mental health, psychosocial needs, and that all their possessions are accounted for.
APRN Advisory Committee suggested a APRN Consensus Model. According to this committee, many benefits are attainable with the APRNs Consensus Model. There will be consistency in the scope of practice across all the states. Future APRNs would have confidence in the quality of education programs. Board of Nursing would be able to meet equal requirements and able to ensure public protection.

Since its founding, its membership has grow from less than twenty nurses to millions and has become a leading organization in the advancement of the nursing practice and improvement of quality health care.
