Love is a universal language, and is recognized everywhere on Earth. When looking at love and all that is encompasses, it is hard for there to be one main definition of love. Edna St. Vincent Millay depicts love as something that will not last forever, and that one could fall-out of love. Love is an esoteric word, but one that people also use to mean all sorts of off-hand things.” While Morrie and Betty discuss their marriage they reiterate that it was not smooth sailing, and that they had times where they were angry at one another. Though, they stayed the course saying, “Just don’t let every complaint turn to anger. Tolerance and respect.” This couple shows that love can last forever, and through caring for one another they have found that they wouldn’t want to spend their life with anyone else. The concept behind ever-lasting love is complex; however, understanding what love is through real-life relationships can lead to the solution of obtaining long-lasting love. Millay was mistaken when she described love as a pretense, and was not willing to fight for her love. Although divorce is prevalent in our society, the ideas that love ends are completely and utterly fabricated. Love has last forever, and it always will, no matter if one is hurt or deceived the feeling of love is much stronger. Edna St. Vincent Millay, once said, “Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling in at night. I miss you like hell.” Even Millay herself cannot deny that her love for
The movie called “moonstruck” is a romantic comedy movie, which is about thirty-seven year old woman, Loretta, who will get married Johnny in a month, but unexpectedly falls in love with his young brother Ronny. After I saw this movie, I felt “love” is the greatest feeling in the world. I remember vividly what she said to her parents when they were reluctant about her marriage. She said to her parents that she doesn’t love Johnny, but she likes him and she thought that she could live happily without love. But then she realized when she fell in love with Ronny that she couldn’t get married without love.

It is evident that marriage is full of ups and downs, but the way couples manage these fluctuations in their relationship determines the strength of their connection. Both partners in a committed relationship must feel the same way and work equally as hard to push through potential obstacles. Being devoted to the relationship can ensure that the marriage will be able to survive the hardships and maintain a healthy, successful marriage. The emotional hardships and positives that a married couple endures on a daily basis are presented throughout the entirety of the poem, “Marriage”, by Gregory Corso. Corso’s poem explores the pressures and factors that influence marriage and sheds light on Updike’s short story about a couple facing divorce.
Frank Tebbets once said, “A life without love in it is like a heap of ashes upon a deserted hearth, with the fire dead, the laughter stilled and the light extinguished.” Love is essential for human beings to live a fulfilled and happy life. Love or the

Love is unconditionally caring about someone else that you care more about yourself. Love may give us joy, and happiness, but it also brings the worse out in us. In Celeste Rita Baker’s short story Jumbie from Bordeaux, the author presents love and the price paid for love through the indirect characterization of Jumbie, his aunt, and parents. In the story the author uses courage to show the love that Jumbie had for his parents. For example, when Jumbie witnesses the harsh beating of his parents, he immediately jumps in to interfere, by attacking the master.

We live in a society that has increasingly demoralizes love, depicting it as cruel, superficial and full of complications. Nowadays it is easy for people to claim that they are in love, even when their actions say otherwise, and it is just as easy to claim that they are not when they indeed are. Real love is difficult to find and keeping it alive is even harder, especially when one must overcome their own anxieties and uncertainties to embrace its presence. This is the main theme depicted in Russell Banks’ short story “Sarah Cole: A Type of Love Story,” as well as in Richard Bausch’s “The Fireman’s Wife.” These narratives, although similar in some ways, are completely different types of love stories.
Romance comes in all different forms and sizes, and Calbert understands that along with these she apprends why people fall in and out of love. Falling in love has a sense of vulnerability that requires taking risks that people are “willing to fail, / why we will still let ourselves fall in love,” in order to sustain real love. Calbert ends her poem with listing the romances with her husband and vows, “knowing nothing other than [their] love” because that is all that matters to her
Marriage is often much more complex than what people envision, as many factors play roles in ensuring it will last. In Zora Neale Hurston’s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Hurston portrays the story of a young African-American girl named Janie whose Grandma marries her off to Logan Killicks, a man she does not love. Yearning for real love, Janie runs away and marries a promising rich man named Joe Starks, only to discover that there is once again a lack of affection. After enduring almost twenty years of a hollow relationship, Janie’s second husband passes away, and by chance she meets the love of her life; a young man known as Tea Cake. However, this happiness is short-lived as she is ridiculed for being with a younger man, whom not too

People do not consider reasons outside the obvious. However, there are many hidden motives that cause people t love one another. The short story “What We Talk about When We Talk about Love” by Raymond Carver is about four friends- Laura, Mel, Nick, and Terri, gathering on a table and having a conversation. As they start to drink, the subject abruptly comes to “love.” Then, the main topic of their conversation becomes to find the definition of love, in other word to define what exactly love means. However, at the end, they cannot find out the definition of love even though they talk on the subject for a day long. Raymond Carver in “What We Talk about When We Talk about Love” illustrates the difficulty of defining love by using symbols such as heart, gin, and the sunlight.
Whenever I hear someone say, “Oh, he’s in love with her” or “She can’t get over her love for him” I always have a mixed feeling. I usually react this way because of the people themselves and how they are experiencing it, but I never even think about the word love and its meaning. Actually I only started to ponder about the meaning and how everyone else preserves love. Living in this world, we read and watch romantic stories of how people fall in love with each other. We all know the concept of romance.
"Love is when your puppy licks your face even when you've left it alone all day. How beautiful, is not it? We can see that in order to define love, it would be to limit it too much, to do the greatest, the smallest. There is love of all kinds: from parents, siblings, friends, couples, love, etc ... However, until now many think nothing more in love as the feeling pink, when this same feeling can be the hardest to carry, even to situations already almost heroic.
