King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, he talks about his dreams of how the world should be which is peaceful, desegregated, and accepting. Dr. King uses potent words to get the point across that white people and black people should be able to live in peace and harmony. “One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination.” These were the words Dr. King chose to use in paragraph 3 of his speech, and the words such as ‘manacles of segregation” and “chains of discrimination” were words that touched the listeners and influenced them to want to make a great change but in a more peaceful manner. In Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, he does not just use logic, he also uses emotion. When King was giving his speech, not a lot of people were there to hear him in person. King’s speech was not extremely famous when he first gave it; it was not until later that it became known. If he were to just use one, logic or emotion, people would listen but not continue supporting him for long. When using logic and emotion people, will hear him out and understand he means what he says and that he has examples to back up what he includes in his speech.
Therefore this makes people see racism in a whole new light; racism has not been justified because the United States have failed to uphold their promises. Kings goes on to say how racial equality can not be achieved until “...justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream” (King). He deliberately tries to make the audience feel as if racial segregation is both wrong and against basic morals. Martin Luther King’s most famous speech, “I Have a Dream” was the changing point for racism in America. It managed to inspire a generation of blacks to never give up and made thousands of white Americans feel ashamed of their actions.
