In the eyes of a young boy, it is easy to hold their own father on such a high and honorable pedestal; to them, it is inconceivable that their father could be anything but that strong and courageous figure. Their relationship had little things that Elie would do for his father and his father doing the same for him,compassion, and fright that made them become closer to each other. In such a cruel place such as the one they were in, it is deemed to be impossible. Even though Elie’s connection to God was strong, it was still broken. Religion is something that many people have consistently believed in and turned to in times of need and support. Some of these people rely on their faith more than their own family and friends. Their religion is their entire life and they can’t imagine their lives without it. Imagine a scenario that’s so terrible that God won’t take you out of it. These people will wonder where God is and pray for Him to come. After such a long time without help, these people will start to question their faith and eventually, they will rebel against it. It is a common assumption among numerous people in the world that the Holocaust never existed. In fact, almost fifty percent of the world population never even heard of the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel helped people around the world learn about the Holocaust through his book “Night.” He wanted people to see the bravery, courage, and guilt of the Jews through his book. “Night” shows the horrific and malicious acts in the German concentration camps during the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel successfully created a clever plot consisting of dialogue, introspection and dynamic characters to make his story realistic and compelling. Elie WIesel changed the protagonist Eliezer, an observant Jewish youngster, that strived to delve deeper into the mythical traditions of his religion, changed to a person that questions God’s greatness, a disloyal son and a person that only seeks personal gain.

“I realized that he did not want to see what they were going to do to me. He did not want to see the burning of his only son”(42). When Eliezer arrives at Auschwitz, the separation of his family puts an emotional toll on his father since he realizes that only him and Eliezer are still alive. This will be a catalyst to their relationship becoming stronger as they endure more together. Eli's life was changed drastically in a matter of a couple hours. He saw and went through a lot causing him to lose his religious faith. He isn’t the only one who lost his belief. Others like his father began to lose his faith and sense of hope.

I wanted to return to Sighet to describe to you my death so that you might ready yourselves while there is still time...I wanted to come back to warn you. In Night, Wiesel has times where the Jews are very optimistic of situations they 're in, even though they shouldn’t be, and the reason for most of their optimism comes from their belief in a god, which is a curse and a blessing.

World War II ruined the lives of many people all across the world, and each person’s experience affected them in different ways. Both characters lost something, but the loss that Elie experiences is more than anything that a student reading the book could comprehend. The the events in the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel in comparison to Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki are considerably more tragic, but each event had massive effects on the lives of those affected.
