This was a bad decision because it caused inflation. Another economic reason why the Roman Republic failed was because of taxes. The poor made up a large percentage of the Roman population. The government became oppressive and started to force everything on the people. Roman leaders came up with the forced labor which made peasants work on fields, roads, and bridges.

The First Triumvirate was formed in the middle of Rome’s Civil War to combat Sulla’s overgrowing power. “In 88 BCE, Sulla, one of Marius’ officers, revealed the danger at the heart of the new power politics by raising an army and marching on Rome. He forced the Senate to legitimize his command, campaigned successfully in Asia Minor, retook Rome, assumed dictatorial powers, and executed Romans.” (Frankforter and Spellman). Sulla then restored the Senate to its original dominance, however the Senate wasn’t able to defend the empire with public officials who were bound by the traditions of the Republic’s constitution.
Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus, better known as the ‘Gracchi Brothers’ were a pair of tribunes descending from the plebs from the 2nd century BCE who sought to introduce land reforms and other legislations that aligned with their populist views/ideas. It can be said that the career of the two brothers was marked by murder, riots and outright manipulation of the power they were granted which completely altered the state of Roman politics- aiding in the breakdown of the Roman Republic. The legislation they sought to pass essentially redistributed major aristocratic land ownership among the commoners such as the urban poor and veterans. After achieving little success during the early stages of the reforms, both were assassinated by enemy parties.

The Triumvirate should be considered the best Triumvirate in history because they were amazing military leaders, expanded the empire, and beat their political competitors. From this unrest arose the second triumvirate. This triumvirate was composed of Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian. The second triumvirate lasted for about one decade after the murder of Caesar.

There were multiple pressures that lead to the downfall of Rome including ambitious generals, changing politics, client armies, and a desolate Senate desperate to remain prominent. In Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, the person most responsible for the death of Julius Caesar is Cassius, he started the conspiracy and developed the plan of how to manipulate and convince Brutus to kill Caesar and lead Rome. While it may look like Brutus was the one responsible for his death, it was Cassius who made him think that he needed to that by slipping fake letters into his room. Cassius began the rebellion against Caesar, and then developed a plan to make Brutus think he need to kill Caesar and become the leader, and finally as well as the other conspirators, Cassius contributed to stabbing Caesar. TS 1: in the beginning of the story we are introduced to the conspirators, who are lead by Cassius and we discover that they are determined to destroy Caesar. In the beginning of the play Cassius is trying to convince Brutus that there is nothing special about Caesar, he is “Like a Colossus, and [they] petty men Walk under his huge legs”(I, II, 137).
My friend Brutus, We have known each other for many years, and as your friend, I feel as though I have a duty to Rome to contact you about the issue at hand. We should not kill Caesar. Caesar has made many mistakes by making his law then decided to break it, gave Gaul's places in the senate-house, and even went against the state by marching on Rome. Though Cassius has convinced you to kill Caesar, I plead with you to reconsider. Killing Caesar is not what the people want, but is what the conspirators are tricking you into thinking.
Till then, Caesar had achieved fair amount of political success but he still wasn’t much popular among his peers. In order to fulfill his dream of developing Rome, Caesar needed more political success through alliances. He found the best two alliances that would take him further to the path of success. He first aligned with the Roman General Pompey then he allied with a powerful Roman politician Crassus. Further, Caesar’s alliance with Pompey was strengthened with the marriage of Caesar’s only daughter Julia with Pompey.
