Poe is thought to be one of the most successful writers of horror. This is right in terms of his stories that he had written. The best examples could be “The Cask of Amontillado and “The Tell Tale Heart”. These stories were written in the view of murderers and are first person-limited. And these stories have both similarities and differences by means of themes, motifs, symbolism. These stories are very successful to create a good in the audience.

Have you ever heard of the popular children author Roald Dahl, or the famous horror story writer Edgar Allan Poe? They are both unique and thrilling writers. Some of my personal favorites of Roald Dahl is The BFG and Matilda. You have probably heard of them. They are both inspiring children stories with excellent plots against evil. Edgar Allan Poe on the other hand, is a writer of dark menacing stories about tragedy or illness of mind. One of his greatest works that I have recently read was Tell Tale Heart. You may be wondering, “Well what do they have to do with each other?” or “What do they have in common?”

Edgar Allen Poe is a famous poet and writer who has published many famous works. Of all these works “A Tell-tale Heart” and “The Cask of Amontillado” are notorious for setting the standard in horror literature. These two short stories tell narratives of men who are driven mad and snap into extremely aggressive behaviors. The two men lure their victims to a dangerous state of complacency that could have easily aided in the rise of the phrase “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”. Although they both share this similarity they both handle and respond to their situations quite differently. Poe very easily writes in a way that makes the readers uncomfortable because they can appreciate the narrator’s perspective.

Shelley combined the mysterious, gloomy and cloudy circumstances, a Gothic element with Romantic elements of visual imaginations, colorful, lively landscape descriptions and music and poetry recitals. Mary indicated to the society that the people have to pay full attention to their acquire knowledge in terms of scientific innovations and their implications. The people’s knowledge should be used wisely to avoid the catastrophes. However, the search of knowledge has been arduous, wisely use of knowledge brings blessings, while mishandling of knowledge can be a curse which can lead to the destructions.

On the other hand, Frankenstein was able to obtain love much easier than the creature. Although it was easier for Victor, he shows his desire for love in a letter he wrote to his father; “My dear father, re-assure yourself. I love my cousin tenderly and sincerely. I never saw any woman who excited; as Elizabeth does, my warmest admiration and affection my future hopes and prospects are entirely bound up in the expectation of our union” (Shelley 108). Here Frankenstein’s love for his Elizabeth is displayed and characterizes his desire for love. In Victor’s youth he shows the desire towards Elizabeth and calls her his “more than sister” (Cantor 110). This shows another instant of non-neoclassicism. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and John Gardner’s Grendel have numerous similarities, despite being published one hundred and fifty years apart from each other. The monster, in Frankenstein, and the beast, in Grendel, are both named appropriately since their appearances are frightening and cause them to be isolated from society. They are similar in the sense that they each seek companionship to end their loneliness, and they both kill to relieve their pain.
