The Tragedy of Macbeth is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare in 1606. The play shows the physical and psychological effects of a person who seeks power for themselves. The play is a tragic tale about a Scottish general and Thane of Glamis named Macbeth. He is a brave Thane and a powerful man that led King Duncan’s forces to victory. In the beginning of the poem, a group of three witches arrive to Macbeth to tell them their prophecy that he will become Thane of Cawdor and one day become King of Scotland. After hearing this prophecy his wife, Lady Macbeth, a very strong and ruthless woman, encourages him to kill King Duncan. Macbeth was a very selfish man, who only thought about himself. He was very interested when the witches told thiem about how they predict he will be king. Since then he was concerned that someone was going to take his position in becoming King of Scotland. Once the witches told him their prediction all he could think about was being king, which lead him to being so paranoid and feeling so guilty about the murders he committed. His desires are evil. Macbeth gradually becomes plagued by intense guilt as his desire for power drives him to attain his goals by any means necessary, including committing murder. Lastly, Lady Macbeth is one of the causes of Macbeth’s failure because she repeatedly questions Macbeth’s manhood until she persuades him to make a bad choice. “When you durst do it then you were a man” (1.7.53-58).
King Duncan was a mighty king indeed, who enjoyed his kingdom and his people. The book Macbeth portrays Duncan as a loving king and a good guy who still loved war. “See, see, our honour'd hostess /The love that follows us sometime is our trouble,/Which still we thank as love.(I.vi.13-15) a great king know his ways with words. Yet king Duncan wanted lands and victory ordered his loyal soldier Macbeth to bring the head of the rival king instead getting his own dirty, “What bloody man is that? This consisted of killing off innocent people, in his eyes. Not only did he bring himself down with his thoughts, but also had his wife plot with him. She may have encouraged him at times, but it was a group effort, and a ruthless one at that. Macbeth’s lack of thinking before he acted caused me excessive anger.
