The story of Romeo and Juliet is terrible play, and a terrible love story that should not be taught in our schools today. This story is a bad reference to what today would be called a modern day love story. Teaching this in schools can implant a negative idea into the minds of the ambitious students who read it. Kids now a days would be much better off not knowing the heinous story of how the two "lovers" came to
The play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare has been taught in school for many years now. Some say that we should continue to allow our teens to read this tragic love story, while many argue that this play should no longer be allowed in schools. The issues concerning this tragic love story are the inappropriate jokes, the unrealistic view of love, and the promotion of suicide. These issues will indeed prove why Romeo and Juliet is ill suited to be taught to freshmen. Ninth graders should no longer read Romeo and Juliet because it is has very inappropriate jokes that should not be associated with school.
Romeo and Juliet; to be or not to be taught in school Romeo and Juliet is the familiar tragedy about two fitfully star-crossed lovers who will do most anything to stay together. It’s a story teens in that same age group can relate to when it comes to infatuation and or rebelling nature. In this essay I will be explicating whether the chronicle should or should not be taught in school. I see no way for Romeo and Juliet to be an irrelevant tale of woe, it has to much to relate towards. Though Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy about the two wealthiest families in Verona (the Capulets and the Montagues,) who’ve had a long history of bad blood, the Capulets parent
Does learning about shakespeare matter in today's curriculum. William Shakespeare is a poet who writes poems mostly about being passionate. His poems were mostly sonnets. One of his most famous poems is Romeo & Juliet, where 2 young teenagers fall in love, and marry each other just to kill themselves in spite of their love for each other. I believe Shakespeare should still taught in the 9th grade curriculum because it teaches kids about love and how to tell if you're truly in love.
This activity combines an analysis of Romeo and Juliet with external research queries that support conclusions made about the text. Rather than focus merely on the study of literature, it allows students to gather evidence from cross-disciplinary research. This is a project that students complete across our Romeo and Juliet unit. They are introduced to the project before we begin reading, and they have inquiry notebook entries due each week while they are reading. After we finish reading the text, students begin working on their makerspace project presentations.
Reading Romeo and Juliet may further the understanding as to why teens act a certain way and what is going on inside their brain during these awkward years. Although the characters in the play are from several years back, they still portray the certain characteristics
First, Romeo acts on how he’s feeling at that moment. Then, Juliet is so self-conscious that she threatens to kill herself over a guy she barely knows and just met. Finally, they both take an irrational risk by going behind their parents backing by getting married, knowing the consequences. Adolescent brain development is explaining the way adolescents brains work and develop, “Romeo and Juliet” is just an example of how adolescent brain works and some of the things that it may
Should Shakespeare be taught ? Do you think Shakespeare be taught in school? Shakespeare should not be taught in 9th grade. William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet should not be included in the ninth grade curriculum because it is very hard to understand and not many students may like his plays.
Finally, the Bard of Avon shouldn’t be taught in classes because it’s difficult for students to understand, his work is not culturally diverse, and is outdated for today’s students. Of course though some people would disagree and say that Shakespeare should continue on being taught in class because “Shakespeare is truly a writer for for the whole world” (378). Yes, he may be a great writer but classrooms everywhere so diverse culturally this generation. Dana Dusbiber a english teacher from Sacramento who refuses to teach Shakespeare to her students said “I do not believe that a long-dead, British guy is the only writer who can teach my students about the human condition” ( Bradford Thomas). A dead 400 year guy year old guy shouldn’t be the only one who teaches students of today’s generation the values of love, war, and life.
The topic of parenting is related in both Romeo and Juliet and modern society because parents often control their children. However, the topic of parenting in Romeo and Juliet emphasizes a forced marriage, whereas modern society focuses on driving control of teens. Shakespeare and modern society both address the topic of parenting through controlling
When being in high school students are required to read books and novels assigned by their English teachers or any other teacher that gives them a book to read. Although there are many great books and novels that should be read before they leave high school, there is one novel that everyone should read before they leave which is the tragic love story of Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is a very interesting novel to read because the person reading this novel gets to read about these two young lovers that come from a family who both despise each other. These two young lovers had many obstacles that interfered with their relationship that caused many problems in their relationship, family, and to themselves. This novel
I believe Shakespeare should not be taught in 9th grade because it is far too complex for a fourteen or fifteen year old to understand. Shakespeare uses language that is far too inapropiate for a teenager to be hearing. Shakespeare uses language that is very controversial and teachers should not expect a freshman in high school to understand something so complex like Shakespeare. He talks about topics like gun violence, racism, and freedom.
From the study of Romeo and Juliet students can learn skills like knowing how to work out what a difficult word means based on the context that will be beneficial in the future. Overall learning these life lessons from Romeo and Juliet can most definitely help with decision making and mistakes. There is no doubt that the play should continue to stay in the curriculum, as it has been done for many years
Romeo and Juliet represents two families of similar social economic status and wealth but are in an interpersonal conflict between a flourishing love and a gory family feud. Juliet immensely changes during the course of the movie from a young girl to a mature young lady because she must deal with a forced marriage, abusive parents, and the banishment of Romeo. However, Romeo is a flat character focusing more on love than understanding the seriousness of the feud. When the two beloved children die, the dynamic changes as both families have empathy towards each other, therefore peace emerges from the tragic loss. Romeo and Juliet, the star-crossed lovers are very relatable and that is why we still read and watch his play four-hundred years
William Shakespeare was a brilliant writer for his time, he created the Shakespearean Sonnet, created over 1700 new words to the english dictionary. He was a very talented poet and playwright. Yet, should we force students to read and watch Shakespeare as part of the curriculum? No, we should not force them in or out of class to read Shakespeare. Shakespeare is not interesting to students, the language he uses is not applicable to today, and reading is not Shakespeare’s intention for his plays and poems.
