Richardson that is titled Black Women’s Educational Alliance: Philadelphia Chapter sheds light upon a non-profit organization that focuses on expressed concerns about equality of opportunities for black women in all divisions of the education system. Richardson goes on to explain, that this alliance, which was founded in 1975, for both professional and intellectual purposes develops an expressive need for sustaining networking. As well as focusing on educational rights of African-American women, this alliance also focuses on issues such as: politics, women’s rights, career advancement, and job security. Richardson acknowledges the main mission of this alliance is to provide opportunities for and to bring together African American women, by achieving personal growth and growing professionally through aspects of support, recognition and leadership. During my research I found this source to be extremely helpful, un-challenging to comprehend and very informative.

The Black panther party founded in October of 1966 by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. The main purpose of this group was to fight white oppression after seeing many people suffer from police brutality. THey had chosen the name Black panthers because the black panther doesn’t strike first, “but if the aggressor strikes first, then he’ll attack.” the black panthers had a 10 point plan that had everything they wanted to change in society.
This gave the African Americans more of a voice in what happened in society, proving to the public what kind of potential influences they had.
While the NAACP participates in lobbying, their main political tactics have traditionally been grassroots organizing and litigation. Since 1913, when the NAACP began establishing branch offices (there are now over 2,000 units), the organization has based much of its success on local organizing efforts (“Oldest and Boldest”). In April 2016, they mobilized in Washington, D.C. in order to “protect voting rights, get big money out of politics, and demand an up or down vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee” (“Democracy Awakening 2016”).
The Reconstruction for black Americans was a time for a change, it provided the once enslaved people the freedom of movement (Schultz 2014). With this freedom came wonderful things, such as the right to obtain property, the benefit of more control over their family situations, and many were able to reunite with family members. Consequently, an uncounted amount of them left the plantation life they were accustomed to where they were able to join the forces of the yeoman and working-classes in some cases. The Freedman's Bureau, established in 1865, foresaw the need for schools to be established in the South so now receiving an education became possible for black Americans (Schultz 2014). In “ The Struggle Continues for Racial Equality in America” speech by Ginger Adams Otis, there’s a quote that explains how equality may never be achieved: “ Blacks also make forty-percent of the population in homeless shelters, although they account for thirteen-percent of the U.S population. They also have the highest rate of ‘severely cost-burdened renters’- those who pay at least half their income to rent, leaving little for continued education for themselves or their children.” Our country’s equality hasn’t changed from 1963, so equality doesn’t seem achievable. The quote proves the point that equality can’t be achievable because although the law wants equality in the United States, there are people who make it impossible. But, there are Americans with the hope that equality will be achieved, but there are people who don’t have the hope that equality will be achieved.
The Black Lives Matter was founded in 2013 by three African American women. It’s another social justice that has made national news for their cause. Black Lives Matter is just more than a social movement. It is an out cry for help, as a nation, as a whole. Black Lives Matter is a community.
One example of an organization that is a hip hop social activist is “Enough Is Enough: The Campaign for Corporate Responsibility in Entertainment” (Rose, 248). In her book, The Hip Hop Wars, Tricia Rose states, “Reverend Coates founded Enough Is Enough to respond to corporations that proliferate and profit from degrading depictions of black men and women in popular culture” (Rose, 249). Ultimately, his motivation for forming this organization is to stop the spreading of inaccurate information or ideas of African Americans (Rose, 249). According to Rose, “the campaign stages weekly protests at local media outlets and corporations that sponsor such images” (Rose, 249). By doing this, this group is making these people notice the problem.
The first three chapters of the reading, The Struggle for Black Equality, Harvard Sitkoff runs through the civil rights movement in the 20th century; outlining the adversities facing black people, the resistance to black equality, hindrances to the already progress and the achievements made in the journey for civil rights. John Hope Franklin, in the foreword, dwells on the impact of the time between 1954 and 1992 and the impact it had on American Society, how fight for equality is far from easy and patience is required in the fight to "eliminate the road blocks that prevent the realization of the ideal of equality". In the preface, Sitkoff is clear that that history does not speak for themselves and attempt to detail any particular will be influenced by the author 's personal beliefs. Sitkoff, who associated and identified with the movement, believed "that the struggle was confronting the United States with an issue that had undermined the nation 's democratic institutions". Imagine being discriminated against just because of the skin color you were born with. In addition to promoting more power for the people of color in society these strong people were pushing for equality among everyone. Often times today the Black Power movement is misjudged or looked down upon, but if you look at what they really stood for it was not black superiority

The purpose of this movement was in response to a program advocated by Booker T. Washington. His ideas acknowledged the current policies geared towards blacks in order to make life as easy as possible within that framework. This movement tried to challenge and then dominate the accommodationist ideas of Washington. The group often used its Declaration of Principles, a list of their demands and goals, to lead the movement.
