Do you remember reading a thrilling story that you could actually relate too? Numerous stories today tell the inspiring stories of people by many authors; however, I feel The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet both portray similar themes in the context of the story. For example, both show the importance of love, family, and fate in the context of the story. In the story Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is passionately in love with Juliet.
The prologue also is very important to have in a play as it establishes the main themes. Shakespeare gives away the ending in the prologue and highlights the key themes which are love, hate and death. In the prologue Shakespeare uses the quotation “The fearful passage of their death-marked love”. Shakespeare uses a metaphor in this quotation. By using “death-marked love” Shakespeare informs the audience that the protagonists love has been shadowed by death since the day Romeo was born, and Romeo was always at risk.
Pardoned or Punished? “Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace” (1.1.92). If everyone had listened to the Prince no one would have died. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence, Nurse, and Lord Capulet should all be punished for their crimes. Friar Lawrence should be punished for his actions.
In Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio states that “dreams are the children of an idle brain” after talking to Romeo about Queen Mab and how she manipulates people’s dreams based on their lifestyle. I agree with the statement because a dream is an imagination you have when you are asleep for your own sensation and are usually not possible. Dreams are made up based on the subconsciousness of the human mind. For example, Mercutio states that “Begot of nothing but vain fantasy” (I.iv.99). Mercutio is basically saying that dreams are fantasies and are based on the desires of the human mind and that they do not occur in real-life.
The Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, demonstrate that choosing acts of hatred over compassion can cause consequences that intervene with death, relationships and neighborhoods. From Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters who chose to respond to situations with resentment lead to the loss of other lives. During Aunt Alexandia’s missionary society meeting she is interrupted by her brother, Atticus Finch with the news of his client, Tom Robinson's death. Atticus delivers the devastating news,“They shot him (…)
Teen suicide is one of the most over looked problems The United States is dealing with today. According to a nationwide survey, 16% of high schoolers have seriously considered committing suicide, 13% of them formed a plan on how they would complete the task, and about 8% of those students followed through. The story Romeo and Juliet may seem like love story between two star crossed lovers, but in reality it was about two unstable teenagers dealing with mental disorders that contributed to the resolution of the story, them both taking their own lives. Most people believe that Romeo and Juliet committed suicide because they were destined to die, but on the contrary, Juliet really committed suicide, because she was going through major depression,
Similar to Romeo and Juliet, Rewrite The Stars commences with assessing how two lovers handle their relationships, and comes full circle as the two lovers realize they’re, “hands are tied” ( Efron and Zendaya 1). The realization that nothing can be done is found in the song and Romeo and Juliet and, which is also the reason Romeo and Juliet to take their lives. Additionally, Juliet and Zendaya’s persona are very similar in the sense that both are very cautious and careful of their love, contrary to the men. Moreover, the basis of Romeo and Juliet’s love is established on the foundation of destiny. Given the audience knows the future of Romeo and Juliet, the whole play is an example of dramatic irony, which adds more suspense to this plot.
Act 3 Summary: At the beginning of act 3, Benvolio and Mercutio are talking to each other in a public place. Out of nowhere Tybalt and others arrive, they start talking to Mercutio plus Benvolio. Romeo enters wanting peace towards Tybalt, who is angry that Romeo came to the Capulet’s party. Mercutio gets mad at the words being said by Tybalt, which makes both of them draw their swords.
There are many parallels that are apparent in Romeo and Juliet and West Side story. For instance, the way that both plays open is very similar. In Romeo and Juliet, the play opens up with a confrontation between servants of the Montagues and Capulets which develops into physical fighting until Prince Escalus intervenes and threatens to kill any of them if they disturb the peace again. This is similar in the opening scene of West Side Story when the Jets, acting as the Montegues, and the Sharks, acting as the Capulets in Romeo and Juliet, when a confrontation between them turns into a fight which Lieutenant Schrank intervenes and breaks the fight up and threatens to apprehend any of them that disturbs the peace of the neighborhood. Another similarity between the two plays is the recreation of the famous balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet where Romeo appears in front of Juliet’s balcony after the Capulet feast where they exchange their vows.
Classic literature has long been admired and idolized, the prose and poetry a far cry from that of today. The lack of expansion in the abridged version versus Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, leaves much to be desired as the experience of full version tells a more human tale to be drawn upon, hence the comparative worthlessness of the abridged version. Reading the abridged version, one cannot help but notice one misses out on appreciating Shakespeare’s fine craft and gift for writing, the knowledge imparted within the text is removed, and there is a sheer lack of depth offered by the shortened piece. Writings produced by Shakespeare are revered for their nuanced characters and plot; as well as the complex, high level writing; and the droplets of information imparted in
In Act 1 Scene 5, when Romeo & Juliet meet it helps the characters develop into something much more complex within their emotions and boundaries and also helps further develop the plot. In Lheurmann’s film, the camera movement was fast paced making the love in that scene much more hard to convey unlike Zeffirelli’s film. Lheurmann’s film was very swift in the way the camera was moving, consequently making it hard to convey the theme. He uses fast cuts, while they gaze at each other through the fish tank, to focus attention and give emphasis to their facial expressions when they see each other for the first time. These fast cuts affect the atmosphere for the audience and poorly portray the unconditional love that Romeo and Juliet have for
In my U.S. History class, my teacher has an image of The Mona Lisa because there some history behind the picture. For example, who drew The Mona Lisa? Well, it was Leonardo da Vinci. Also, this portrait is one of the most famous portrait during the Renaissance. Back then wealthy people, like kings; nobles; etc., were able to afford the portrait, but now most people can afford it.
The text’s To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is a story about a man who was accused of something he didn't do. And the drama Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a drama about two star-crossed lovers who can't be with each other due to family issues. Although one might think that these two stories don’t seem to be connected in any way, one might just have to take a deeper look. In the two texts To Kill A Mockingbird and Romeo and Juliet, the separation of groups between race and families demonstrated how inequality of one's race and judgment of one's choice of a partner can result in negative endings, revealing the need to accept one another regardless of race or background.
Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in year 1595. Disney made the animated film, Gnomeo and Juliet, in 2011. Gnomeo & Juliet is a computer-animated, comedic recreation of Shakespeares masterpiece. In sed movie, all of the human characters are replaced by lawn decorations. There are 3 major differences and 3 major similarities between the two.
Juliet once stated about love, “It is an honor that I dream not of,” obviously wanting nothing to do with it, she was unaware that very soon she will be in a very strong relationship with Romeo. When Juliet met Paris, she was civil towards him but she did not show the passion she proposed to Romeo after laying eyes on him. Throughout the story, Juliet’s love grew and grew for Romeo, she went from wanting to stay a virgin to giving “all of her” to Romeo. Juliet developed such a rich love for Romeo, so intense, she could not bear to live without him after he committed suicide, so she pierced her own heart with her lover’s knife. Juliet Capulet, a girl who had no desire for love eventually fell head over heels for Romeo, and her love so intense,
