The individual who involves in making the craft is know as artisan or craftsman. The crafts are the portrait of their surrounding region. These are the products inspired by their cultural values and environment. The colours, designs and pattern used to make a particular crafts is depicting its environment. The craftsman tries to incorporate the scenic beauty and colours of the region where he is living in the craft he makes. Mostly women craft their love to their families in their craft they are making. The handicrafts are the pride of every nation. They reflects the culture and lifestyles of the places. Some crafts show the mix culture of different regions. Handicrafts expresses the sheer love of a craftsman towards its crafts and the place where he lives. It is the combination of skills, love, culture and attachment towards the region. Richard Sennett says in his book, The Craftsman: “The emotional rewards craftsmanship holds out for attaining skill are two fold: people are anchored in tangible reality and they can take pride in their work.” These handicrafts passes from generation to generations as a precious and valuable heritage and asset of that family or tribe. Crafts are of two types: Tangible and Intangible. Tangible crafts are the crafts which can be touched and feel. Pakistan is a country which is rich in handicrafts and some crafts belongs to this region from before the existence of Pakistan. Theses crafts were once the identity of Pakistani culture and the source of livelihood for the craftsman. It was the source of bonding between the people and brought them near to each other. But unfortunately with the rise in industrialization these crafts started to fade and people now attracted more towards the mass produced products available in the market. Industrialization is one of the main factor of the decline of crafts industry. People are working day and night so that they could buy those luxuries available in the market. But nobody bothers to buy the art pieces of these hardworking craftsman. The reasons behind this are the availability of mass production products, secondly the lack of education of craftsman, thirdly lack of design and color sense, the taste of people have changed with the time, the artisans refused to learn the new techniques, some have abandoned their crafts because of having no value and not having any financial benefit in it. The children of the craftsmen also refuses to learn the skills because of having no value. Most of the crafts are dying which once were the identity of Pakistan. They are living below the poverty line which rises the suicide and death rates, and poverty rate has also been
The neighborhood they live in is dangerous: it is just recovering from a cocaine epidemic; there’s no reliable public transportation; and their mother calls her young children “sluts and whores.” She does not work and relies on her five kids for welfare checks that pay for rent, food, and
Study of Hawaiian Fish by Hubert Vos was created in 1898. It is an oil on canvas, seventeenth century style Dutch still-life painting that depicts a elderly Hawaiian fisherman emptying a lauhala basket filled with bountiful catch of fifty-seven varieties of fish native to Hawaiian waters, carefully rendered from sketches of fish commonly displayed in the Honolulu Fish market, on a marble slab.1 I propose that this is work is a piece of art Hawaiian art because it portrays the ancient Hawaiian art of fishing, displays staple native fish that were important to the diet of ancient Hawaiians along with the ancient art of lauhala basket weaving . The reason why I chose this specific piece of art to write about is because it caught
The fur industry was pivotal for the imperialist powers of the 1600’s. The gain of this luxurious industry ultimately meant wealth and power. This trade industry alters Canada immensely. The trading post known as York Factory and Moose Factory sought native people to travel vastly collecting furs and pelts. Ultimately this altered their conventual nomadic movements.
The textile factories were an unsafe and unheathly place for working class families to work. These factories were unsafe for children to work because the factories would over work the children, give them a insuffient diet and the factories were filled with diseases. For example a testimony from Joesph Hebergram to the Sadler committee he said; ‘i have damged lunges. my lgs muscles do not function properly and will not support the weight of my bones... the doctor told me that it was caused by dust in the factory, from being over worked and a insufficient diet.
The intriguing texts, “My Mother Pieced Quilts” by Teresa Palomo Acosta, and “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker contain two main ideas that explain how everyone’s culture has a direct influence on the way that we view the world. In other words, each of our backgrounds are full of experiences and knowledge, and we use what we know in every aspect in life. Specifically, Acosta expressed in her poem, “... how the thread darted in and out / galloping along the frayed edges, tucking them in / as you did us at night.” This passage is suggesting when the author remembers her mother mother making quilts, she remembers the memories that she associated with the quilts, making the quilts have a special meaning to her and her culture growing up. Additionally, Walker had a similar idea in her narrative about quilts but she includes another example where she writes,”...

It is noteworthy that although elites did have more and finer collection of foreign goods in their houses, they didn’t have exclusive access to any particular kind of artifact(Smith 2005, 94). As for craft production,
Their lack of adequate housing leads to larger damages or even complete losses of housing, leading them to rely on disaster funding and resources which a lot of the time is underfunded, sub-par and inadequate to provide them with long term resources to get them back on their
Daily quilts, pieced wholes without a defined pattern had a direct address to women who were considered as Alien due to their endless fashionable desires. Sculpting, weaving, shaping so as to create multi-colored and short-lived array paramount in leading to the emergence of unsettledness or rather peace and harmony. Such doings or activities saw the need to apply some or the needed survival tactics. Crafted wares, tattered clothes, and patchwork coverlet had the basics to
The first craft was symbolism that represents how the roses were the main symbol in the story as a connection between Miss Strangeworth and the people. Another craft was revealing actions from taking a statement that when Miss Strangeworth treats her “roses” cruelly, she will soon get that back. Finally, the third author’s craft was inner thinking from taking what Miss Strangeworth says about the people and how she is trying to get rid of their evil. Jackson restates all of those crafts many times throughout the story showing how the people used to be Miss Strangeworth’s
Not all artists were pro’s. Ordinary people produced different kinds of things, men carved weather vanes and hunting decoys, women sewed spare bits of cloth into quilts. Artist portrayed aspects of nature, Native Americans, birds, and
In “The Inheritance of Tools” Scott Russell Sanders recounts his memories of his deceased father. Because most of his memories of his father center on carpentry, Sanders talks frequently about the carpentry tools that were passed from Sanders’s grandfather, to Sanders’s father, to Sanders himself (par. 2). Throughout the essay, Sanders uses the passing down of carpentry tools from generation to generation to symbolize the passing down of tools for life: passions, knowledge, life lessons, memories, and values. With the tools comes the knowledge of how to use them and the passion to do so.
There were also other many jobs such as people who were tradesmen. Such as a potter, shoemaker, and a candle maker. All of these jobs people had to worked with by using their hands. A potter was a man who made pots for cooking to serve his or her’s peopeand on top of that he also sculpted.

Arts and crafts are often thought of today as something that only children partake in. They can easily be done with your hands and are small hobbies. To people in the late 19th century, arts and crafts were about connecting to your surroundings rather than just filling the time. The arts and crafts movement began a revolution of people who sought to use their hands rather than big machinery to create something. Through meaningful interactions with their materials, people who partook in these activities gained meaningful insights.
